At the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe tie-in games featuring Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk were common. However over the years new superhero movie tie-in games have become increasingly uncommon. Surrounding the release of the first Avengers film, THQ began development on an Avengers game written by Brian Michael Bendis, following the plot of Secret Invasion that would be cancelled.
