May I ask how to cut slate into manageable pieces? My grandson wants a 5x7 picture frame for his favorite photo he took of a waterfall - and he wants me! to mosaic the frame with rock to make it look outdoorsy. I thought slate chips would be nice but have no idea what to cut them with. Your work is beautiful!

If you buy small slate chips you won’t need to cut them. I buy 10-30mm ones for my mosaic kits and they are fine to use as they are. But it depends on the size of slate you are starting with - for large pieces I use a hammer to break them up smaller, and for smaller pieces I use nippers to trim to size. I have an online course all about making mosaics with slate if you are interested in learning more.
