So, Marine One is actually a Sikorsky S-61, a model that first flew in the 1950s. This reminds me of the B52 bomber, also a 1950s machine. Maybe the new presidential limousine should be a modified '57 Chevy.
@wrightmf

I think a '57 Chevy by itself is practically an armored vehicle and its engine is EMP proof.

For anyone that doesn't know what a kilogram (kg) is, it is the metric equivalent to 2.2 pounds (lbs). So the 12 kgs is 26.4 lbs. Obviously, the creators of this video didn't read over the script and do a reality check. The gross weight is the empty weight plus the weight of what it's meant to carry (crew, passengers, cargo, and fuel). It was given that the empty weight was 7 tons, which is 14,000 lbs. Maybe they are inadvertently telling us that the helicopter has antigravity technology that reduces the 20,000+ lbs to effectively 26.4 lbs. Or maybe they screwed up. 🤷‍♂

I have a stupid question: Why dont planes and helicopters have parachutes instead of just letting everyone face certain death?
@JohnMcGann90
@JohnMcGann90 Жыл бұрын
There are some that do, however the size of the parachute to have any effect would be massive, then you have to add the stress on the airframe. Finally you have to look at elements like autorotation for helicopters and glide distance for aircraft meaning if its just an engine failure they dont fall out the sky, they only do that when something massive goes wrong which is a low chance, and even lower that something like that goes wrong but doesn't damage the parachute system. Not a stupid question at all, one I did some research on during my engineering degree because I had the same question!

Turned wrenches for 4 years on the H-3 (SH-3A/G/D & H models), what I want to know is how they kept all the hydraulic fluid and trasnmission lubricant that used to coat the bottom of the transmission and drip on the cabin floor, soak the soundproofing etc off the President. Only managed to get quick glances of the interior of these helo's when Reagan would fly into NAS Pt Mugu. They parked them in the hanagr where my squadron VXE-6 worked out of. Marines always guarding these aircraft 24/7 and the area around them was roped off.

Wow, the VH-92 "failed to meet the requirements"... big surprise. The White House should have asked the RCAF how we were doing with our CH-148 Cyclone variant. One of them flew the crew (including a buddy of mine) into the water because of Sikorsky's messed up flight management system and lack of testing. And here we are, 4 years later, and there's no physical fix for the issue- they opted instead to warn crews that one simple switch can kill them... not to mention the failure to meet performance requirements. No wonder we're the only suckers that bought them.
