@@maximoo79 yeah the only thing I didn’t like about London when I went over there is it takes you a day or so to get used to looking the right way when you go to cross the street because the cars are on the wrong side And don’t get me wrong. I love your country, but I say it’s the wrong side because at least when I was there, they literally had to spray paint on the sidewalk look this way so you don’t get hit by a car maybe that’s an indication. somebody told me once and I don’t know if it’s true or not that in order to switch it would require a huge expense on people that make cars and other I guess infrastructure changes either to actual infrastructure or the production facilities that it just isn’t worth it and I’m thinking that’s kind of bullshit but who knows

There are 97 cathedrals of varying denominations in the UK , many on par with Westminster Abbey and Saint Pauls . As impressive as London is , i think you would be blown away by what the rest of the country has to offer . From the 15 national parks with breathtaking scenery , the medieval castles just about everywhere , the many ancient and historic cities / towns and villages to the many Stately homes of the aristocracy open to the public . The rail network reaches most parts of the country but hiring a car allows more convenient access .

I don’t know if they do that today. I was able to see the Tower of London from afar, but never had time to do the tour. Spent many days attending plays in the theater district. I have to say it was an experience I will never forget. I even went to a McDonalds, which was standing room only, no seats in the place. A very odd experience at the time. I’m enjoying these videos, as they are taking me back to my youth, and allowing me a glimpse of how London has changed, yet because of their love of history and architecture, it hasn’t changed too much. My great-grandmother on my mom's side married a cousin of the Rockefellers in Manhattan, so I thought that was always the coolest family connection I had, but then I learned recently that her mother's line is filled with royalty, making it easy to trace the lineage because they keep such good records. The most recent king direct descendant of mine turns out to be Edward I. Before him for my direct line is (most recent first) Henry III, John, Henry II, Empress Matilda, Henry I, William the Conqueror, and then six Dukes of Normandy. Anyway, it's both cool and I'm now seeing there is definitely some dark history in there, besides the fact I could trace seven different lines back to William the Conqueror (four of the other six include Henry I, but none of those four have a king more recent than him). What can I say about royal people and keeping it within royalty...sigh, but also it's an impressive family connection. PS: I am not saying I'm royalty, those connections all died out in the 1600-1700s apparently. My grandmother married the son of Irish immigrants and they lived fairly poor, so she was far removed from anything royal or Rockefeller.
@mustangsallie9 күн бұрын
Yes most of my lines go back to England. I think Adam would be more interested in the city’s history and architecture if he traced his roots because I’m sure he has some there, as well as he likes the movie connections. I have many Dukes and Earls in lines as well as going up to the Plantagenets. If you know history, you know who they are. Some are entombed at The Abbey that Adam barely mentioned. He thinks of movies when he thinks of London and I think history and my people when I think of London.
@JohnColie1439 күн бұрын
@@mustangsallie I'm just learning about everything now, taking it slow once I fast forwarded to the end of lines and found the kings. I was just skipping over Barons, Earls, Dutchesses, etc., so now I'm going back and looking up everyone. I didn't know William the Conqueror was mentioned in this video when I commented. Also, I remember seeing the name Boleyn I believe, so I have to find that now. I know it wasn't a Queen.
@mustangsallie9 күн бұрын
@@JohnColie143 basically, Barons, Earls and Dukes are other children or relatives of the royal line. Only one child will go on to be King ( or Queen now). So it does help to research them. Adam does talk about some history and he stays on Ann Boleyn for a bit. But you can definitely tell that if there are no movie ties, he’s really not interested. I have over 18,000 in my tree on Ancestry. All loaded and documented by me one by one. I’ve been researching since about 1993 or so. Yes while everyone was playing video games or gathering up gobs and gobs of friends on social media, I was researching my tree. While some of my lines trace back to Germany, Denmark and such, the majority of my lines go back to England, Scotland and Ireland. My surname I can go back to “Simon, at Hole or Pool” in England in 1332. He was what we know as a forest ranger. There are even remnants of his cabin in Ashdown Forest in Maresfield. So this ancestor from this line was taking care of the Kings forest while another ancestor from another line was the King. So yea years and years of researching and so many more ancestors still to find. You will learn that there isn’t an end. You will never finish, just more to find!
@JohnColie1439 күн бұрын
@@mustangsallie I always had the habit of pausing videos on signs I want to read, so the quick showing never bothers me unless the sign doesn't get fully into focus. It's funny, I went to my great-grandparents on a site and seven of them were basically dead-ends, or ended shortly after them. Even the Rockefeller line dies off quickly for my research because it wasn't THE big guy, it is a cousin, so by now the living ones are distant cousins to me. Anyway, my great-grandmother (my mom's mom) was the eighth one I looked at and all of the work was already done by a genealogy society that traces royalty. My great-grandmother is where they stopped on my line, so I had to look her up because my grandmother wasn't linked to that tree yet. I guess they were getting too far away from royalty to keep going 😅

It's very good to get the working class blood. That's why royals occasionally marry commoners. Interesting fact. I understand that the original Mind The Gap announcement recording was a man’s voice. When he passed away his wife used to go and sit down in the tube to listen to his voice.

I saw that they continued to use his recording at Embankment and his widow would go there to hear his voice.

They Presented her with a phone that had all of his takes on a recording, so all she had to do was pick up the phone & listen

love these London videos Mr Woo. Glad you're enjoying your time in my neck of the woods. Perhaps look out a bit further into London like Greenwich Maritime museum/Cutty Sark, or a 1.5hr train to Portsmouth, home of the Navy to see the museums down there. About 1.5hr too on the train direct from Waterloo Station for the Titanic museum in Southampton, some real cool stuff there. The building is an old police station, so not as fancy as your Pigeon Forge museum. Henry VIII's Hampton Court Palace is totally worth a visit and have 50% off tickets at the moment, that won't take long on the London Overground system.
