I learned from watching my old man. You can save everything because you might need it, I think for the old man it was a learned practice left over from the Great Depression, but when you do need it you spend so much time looking for it that its just faster and easier to buy a new one.

It's a mental illness. My former college professor at LB State had their home condemn in Huntington Harbor in the late 90s for hoarding so bad, it stunk up the already stinky HB Harbor community. It was torn down.

They think the items have value regardless of its condition. I think it has to do with how they grew up. I have relatives like this and I know they grew up with very little so anything they buy or get their hands on they think it’s worth the same as they paid for it.
