It’s not “your” tax money. If you do a little bit of research you’d realize that the bonds issued for this stadium will be paid back with a small increase in hotel tax. Meaning it’s people coming in from out of town that pay the bill when they’re coming into town as tourists. Nothing is coming out of general funds. Keeping a team in your city, especially when the city is trying to attract more pro sports teams and more tourism is a big deal and will benefit the area more broadly than just what the sports team will generate.
@mrxman581
@mrxman581 4 ай бұрын
@ryand5725 It should be privately funded. A city shouldn't be paying the majority of the construction for infrastructure that doesn't directly benefit the residents like roads, libraries, schools, public transit, etc. In LA, sports venues are privately funded like the Sofi Stadium and the recently opened Intuit Dome. Even the under construction Lucas Museum is privately funded. And those hotel taxes could be better spent for residents instead of paying back debt to build this sports venue.

It’s comical and disappointing that billionaires say that taxpayers should fund stadiums as it’s their source of entertainment. Like wtf? We give you our business and our money for entertainment it’s not you who is making it for us. Respect to Ballmer and Sofi owners for putting their own money on the line. @@holden5478 Maybe it was just a dump because the last world cup was held in open-air stadiums. New England's gillette stadium has shopping, dining and entertainment, lumen stadium and levi stadium are other open-air stadiums that are active year-round. Open-air venues have overwhelmingly been the more popular platforms throughout history. Domes used in places like Minnesota or Detroit are somewhat understandable. Basically it comes back to the nfl making bad decisions due to big wigs being out of touch with most fans. I think the day lambeau field becomes a dome will be the final blow for the brand.

Because the NFL sees the path to the future is to not present the NFL as a sporting event,but more as a theme park that is generating money 365 days a year. There is one key detail that needs to be mentioned. The titans deal created the opportunity for the city to bid out adjacent parcels of land for new development as well. Metro has awarded the initial 30 acres already and will begin receiving ground lease payments, substantially increased property tax revenue, and immeasurable economic benefit from that deal. The city also is requiring a certain number of affordable housing units be built around the stadium and that number totals more than 700 in just the initial 30 acres.

Another issue are those clauses that many NFL teams have with their stadium leases stating to one degree to another that their current stadium must be in the top tier of NFL stadiums otherwise the team can break the lease and move their team to a city willing to fund a new state of the art stadium for them (e.g Rams to LA)
@TheLAGopher
@TheLAGopher Ай бұрын
Another thing is that top tier clause was put in place in the 90s when the NFL was undergoing expansion into Jacksonville,and Carolina. But also a relocation boom of NFL teams moving to St.Louis,Nashville, back to Oakland, and into Baltimore (requiring the NFL to expand back into Cleveland) Cities desperate to get teams,and keep teams signed off on "top tier" clauses. What they didn't see coming was the rise of "Destination" NFL stadiums that were not marketed as hallowed grounds for pro football but as lavis sports meccas where the building itself, is the attraction.

Its the dome that Taylor, Beyonce, and Garth built. The use of existing Nissan stadium as a concert venue(especially during CMA fest) is the reason it is being replaced. What does the weather in Nashville do during the evening in June?? Thunderstorms. So many concerts have been delayed or canceled at the existing outdoor stadium, it usually happens once or twice a year. Thus the dome.

So, as someone from Nashville the biggest controversy with this stadium is that they shrunk it down significantly (with massive ticket price hikes to make up for the loss ticket revenue potential) and that makes it even MORE difficult for the born and raised locals to afford to go to the games. There will be no stadium specific parking and Nashville has effectively 0 public transportation. So, price gouged parking across the river will be the best option. The interstates are a disaster at best, but that isn't new and is still dealt with today. The stadium's public funding is in large part being funded by tourism tax, hotel tax, and gameday day tax. Overall, I think it is awesome we are getting a new stadium! However Nashville has announced no plans to help accommodate for 50k+ people driving to a game. Where is the rail? Where are the bus lines? Where is the increased interstate capacity? (Not Choice Lanes, that's a scam.) Why they decided to use Artificial turf is beyond me. You will soon see that you will lose opportunities to host other massive sporting events like the World Cup when they eventually refuse to play on not natural surfaces. As for those complaining the owners should pay for, the stadium costs $2b dollars. Amy Adams Strunk's net worth is only about $2b... so it was either fund a stadium or let another city fund a stadium and say goodbye to the NFL in Nashville.

The artificial turf they installed last year at Nissan stadium is so much cheaper to maintain and causes fewer injuries than grass. It also looks so much better. I am really happy that turf is in now so that the Titans are used to it before moving into the new stadium. There is a new transit plan to vote on in November. And I am glad you brought up the owners' net worth. They are contributing a decent amount, and they don't have the money to fund it themselves (though I do wish they had funded more).

I'm not a TN local, but I'm aware that the state is car-centric. My ideal version of Nashville would be public transit, with the land next door being turned into a major transit center. I've been there before and the pedestrian bridge to me seems like the perfect beginning piece of transit accessibility.

Nashville...smh. This city always manages to waste money. The absolute dumbest thing that they ever did was getting rid of Opryland. It was hands down one of the best theme parks in America. My family loved it. I have great memories from going as a child. Everybody loved it. But, they shut it down and built a mall where it used to be. A mall. Malls are quickly becoming extinct. How shortsighted was that? Years later, they even admitted that it was a horrible mistake. But, it's too late. The damage is done. But, yes, Nashville, please waste some more money on a stadium that will be outdated in 15 years and you'll be unhappy with it too.

The current stadium was “Valued engineered” to get the cost down so it would pass the city council the 1st time. Value engineering means cheaply built. While it’s not falling apart, it would cost too much money to fix things like the sewer and plumbing issues.also things have change in 20 years with the game day experience that require more electric usage and other things. I have never liked the stadium setup and that 300 deck is very high up and steep.
