I remember when events like this, a company's vision for the future, used to be commonplace. Well I don't personally remember, but I've seen lots of videos about them and seen photographs of them from relatives. People used to dream about the future and what could be possible. They'd make concepts for things that were 20 or 30 years out, in their vision. Which is why I find it especially sad that some people just want to crap on Tesla for this. It's like people stopped dreaming. What the hell happened? Yesterday's Starship booster landing just showed that dreaming big pays off.
@tschuuuls4863 ай бұрын
Dreaming big is cool. Selling customers Full Self Driving in 2016 and still not delivering the promise in 2024 is sad. Making videos demonstrating such capabilities and later having to admit in in front of a court that is was staged is sad. The transition from hip futuristic CEO. to autocrat loving person that actively tries to manipulate elections is also a sad truth. The engineering teams of said companies are capable of a bunch of really impressive stuff and have creative solutions to a lot of problems. Imagine how much better the world could be if the leadership wouldn't do and say asinine things all the time.

The difference being they didn't promise the technology you are buying today will be able to do the things of the future. They also didn't promise ridiculous unachievable timelines. It was suggested on Farzad channel that this Van could be made specifically for the Boring Tunnels and for zoned off areas like airports etc. it was suggested that the minimal space between the unit and the ground is designed this way so that air can be pumped out from underneath, avoiding air penetration lifting the vehicle up. As a Business guy and current Automotive Technology Management student I'm not worried about the short in the longterm (every event Tesla has held resulted in a rapid selling of shares) nothing is reflective of Tesla, just reflective on Wallstreets inability to appraise a stock past a 6 month period. Since their were no short-term benefits that are projected at these events, Wallstreet calls it 'disappointing'. It's baffling how smart and stupid Wallstreet is when you look at how they analyze a companies worth over such a short time, never considering long-term potential. Your mindset, and I mean this, respectively, is looking at the same short-term nitpicks that Wallstreet does, it's like trying to look at a prototype build and complaining baout it not being ready, we'll yah, it's not finished. Optimus is the same, ignoring the fact that software wasn't used, which is perfectly fine. What they demonstrated was that the robotics that actually go into operating the machinery is what this event is really showing off. Again, with the long-term promise that it will be able to do this remotely. It's all about patience, but I understand that that is a virtue, so many people don't know how to develop. I hope you can respect what I am trying to say and don't take offense, I just want to help you come away with a more positive take than what the majority see. 🤙🏻

@@petermetro4686 Gotta manufacture an appropriate-sized vehicle before you can dispatch it. There is a huge gap between the 2-seater and a 20-seater. For that matter, the 2-seater shown is actually a fairly bad design when a similar form-factor could hold 4-seats in a 2-on-2 face-to-face topology. That would be far better suited as a robocab than what was shown. And as much as I'm sure some pundits and owners are salivating over regular private vehicles being used as robo-taxis to make their owners a bit of cash, the market saturation that Elon is obviously planning to achieve will make that more or less worthless. Private vehicles are not going to fill these gaps.

@@junkerzn7312 Most of Uber drivers only driver a single person or max of 2. No family with 3 kids will order an uber. So this is also design around that, this is for business people or people wanting to go to a place. For families, there is prob where the Robovan comes in, it can do 14-20 people.

@@junkerzn7312 AI response of advantages : While the potential for significant earnings from private vehicles as robo-taxis might be diminished by market saturation, there could still be some advantages: Supplemental Income: Even if the earnings aren't substantial, they could provide a valuable source of supplemental income for vehicle owners. Reduced Vehicle Costs: The revenue generated could help offset the costs of owning and operating the vehicle, such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance. Leveraging Existing Assets: For those who already own a vehicle, it represents an existing asset that could be put to work. Potential for Future Value: As the technology and regulatory landscape evolve, the value proposition of using private vehicles as robo-taxis could change. It's important to note that these advantages would need to be weighed against the potential challenges and uncertainties associated with this business model.

When others have referred to Wall Street's demands for a company to be profitable and sustain it going forward as being "dogmatic," it's a good sign that there's a bubble.

I can see that you'd be able to get several fully-loaded standard shipping pallets into the robovan, if you combine it with an automated warehouse system you've reinvented "last mile logistics". Goods can go from the manufacturer to storage and to the end customer without any human intervention. Additionally because it doesn't create fumes, it doesn't have to stop at the "loading bay" it can drive around inside a building too such as an exhibition hall . Now, what city is very consumerist, has very large exhibition halls and even has private roadways to speed things up even further...
@alanlight77403 ай бұрын
Yes. We talk about containerized shipping revolutionizing the world, but tend to forget that a great deal of shipping is done at the pallet level rather than the container level - and that this performs a very similar function. Combined with other trends such as all the small businesses selling to customers on platforms such as Amazon and Ebay, we have already seen a huge increase in shipping that does not start at some big factory. Having a logistics system centered around pallets makes a whole lot of sense in this scenario.

@@alanlight7740 would ppl like this to show up at their home and have a robot ring the bell?
@alanlight77403 ай бұрын
@@petermetro4686 - palletized cargo probably would not show up at individual homes, but rather at small businesses or distribution centers. The difference with using such a system would be a reduction in handling between origin and destination. However, these robovans could also be used as delivery vans and, yes, individual packages might be delivered by humanoid robots. Would people like this? I'm not qualified to speak for millions of individuals, but I think that most would not mind so long as they get their package quickly and in good condition.

Great analysis Sandy! One huge thing you surprisingly missed; the lack of a back window is for privacy. These will be electronically tethered and travel down the highway like a "cybertrain" because it cuts congestion by 60% and nearly doubles range through aerodynamic drafting. As such, if another car is three feet off your bumper, you wouldn't want them staring at the back of your head for hours.

The main reasons are cost and weight. No complicated heavy glass setting, no electronics, motor or wiring for rear demister or rear wiper. Cheaper and lighter. Reduced COGS and better efficiency for the car.
