My grandfather was against the elective system when it was first introduced in the Stoney nation (Morley) he prophesied what’s happening now Greed is the number one cause of what we are going through now you have to be a big family of voters in order to get a house

Creator, pls help n send honest hard working ppl to to govern this reserve. Leaders that hv compassion n empathy.
@johnmurray38886 ай бұрын
Compassion and empathy? Fat chance! Compassion and empathy are the watchwords of socialist governments. Miracles do happen; if you searched really, really hard for long enough you might find a band council member somewhere who is honest and hard working, but you'd have a better chance of finding a protestant in the Vatican than a First Nations chief who believes in socialism!

I agree there needs to be more accountability on First Nations by the leaders. I am from a Rez in Ontario. People can do some of the repairs themselves like get some paint, some boards to repair the water logged floor and buy new windows why wait for the band to help? I used to paint and do some minor repairs on our old house on the Rez without help from the band. JMO

The Shepard energy power plant is largest in Alberta. Oil and gas exploration companies extracting unrenewable natural resources out of the ground here in Alberta is supplying 83% of all petroleum products consumed in Canada. That is true while both politicians and producers of energy here in Alberta say they are worried that power outages are going to happen more often to everyone living in Alberta. How are we all in Alberta going to avoid that when people living on reserves have little to no resources while being stonewalled like that when hoping to help find solutions to that problem too. For example last year when an alert was broadcasted to all homes asking everyone to reduce their power usage to avoid seeing some people have to go without power while it was very very cold. Only some of us could reduce our power usage. Others like people living on Stony nation were already always down to their bare minimum usage of power. Something is very wrong with what was supposed to be uniformity when it comes to how the law is administered across Canada. What makes Indigenous people feel angry most is how a lot of our young people are being poisoned by far less than ideal solutions being offered to them like for example after every time someone has started to suffer from frostbite again while trying to travel and then stay elsewhere for a month or so to recieve medical services like dental care taking so many more viists in a school of dentistry or whatever followed by then being told they only have a mental health problem after being asked to fill in only a survey in medical offices while only not having an address of their own at the time. Like when having to stay in a room at the "Women Building Futures" facility or whatever.

I don't understand why renos aren't completed by the home owners? Why do u have to rely on the band office to change a window, fix a door jam etc? Just wondering.
@karmin64216 ай бұрын
There should be rules that if you break it, you fix it like who made the holds in the wall. The door looks as if it was kick in it your home, fix it up.

Because the reservation system has trained its people to sit and wait for housing/ money/ food/ transportation to be handed out to them. There's no training or education for the youth to go out and earn for themselves. So they sit and wait with their hands out as well. It's always up to someone else to do.

The band leaders seem to be self serving. The fact that the natives didn’t like the transparency law the conservatives were imposing shows. When you do these things to your elders and young and wonder why the drugs rampant you can look to the leaders of all bands. You need to answer to everyone that includes Canada as a whole, you get taxes payers money and monies you receive should be accounted for. Sad that Pauline and her husband can’t be healthy on her homeland. I’m discussed by the way leader treat their elders. The money they give to themselves is evident and it’s sick how they flaunt it to non natives with gifts of coats and headdresses. You don’t like the government till it does what you want them to do. Comply with our way so we can screw our people and keep the money to ourselves. You ask for housing money and it’s given but nothing is done. Reminds me of Africa or Haiti. Keep the people in poverty and have no accountability and blame the white man.

Tax payers money?
@TLAR246 ай бұрын
@@Charmz7019yes tax payers money. Not sure if you got the news the other day where Freeland want to pledge 1.5 million to the indigenous. APTN didn’t like that I shared the clip with you and deleted my last comment. But my comment stands. Transparency and accountability is what anyone would want. They even ask for it in the doc here. As a matter a fact the Fraser Institute actually states that the Canadian taxpayers are quite generous to the indigenous people just a quote. from where is it do you think they get their money from, their butts? Or out of the pockets of ministers? Please.
@brendaboomer6 ай бұрын
@@TLAR24 you should get the real story and not the tall tales coming from the Canadian education system from which you learned, school books are nothing but a bunch of lies. There is no Canadian taxpayers dollars being paid to nations, this is a trust for the land that was stolen. Should the government do more? Yes, Should the Bands do more for their people? Yes. This I know is fact, as I am Indigenous and learned my history, not from books, but from actual experience. The land that was lost to GREED of white colonizers, the lives of our ancestors that were lost due to Residential Schools, the Families broken because of the Sixties Scoop. Yes Band Councils & Chiefs are as corrupt as the greedy white colonizers were, but who do you think trained them? Greedy corrupt white colonizers that's who. I wish all band members would take a stand and say enough is enough, lied and cheated by a church & government, and now our own people? Very sad.
