Parkour is the perfect sandbox for the Atlas team to experiment with new behaviors. Through jumps, balance beams, and vaults, we push Atlas to its limits to discover the next generation of mobility, perception, and athletic intelligence. Read more: bit.ly/3ss1lTi

I read through the entire document/report, and it's very interesting to see the ways Atlas has improved over time, but the most shocking thing, for me, was the realization that Atlas is only 5ft tall! In the videos, he looked way bigger than he actually is, so that was quite surprising for me. I hope you keep improving upon the best machines I've ever seen, whether it be humanoid, quadrupedal or crane-like which is Stretch, I can't seriously explain my love for this company in words.

Wow! It is one thing to see this movie on the screen as a Science Fiction entertainment. Although it is amazing to V think we are at the " entrance" of a new Era... that Robots will be part of our every day Life... Due to the advancement of our times, an let the public know, we are in a new Era of seeing the Results, of Advanced Tecnology and sharing with the Public...to accept new awareness of changes of the Times...thanks to the men of Science...

jkkj It is only show for ignorants; all what they have are stolen topics from amateurs and from my website... This Company is fuck up by their own corruption and greedy owners... Same problem at NASA, all they have are stolen projects and they make waste time... their robotic projects failed because they stole from others and cheated their own Country and Institutions... because what you see is something new; you may think is advanced but it is not... it is just bad quality and copied from Japanese amateurs who did acrobatics years before them... and if you measure the damage they have done to the U.S.A economy it is Trillions of dollars in loses every year because of those engineers cheating... The Company ended now owned by South Korea... that is the way they cover up their corruption...

@@maulcs You talk like a loser politician not like a technician... or like the owner of that Company who also likes to play the intellectual when he is not (all he has are stolen topics and that is one of the reasons they needed to sell the company many times). Better explain me your budgets; that is the best business you can do when you talk to me... because I have no time for stupidities... In other words: The reason they needed to sell the Company many times is because of administering by stealing the topics on my website... even I warned to ask Companies the Manager of Google ended in jail because of cheating everybody. I told DARPA to make the project... and they copied from my website and Japanese amateurs... irresponsible people and makes waste time... same problem at NASA; engineers just dont get it what is all about... and then put arguments according to their poor knowledge of everything... Engineers are not Analyst on Technologies nor on Policies; they should only do their job... instead of cheating. At the end stupid secretaries stealing the content of the e-mails, and things like those for building new robots or products... that is not the way of administering Companies nor Countries. But they even do this at NASA, at the White House and at the Companies... they need to grew up as society... otherway you will all die at the end... or you will lose thousands of years and they will never get the needed technologies... when you talk to me; the best thing you can do is explaining me your budgets; that is the way I can help you better... because I already did the job for you... The other problem in the U.S.A is the Indian mafia of Professors and Engineers; all the Billionaires hire those corrupt as Advisors who then give advice to Elon Musk, to Bill Gates, to the Google Company or to the Instittutions with stolen topics... they make waste time...

You or anyone else watching this has the intelligence to work on robots like this, rather the issue is people don’t have the complete knowledge/documentation/experience. Personally I would love to build and program projects like this but I don’t have the resources required to do it. (Documentation, parts and experience.) If individuals could find resources quickly, freely and more accessibly then I feel more individuals would engineer new and innovative creations. (We seem to be moving in this direction but I feel it lags behind the people doing the “in the field” development/testing.)

@@Fractal_32 Definitely agreed with you right there. It's even worse when people have medical backgrounds that can affect their daily lives and job finding opportunities such as Asperger's or autism, even if they have the motivation, talents and skills and other requirements that matches for the job they still couldn't find any success compared to those that're talented and normal, as the result it kills their motivation and their will to live to the point where they became depressed or consider their autism to be a curse which can understandable from their point of view. It's really complex than what 'normal minded' people think. Technically i was meant to be in the Air Force maintenance team or pilot right now instead of wasting my life doing uni work overtime and commenting stuff but because of my medical history and my shitty experience in middle and high school (thanks alot young me), i'd probably get there in god-knows or maybe never due to their strict recruitment phases and requirements. Basically, being born with autism is like a new player being matched with an elite gaming team that can dominate the Esports arena while getting autism diagnosis in later life is like playing Dark Souls related games. It's easier at first with some difficulty but after finding out you have the diagnosis your life turns to shit instantly.

I love the usual demos, but I think I love this video the most. Seeing the "reality" of the constant iteration and failures, the actual engineering talent and repairs behind the scenes, and even what goes into building the courses really shows the scale of the problems behind robotics how y'all are going about challenging them. Too many people are under the impression that these are already or very soon going to be sentient killbots ready to kick down their door, but this shows that scifi is scifi for a reason and there's still a long way to go. Really appreciated this video. I was in grade seven when I first saw Atlas being bullied and since then working at Boston Dynamics has been a dream of mine. I'm now entering an undergraduate degree in engineering (mechatronics focused) at UBC. Recently I've been worrying that the most interesting work to be done is all on the sofware and computer science side, but this video reassured me that the mechanical side is far from boring. I'll likely still pursue education in computer science later on, but I'm more excited than ever for what engineering has to offer. Wherever I end up working, thank you so much to the BD team for the never ending inspiration and joy.

People have watched so many movies and so much CGI these days that it may be hard for someone under 40 to appreciate just what BD has done and how much real-world engineering has gone into this. It is just awesome to see talented engineers keep pushing and pushing over decades, and end up with something that was sci-fi 20 years ago. Compare that to Elon Musk's "I'm going to build a humanoid robot" presentation with the mime in a spandex suit, that got so much press recently....yes, you will, if you buy BD and slap a "Tesla" sticker on it.

is Atlas's waypoint programmed ? or does Atlas choose himself when and where it will step or jump or vault? I mean can Atlas find a way out of a building itself or does his route needs to be programmed step after step?

I imagine rn it's programmed step by step, it's probably a while from that level of autonomous capability but, their progress has been incredibly fast so you never know.

Man, I’ve worked with Lego Robotics where you have to ask; - Is the program written correctly? - Is the NXT (brain) working? - Are the wires working? - Are the wires transmitting both power AND data? - Are the motors / sensors working? This is so many orders of magnitude more complex.

Please post a video explaining exactly how these 'performances' are coded. How much of the movement is taken care of 'on the fly' and how much is hard coded into the routine. Given a set of obstacles like a load of wooden creates, can Atlas work out its own way across or does it need a human programmer to spend weeks working out all the idividual movements required to hop across them?
