Let's see what all the fuss is about at the world famous British Museum here in London. A number of artefacts have a lot of controversy around them, due to the reason of how and why Britain has ownership of these items. Two of the most debated are the Rosetta Stone and Hoa Hakananai'a... both taken or traded to gain ownership and transported here to London. Where do you think these items should really live?
Thanks for watching, let me know you enjoyed it with subscribing and also give it a thumbs up 👍🏻 💕💌

Whether the artifacts were questionably obtain or gifted, I see no problem with them being displayed in a museum. Most people will never get chance to visit the country of origin from where they came so being displayed in a museum gives so many more people the opportunity to see these amazing objects in person. So don’t feel bad about showing it. I really liked it!

I visited the British museum on a school trip in 2015. It is one of my most prominent memories. I was absolutely baffled that you get to explore all of that for free (with exeptions). Still find it incredible that quite a few places in London are free. Here in Czechia you'd never heard of that, in reality most of the bigger museums are really expensive. A family trip to our national museum is a hefty price indeed. As a lover of art and wandering around, it would be my dream to just spend most of the day in the British museum. I'd be there every month. It's another reason why I love London so much. A lot of Londoners don't realize the awesome perks they have. Of course, every place has its ups and downs. My memory might be failing me here, but I feel like back then the Rosetta stone was just casually in the middle of some free access exhibition, but I could be wrong. I did love all of the Rosetta stone themed merch they had, I remember a rubber mini version of the stone in the gift shop in the main court area. If anyone is interested, there's some videos walking around the British museum, highly reccomend if you wanna take a look around yourself in more detail. Hannah, thank you for another lovely vlog, my week has turned into simply counting down the days until your new upload. I'd love more free things to do in London, even some more obscure, themed places. As long as you're narrating, I'll watch :) (this might be controversial, and I do not condone stealing from other countries, but I do think that there's no harm in people all around the world being able to admire a certain aspect of a different culture. The way it was done was not okay, but I'd love to be able to see a Hoa Hakananai up close, and other people appreciate the opportunity as well)

I love the idea of more museum vlogs, especially the V&A which I've never been able to visit! You mentioned at one point, and I remember being quite shocked when I visited the British Museum, just how physically close people can get to the artifacts. Lots of people touching stuff, and it made me so uncomfortable! Combined with the idea that many of these items should probably be returned to their country of origin... it's definitely a lot to think about when you go visit. Incredible to see in person, though. If anyone is interested in learning the story of the Parthenon sculptures, look up "Elgin marbles"---the debate over them has raged for over 200 years!!

To think I was at the British Museum just two weeks before you did this vlog. It is very overwhelming in there and it was nice to see some of the things I missed that you covered. I did not see the paid exhibition so that was nice to watch. I also visited for the first time in all my journey's to London, the National Gallery, but did not stay too long. So, would be nice if you did a vlog there as you mentioned. Just want to say a week without seeing Hannah is an incomplete one. Great! You did it! Well done! This was not a shabby start. Being 20 minutes out from Manhattan, NYC, we've got, bordering Central Park, back to back, the Museum of Natural History the counter of your British Museum. On the opposite side of Central Park, on Fifth Avenue (83? Street), is the Metropolitan Museum with its landscapes, portraits, sculptures, ceramics.

Excellent video Hannah, I think you've managed to convey how huge and amazing the British Museum is! We're very fortunate that it's free to get in. In France you pay to go into art galleries, but churches are free. I've never understood why, in the UK our museums and art galleries are free but you pay about £25 to go into St Paul's cathedral and Westminster Abbey. It's definitely worth spending only a couple of hours in the British Museum at a time, otherwise you get overwhelm (as you found out) and coming back several times if you can. I haven't been there, I realised, since 2014 so I think it's about time I paid another visit. Also, you don't normally have to pay to see the Rosetta Stone, so I assume it was moved into a special Egyptian exhibition?

Thanks for the little touristy trip through the museum! I hit it up every time I'm in London. It really is massive and you need wayyy more time than you think to properly make a decent dent in it. I'm so happy you wandered to the Clocks and Watches section, as it's my favorite of them all. The way humans have managed to parse out and monitor the passing of time has always fascinated me, and some of the clocks are simply gorgeous in and of themselves. As the Museum being controversial, I think that's fair for most part. If there is a legitimate claim for a culture or country to want a piece back, I feel that's just but only if they can prove a safe and secure home for the item(s) where anyone can visit - same as British Museum. Also, it feels like if we consider the ravages of theft and looting and lack of archiving back when much of these items were "discovered", I'm happier knowing the BM has them in a safe place we can all appreciate them, rather than they were left as is to be stripped for parts or tossed as rubbish and lost to time.

YES!! Love this and hope it does become a series!! Also, on the topic at hand, I'd love to see the U.K. (and the U.S.) turn ownership back over to the Egyptian government but have a "permanent on-loan" arrangement. This would allow Egypt to receive some proceeds from any revenue generated by their display but not risk moving the items and putting them at risk to be lost, stolen, or broken! Just one American's opinion. P.S. - I LOVE the British Museum!!

Oh Hannah, I ❤ this vlog! What an incredible building! I would love you to vlog more museums. As for stealing things, yes it was wrong, but on the other hand they were preserved in good condition eg the Elgin Marbles, whereas in Greece they are ruined. But apparently will be returned as George Osborne is now Chairman of the Museum. Alot of British Treasures are in America, so every museum has things from all over the world. But I do agree, I saw the Tutankhamun exhibition and spiritually speaking it's not right to tamper with a person's grave however many Treasures are buried with him or her. But I do find it all fascinating!

Great job! You literally followed my footsteps when I was there last Spring. At that time, the Rosetta Stone was in a case just as you entered the building. I understand your feelings about should those objects be taken away and put on exhibit. It's a hard choice. But, because they are in that beautiful building, many things have been discovered by people studying them in a foreign land. The Rosetta Stone is a prime example. The building itself is so amazing. Just watched a documentary about how the white, circular center and ceiling were built. Amazing! This building and its contents are certainly something to see. Now, how about a visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum? Thanks for bringing back memories of a great visit!

Loved this, Hannah! So much free stuff in London; would love to see a whole series of visits to the various gems we have here. We’re spoilt for choice. 👏
