It’s Paul Lukas - the YODA of sports uni’s. If Uniwatch. This is a BIGTIME score of an interview. Thanks Brody!!! Paul is so good, and has been doing this for maybe a couple decades I wanna say… as a Canadian, and big follower of baseball, basketball and of course hockey… I respect Paul’s incredible insight on things. Take a look at his opinions on nameplate lettering. Is it vertical or radial arching….? That is amazing stuff he brings to the fore. One question though: and I agree with Brody… how it feels in person, when you hold it, when you wear it, how you FEEL when you ‘look’ good… is a part of performance… so I’d say, yessss… the embroidery, the care, the craft of these proud uniforms more than makes up for a half ounce here or there…. When you look good, you feel good… and you PLAY better!

Fanatics has their name on everything. That's millions in advvertizing making them huge in the market. Nobody from Fanatics looked at this in the testing stage and told Nike on record, "Are you sure about this?". That would have saved their butts publicly. No. They saw a crappier, cheaper product and said, "Sure. We'll make that". They wanted to make an "official jersey" so they can sell a cheaper product for under $100 to more fans to make higher profits in the retail market. Oops. Instead, you want too far and produced junk that everybody hates.

Even when there were multiple manufacturers simultaneously making MLB uniforms years ago - Majestic, Rawlings and Russell Athletic, for example - you didn't see these kinds of problems. This is just unforgivable and an embarrassment for baseball.

Nike changed something that didn’t need change and not only made it worse but at this point giveaway jerseys look better than the real ones. MLB also needs to take some of the blame for approving the New Jerseys so quickly without more input from the players and fans. NBA did a good job with there redesigns and went thru players input. Same with the NFL. Don’t know what happened here but I truly believe this was rushed by Nike and MLB and with zero input from players. Hopefully a lesson was learned here. Don’t mess with something that doesn’t need to be fixed.

I don’t buy the “it’s the same factory” argument. That’s like expecting McDonalds, after moving into a space previously occupied by Burger King, to continue to serve Whoppers. I also don’t believe that Nike created the specs all on their own. That’s not how it works. They consult with the manufacturer to determine viability, price, availability of materials, etc. before finalizing on the specs.

MLB uniforms have been going downhill for a while; they just went too far this time. I have two Blue Jays jerseys (one Majestic, one Nike), and the Majestic jersey is the only one with stitched lettering and emblems.

This effort to “modernize” the game (read: generate youth/pop culture interest) is creating a grotesque product. Baseball is what is. Sometimes stuff doesn’t need to be changed. The public is fickle and the youth are busy on their phones. The game doesn’t need to chase anyone IMO. Make a durable, classic, big league worthy uniform. If that means 1 million less in revenue…so be it. The greed is sickening.

How about getting rid of city abbreviations and nicknames from city connect uniforms? I never liked it in NBA uniforms and it looks even worse on baseball jerseys.

Mr. Brazil, Sir, one thought that I had and haven't heard anyone mention... Didn't the lawyers for Major League Baseball write a clause in their contract with the company responsible for this mess? Something like, "If the manufacturer of this agreement does not meet any one of the specifications in this agreement, this contract may be 'immediately terminated' by Major League Baseball. I would think that of all things, a legal contract would have an 'immediate termination' clause. Just a thought. Hopefully, you will stay on top of this story? I suspect that things will become interesting at some point in the very near future.

Nike is the company demanding these POS uniforms for Fanatics to produce. Not a fan of the latter, but blame rests solely with the former for MLB unis. I hope Nike stays away from the NHL! I wish the NHL would go back to CCM, Reebok or go with Under Armor.
