factories and companies that takes up a lot of space are usually at the edge of the Singapore. Thats why you dont see any high rise building around it. Singapore land is small but proper planning by gov allows that to allocate the % of land for different purpose.

I'm studying agriculture too but in Switzerland. I like this kind of modern production that wastes a minimum of resources. In Europe we have a problem. Too many consumers think that big production is bad for animals. But with such a large world population, we should be more concerned about resources. I even worked on a free range and organic production. It's a waste of resources, an increased risk of outside infections and big problems with excrement management. The manure is piled directly on the fields and the soil is permanently polluted. This is not good for the planet.

How much does an egg retail for in Singapore? With a high population density and if the selling prices are high, then it makes sense for them to invest big capital in automation. I wonder if they process the chicken manure to make fertilizers as a supplementary income. I wonder if they will switch to biodegradable packaging. 50,000 egg cartons per day is a lot of plastic ending up in the landfills. And what are they going to do if their neighbours start producing organic, free-range chicken eggs for the same price, packed in bio-degradeable cartons?

Tired AF you do realize that free range chicken eggs are better than cooped up chickens ?? Also a chicken that is cooped up 24 / 7 is less healthy than free range chicken .. But the company could use the same technology they used to feed the chicken , the conveyer belt system to actual force the chicken to “excercise” ... But since the end result is eggs not the chickens well-being ... then of course there is not value for them .. Like you say it does not make economical sense to actually care for a living being that is FOOD for us humans ... This heartless attitude of “money sense” will spread to how we view the old and decrepit as they have no More value .. i Hope I can slowly wean off meat .. slowly and surely ... Wish me luck guys ...
@kareenkalani53835 жыл бұрын
Zulkifli Mohd do you also realise that free range chicken eggs cost far more and need way more land, which btw Singapore does not have? Grow up. This world is a competitive economy. How tf do you expect to make a profit doing it your way? Even if you forced the chicken to excercise it may not want to. The chickens in this farm are at least clean and well fed. The chickens don’t even care anyway, I highly doubt they have the mental capability to enjoy being free range compared to being raised in coops. Lord save me from uneducated people like you

Kareen Kalani Hmmmm maybe you need you ask your lord to give a bit of empathy ??? First you say , cannot make a profit ... Then you say these chickens don’t care ...then you say these chicken don’t have the “mental capacity” to enjoy being free .. Tell me do you know that chickens DO PROCREATE? Do you know there are WILD CHICKENS who raise their children ?? So basically NATURE have proven you wrong but you choose to turn a blind eye. What do you think those EGGS that you eat? Your idea of profit is for the human being not for the chicken ... And the “world” is a “competitive economy “ because YOU view it that way thru your $$$$ lenses .. These chicken have been raised in a gram and never knowing freedom ... We already torture them and eat their children .. then when they can’t lay any more eggs .. We slaughter them ... The sciences behind free range animals and the food they produce is so much better than cooped up animals . You PAY more for organic vegetables You pay more for organic meat And you pay more for organic eggs .. Step 2: make sure that they have to stick their head through cold metal bars to eat. Step 3: if a chicken is being bullied, don't help it. Don't have any concern of suffering animals. Step 4: make sure they only have just enough food to survive and lay eggs. Step 5: make sure your birds never see sunlight. Its bad for them you know. If you follow these directions you will become a succesful poultry farmer. Oh, wait did I say succesful? I meant cruel, Inhumane, and selfish.

Funny how they don't show the part where new born male chicks are sent to the mincer. With the positive mood music in the background, what does the consumer has to suspect of the grave animal rights abuses.

Good to know no antibiotics, here in the United States chickens are given antibiotics heavily.....otherwise it is considered "organic" While you guys naturally consume organic every day in every form.
@pochonjulien15015 жыл бұрын
Organic is not only about antibiotic consumption or not... In Switzerland, the organic production can use antibiotics. But organic or not it is very restrictive, the veterinary says what, when and how much... Here they don't need antibiotics because the barns are closed and they be careful with hygien. Those hens are very healthy. In Europe, with smaller production or worst like free range production, it's difficult to stay out of sickness.

I actually hope to raise my own chickens someday, though at a much smaller scale for my own family. Not that I don't like eggs from these factory places, but It's an experience I feel like I would enjoy, despite the hard work. I don't know, I feel like it would be more fulfilling to raise my own chickens and get eggs that way rather than just grabbing them in a carton.

EGG IS ESSENTIAL AND MUST. SINGAPRE CANNOT DEPEND TOTALLY ON IMPORTS. THAT MUCH SURE. THERE IS ALSO ONE DAIRY FARM FOR MILK. IF ANY OUTBREAK AND SUPPLIES GET CUT DUE TO CARONA TYPE EMERGENCIES- THESE COME TO RESCUE. SO IT IS A MUST SINCE MILK AND EGG ARE PERISHABLE. IT IS VERY DIFFFICUT TO MAINTAIN DUE TO HIGH COST PREVAILING IN SINGAPORE. STILL NO CHOICE
