Nobody wants to volunteer to fight guerillas after basic training. funny that nobody knows that there has been a long guerilla war more or less since 1960's and so little mentioned in google.

Modern day National Slavery is what it is, similar here in Singapore except all men are drafted against their will whereas women get off scott free and they don't even pay extra taxes! (they get the same, tiny tax incentives granted to servicemen once they get married) 2-3 years behind in the workforce and education, putting local Singaporean men extremely behind their female peers and foreign expat workers. Absolutely Digusting -SG Male citizen

That is pretty awful. What I do not understand is many of the countries who do this really have no need to do so. It is confusing. For many people here military is a way out of poverty or such (its own form of exploitation imo,) it is bizarre to imagine how it could instead ruin prospects, which makes the entire system unethical and useless over time.
@Snartfoodler8 ай бұрын
I don't believe mandatory military service is a "good" thing so much as an opt-out system could be useful. This is a huge issue that too many countries skip over.

I mean, if it's not about being a drafted soldier, that's great. Having the right mentality can be incredibly effective in the proper role. But with this draft, you already know what you're going to do in there-cut the grass all day, lol.
@kungkoe62512 ай бұрын
One of the reason why some people choose to volunteer because the time they have to serve is shorten by half compare to if they got the red card. And if your've completed a barchelor degree or equivalent, you only need to serve 6 months with only a couple of weeks of field training.

Another interesting well done video. Much enjoyed! We love every country that is patriotic. You can sense true and noble patriotism when it's the quality. I could sense a deep sense of patriotism in Thai military and police the number of times I visited. I served in the US Army. I'd say half of us were true and noble patriots at heart and the other half were selfish, mean, and thieving. I had my wallet stolen 3 times on active duty and had to deal with a bunch of horrible bad guys while knowing some of the best Americans. I wish I could find them, but most are off the internet radar. We are humiliated by how America has become. If I were young today, I'd not join the military nor want to be drafted. I wouldn't have any opinion on how the Thai does their selection. I'm not sure if they're going to align with China or if they'll remain aligned with the West or if they're like India and Turkey playing on both sides whichever is beneficial. I know they are not woke despite having lady boys and gay going on, but are focused on protecting the sovereignty and safety of their country. Interesting times we're entering.

Wow...vastly different in Singapore. We have our National Service also. It's a mandatory thing where all males once you hit 18 get the red card instantly...lol. Quite an eye opener though. For us it's a rite of passage somewhat. 2 or 2.5 years of your life. Though here, our government does give incentives for those who are still doing the NS and even though who have finished it and are doing their reservist.
@wehatethecold8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment and sharing how it is over in Singapore. Which system would you prefer? Would you prefer it to be mandatory or have the chance at a draw? I know national service is a great thing in most countries, and it helps a lot of young men get direction when they don't know what to do with their lives.
@Ianlee19778 ай бұрын
@@wehatethecold I think it being mandatory serves it's purpose and i do agree with it. If you look at Singapore and how small we are as a nation, we need to be able to defend ourselves hence National Service. If we made it voluntary, no one would join and when you're actively serving, you pretty much do hate it at times depending on where you are posted to. But once you're out and in hindsight, it did teach you independence and i know a few who have signed on with the army as regulars.

@alexander1989x8 ай бұрын
The whole conscription system around the world needs to be changed. People don't want to be legally tied to their country after being drafted. A better way is a 3-week "no-obligation military training" or voluntary full 2 year PAID service.

@@wehatethecold i am from singapore. national service(NS) are mandatory upon reaching 18 years of age, some can defer for a few years for studies but they are just only delaying the inevitably lol. well, most of us kinda hate it :P but we understood the assignment. if there is an invasion who is gonna defend her? the females, your parent? but there are also who are really lucky, not so much as the gamble as shown in this video but u can serve your NS as police or the singapore civil defence force(firemen), u still cannot choose tho, and i was lucky to served my ns with the police but i'm guessing because my bro served in the army, hence subsequent siblings will be selected for another vocation.

If you wonder why the crowd cheers when a red card is drawn, well its because its one less red card to be drawn for their son. imagine cheering for someone to be conscripted and sent to fight guerillas.

In my country, ALL men from 17-18 have to pick the red card.. lol.. (to serve Military/Defence service for 2 years) I feel for those who pick the red card. I really do as it's disruptive to your studies/life/family. But for us, even after we finish those 2 years, we still have 10 years of yearly conscription of up to 40 days, and are still forced to cut our hair etc... On the bright side, once the Thais finish the 2 years it's over.. Good luck lads...

Sometimes I think whole countries should be run this way. A random-ocracy. Just a random selection of citizens that have to serve as politicians for 2-6 years. Once you've done your service you're ineligible for selection going forward.
