None of the criticisms are valid. The film is a work of art, that shines in comparison to other works of art.

I would completely agree about the idealisation of Paris. I have been many, many times and Abbesses metro is completely covered in graffiti. But that is the essence of the film - it is the Paris you want it to be, not the Paris it is. Surely, no one believes that London is like Paddington! It’s a piece of art.

Amelié was shot around a cleaned Paris because the character was a child or innocent. Her character lived in a bubble that didn't notice or certainly didn't understand it and let those things slip. Just like an adult joke in a child's cartoon.

All his films are unique, packed with so much detail and pathos. It is such a shame he finds it difficult to get funding in order to make more. The film is a fantasy so why would it represent raility, none of his other films do, either. Absurd.
