According to wiki sources. There have been 224 Inside the park grand slams. (Most happened in the past when many fields were bigger.) Only 26 in the past 50 years. Only 8 since 1990. (as of August 2014) Honus Wagner has the most in MLB with 5.

@Speirs2489 жыл бұрын
To get an inside-the-park home run, you need one of or any combo of four things, maybe five if you count the third base coach. 1. A great pitch 2. A great swing 3. A terrible outfielder play 4. SPEEEEEED (depending on how horrible #3 is)
@willoughbykrenzteinburg9 жыл бұрын
Quinn Clayton 1) No you don't - inside the park home runs are not necessarily well-hit balls; they are just well-placed. 2) No you don't - as with point number 1. A ball down the line that a player dives for is sometimes all you need 3) No you don't - they are categorically NOT bad plays by the defense; if they were, then these wouldn't be home runs - they would be errors. They are not errors. They are tough plays. 4) No you don't - Prince Fielder. Enough said.
@Speirs2489 жыл бұрын
Willoughby Krenzteinburg 1. I guess explain your definition between Well-hit and well-placed? From my point of view well hit just means you put the ball right where you wanted, not the power behind it. 2. ^^ 3. That's getting into the technicalities, but diving at a ball and missing it completely, or running into the outfield wall when the ball isn't even gonna land there qualify to myself, and quite a few others as bad defensive play. 4. Bad defensive play. In the future, for you, I'll say "You need one of" these things. Aside from that, if you still don't agree or at least see my point of view, that's fine with me. It's just my opinion. Have a good one.
@TheMattharrington1239 жыл бұрын
Quinn Clayton I completely agree with your statement. Mostly the part about the defense, and anyone arguing against that can rewatch the video. The defense either misreads the ball or it should have been an error. and also to the guy arguing about prince fielder, yes he doesnt have much speed but if you read the comment correctly he states that you might not need as much speed depending on the defense's reaction to the play
@Speirs2489 жыл бұрын
TheMattharrington123 I can kinda understand why a dive isn't an error if they just miss it, because infielders sometimes dive for the ball too late and it goes directly under them, base hit. But if a ball bounces out of the glove, definitely should be an error with a run scored.
@willoughbykrenzteinburg9 жыл бұрын
Quinn Clayton You cannot have an error on a play that is NOT routine. If the play is not made on a ball in which the successful play would require more than ordinary effort, it's not an error regardless of whether it hits the glove of the fielder attempting the play or not. This is the case. What you think it _should_ be is irrelevant. Batters cannot control _exactly_ where the ball goes. Some can intentionally put them in a _general_ area, but ITPHR are usually the result of players diving and the ball deflecting off the wall at odd angles.....things the batter had zero intention or control of. There is a lot of luck involved. Asserting that that's exactly what the batter was trying to do is nonsense. That's what I mean by "well-placed".
