Very nice. I study under Kru Paulo and I was happy to hear the full episode finally came out when he told us in class yesterday. I think it set a good tone, for the first installment, and the message is very clear. Now, I'm looking forward to the next episode. :)

Actually, keeping my mind on your comment, I gotta state, that I find, that slowing down speed of training allows one better to correct what needs to be corrected and more importantly, to find out oneself, what needs to be corrected, as trainers (allso in Thailand) seldom are able to explain or make one to see this clearly.

@fuckinghostile82 I am happy that this video set a good tone and you understand the message. Paulo is one of the first muay thai guys I met when I came back to Los Angeles. his character Paco in Bloodsport made interested in muay thai as well as people all over the world and I am very grateful he took time out of his day to let me interview him.

Art and training is not for training hard only, it is about training to correct what is in need of correcting, not training to stay wrong. Perception does not come by sher training/repeating mistakes. So far no one outside Thailand has percieved what it is all about!

And no, we're NOT represented very well. It's the business model. They seem to teach kickboxing, and then add in leg kicks and knees, and maybe elbows. Nobody gets hurt but it's slow. I was originally taught (in the 90's) by a Thai trained guy, and we trained with Thais. What I'm seeing now is kickboxing and MMA with a Monkol. Totally different. It's Thai Boxing, not Muay Thai. Not to say they can't fight. The guy I train under now is totally new school, and he'd beat the brakes off of me....I think they're better boxers than Thais in general, but Idunno, "Thainess" suffers. It's just different. It's very K1, as opposed to "Full Thai Rules".

Samathi is the most important aspect in muay thai, or rather, one needs this above all, without it, all else becomes useless. Samathi is mindfullness, but like a bodily induced mindfullness, a mindfullness that evolves out of consiousness with body and thereby giving birth to the mind. Without body, no consiousness of mind can exist and the buildup is in that order. But still mind is controlling body... It is like the ever evolving story of the hen and the egg, that never finishes...

I would not want to see that. I can't even imagine Buakaw without kicking. The opponents game plan would be to "Jon Fitch" him on the ground, the whole fight. As long as his opponent stays grounded, he can't even use his kicks without the danger of hitting his opponents head. Notice how more MMA fighters train mostly on ground work and less on striking. Most MMA guys have nothing close to offer than the American Muay thai fighters you see in the Vid.
@TheTwsa

I agree, but how are they to to develop any abilities at all, when the training is without understanding for what they are dooing? They do not see the real playfull game going on. For all outside Thailand, fighting muay thai is about sublime ability to win a fight, but they do not see the interaction between the 2 opponents, the way they teach each other lessons and show respect and if disrespectfull, getting punished severly for that.

The talent is here in America, the support is what hinders the sport here. It's hard to find legit Muay Thai gyms where that talent can even be honed much more. Muay thai is from thailand as BJJ is from brazil, until there's more reputable Muay Thai gyms in the US, they're still going to label the US as weak when it comes to muay thai. It might piss us off but its true. That doesn't translate to a few gifted individuals who will be kicking Thai butts in the ring though. Support Muay Thai USA.

Serious westerners, there are plenty of them, very serious, but they still do not get into the selftransendencemode of awareness. Neither do they know about Samathi. By not looking and wanting to get to know the problem, we seperate ourselves from ever learning the feel, flow of movement, etc. thais master and what makes the diff. between mastering and tumbling around the action in the ring.

very interesting words about the americans. I'm still trying to fathom why mma is more popular and the fighters get more money. I think the cage is the reason. Cages appeal to american's. It looks more dramatic and hbo like. Personally, I would have thought knees, elbows, and neck kicks were dramatic enough. But like the guy in the video said, the average american won't get past the name: Muay Thai or the music/wai kru. But who wants those kind of supporters anyway?

Just to make you come down a bit, Ive seen countless foreingers train in Thailand, and NON has ever got a clue what they really are dooing!

Allso, nobody outside Thailand is affected by the real dangerous muay thai version, that thais face, you guys do not hurt turists, and when bringing that overseas, muay thai becomes nothing more than a sport instead of beeing a potential very serious fighting/war-game!

That makes sense, but it is logic. Feel vs. headlessly dooing more of what is not 100% right is not gonna get one very far, it will maybe make one better (at dooing what is not really 100%), but so as far as getting in touch with the essence of what one does and developing feel for that, it does not get anyone anywhere dooing more of what is without pulse and heart (of knowing what one really trains). Try tjeck out page 3xw rooniegreentv, carstenblog, no. 3 from top down and see a perspective.

Thais use the body and the weight and strength of the body, end of story! Nonthais use musclestrength and so using, they uncoordinate the organisation and ultimate utilizationing of the body and disrupt the ability of using the body best possible. By using other than gravity of body unselfconsiously and dynamically (as thais does) one fragmentate body utilizationing, gets exhausted, confused, overwon by the mind of another who know how to control the mind etc. Samathi is an overlooked aspect!

But americans still need to learn Samathi, mindfull mindfullness..., rythme, contious flow and how to save energy so to generate the ability to accellerate the tempo of the fights, that is seen in thai/thai fights. Non-thais fights decline in speed and grows in desperate actions as the fight progresses, thais accelerate in speed and moves because... they know, unselfconsiously/subconsiously, how to keep it down... Go to carstenblog, ronniegreentv(dot)com for more/free training evaluation.

first off there has been fights against Thais in the USA since the late 70s mainly in Cali now there were some rules differences but still and several Americans that fought well ill name two Benny Urquidez and Peter Cunningham who also NEVER LOST to ANY thai including the legend Sakad lol you idiots need to learn your Kickboxing History and also to my knowledge Kevin Ross was not a World Champion any tournament style one time only thing doesn't really count lol although I don't see why he doesn't do like 90% of the WC you see pop up videos now days that were champions of organizations that either no longer exist or never did lmao

So Joe S. thinks americans now are better?! I suggest he go see from ethai(dot)com, Songchai no. 12, vcd, 8 USD. There he will see, from long time ago, some never heard about names, way better european and american fighters than is currently on the top, allso way better than Dekkers. Really!
