And by the way… I’ve said this several times in this forum. I’ve seen Longstreet play many times. This kid is a leader! He is elite and has a real chance to be special. Amazing arm talent and a true dual threat. If his transition is smooth and he is able to process college defenses the way he currently does and continues to make good decisions with the football, not only will he win the starting job but he’ll allow LR to open up the entire playbook. LR isn’t opposed to starting a freshman if he trusts that they are ready to lead and can make good decisions with the football. Longstreets decision making abilities are already better than JM and his intangibles are off the charts!

Greg is expressing the opinion that many USC fans have had for the last 3 yrs. Running the ball 1st makes so much sense being that you put pressure on the opposing team defense. Not aggressively recruiting and paying California high school players sooner has created a major issue for USC

Gregg Katz, welcome back to the huddle. It feels good to see your smile and hear your voice as you “Tell it like it is”. Chris Arledge: “I’m told that Caleb Williams may not return for next year’s season.” CHRIS: Please, for the love of - just please don’t share what I tell you in confidence. That is super secret, private intel. We’ve talked about this before. If you still want me to show you that secret “A-Lister” club handshake that we talked about, I don’t want to see you telling all of my insider information to the rest of the world ok? Listen, heres the important part: I’m told that occasionally Oregon people sneak in to hear this podcast. We can’t have them making plans to account for you-know-who showing up at QB next year, right?

3 seconds in and I'm going to let you finish, but i have 2 things to say... 1) so happy to see that Greg Katz is back! 2) ND HC Freeman and USC HC Riley were hired roughly at the same time as HC's. 1 is going to be playing in the 2025 Natty game while the other one (with more experience as a HC) is getting ready for the next season, hiring and recruiting great people, 1 game over .500... wtf? Fight On?✌

Great to see the entire gang back together. My thoughts…Is USC Football elite right now? No. Will they be elite in the near future? Absolutely! USC remains one of the most storied college football programs in NCAA history with one of the nations most recognized college football brands. Only Notre Dame has produced more NFL players, 525 than USC, 523 through 2023. With 11 National Championships and more Heisman award winners (8) than any other college football program, USC is among a small elite number of Blue Blood programs. Does that mean we’re incapable of having some down years due to poor decisions at the administration and coaching and recruiting levels? Of course not. But history has proven that USC knows how to right the ship. And while we’ve stumbled a bit during this new era of college football and NIL, look for USC to get back to prominence sooner than later. 2025 already projects to be an exciting season and you can clearly see the changes in recruiting strategies being implemented to address the talent gap we’ve been seeing over the last 6-8 years. Excited to see this program continuing to progress despite the win loss record in 2024. Patience people. I’ve been a Trojan since 1976 so I’ve seen some good days and bad. Notre Dame hasn’t won a championship in 36 years! We’re coming back. You can take that to the bank! Fight On! ✌🏽

Really good point, Chris. Our problem is we are partially in and not all in. We gotta figure out how to pay players more NIL money and start assembling an elite roster. OR, let’s be a mediocre football program and focus on academics like Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern.

What part of "California has the #1 and #2 ranked high school football programs in the country" does USC not understand? Absolutely insane if we don't put a fence around Mater Dei and St. John Bosco. The issue hasn't been entirely about money. Ask the coaches at both of those schools if USC has been on campus or whether USC is communicating with the coaching staff and building a solid recruiting pipeline.

Marc doesn’t understand that all players, including high school players are year to year mercenaries. There is no guarantee that high school recruits will stay. Also, the lame ducks of Oregon did have a good season, with only one loss. USC not even an elite bowl team, let alone a playoff team. Pay the players if you want to win

Welcome back Greg....the Pregnon situation is frustrating, and the optics are bad but I'm not sure Riley played that individual circumstance wrong, what he has done wrong is basically everything else, which is the reason for this middling roster, with a seeming lack of any kind of team culture......... piss poor recruiting to go along with an asinine recruiting strategy, followed by a mass exodus of talent at every opening, stubbornness and arrogance with his coaching staff that wasted a Heisman QB and helped destroy SC's chances with many recruits, criminally stupid play calling this past season that consistently put average QB's in bad spots, weaseling out of/attempting to weasel out of tough games just to try to back door his way into a playoff (pissing in the face of PC's "anyone, anytime, anywhere").......at least in exchange for all of this he doesn't act indifferent about what the fans think, oh wait.....

These guys are right: it makes no sense at all to pay the coaching staff billions and then hope they can coach up 1 stars paid 1 star money to beat an Ohio State. And it makes no sense to run a QB centric system with average to good (not great) QB's. That's how you get to 7--6.

You can take the coach out of the passing game, but you can never take the passing game out of the coach. SC hired another version of what I call a "me to offence" Ala Mike Leach. Exciting, entertaining never wins championships!

Marc your assessment of where LR might be headed in terms of an offensive identity with loading up the RB and TE room with a an unproven QB room would be logical but wouldn’t that have been the thing to do last season with Miller and Maiava as back up ? I mean come on woody Marks damn near had a 8 yard rushing average. Is LR a day late and dollar short kind of guy ? Seems the entire world has untrained eyes except for LR so what makes you or anyone think LR has or will redefine his play calling philosophy? I don’t see him doing such a thing

I totally disagree with the rant about us not having the roster to get into the CFP or that we dont have any elite talent. Lemon and Lane are not elite? Really? BS. You guys have become a real downer. There are only a few teams that have a roster we probably cant compete with. Lynn will have a great defense with the players he is getting and the coaches, plus his scheme. Next year is addition by subtraction. We are getting rid of experienced players who did not deliver or had limitations.

Chris your a hater. Jayden Maiava is an Elite quarter back and i'm calling it now. Jayden Maiava has only 4 starts and got here just before the spring game and was working with the backups all Last year. Miller Moss had 3 full years and a 9 games season with interceptions in every game not including the holiday bowl. Lincoln Riley already said in his post game presser after Texas A&M bowl game when he was asked if Jayden Maiava would be the starter in 2025 and he basically said yes. Jayden Maiava threw short and intermediate passes to his receivers and he threw with anticipation and on stride to his receivers when he played against the number 5 Ranked team and number 1 passing defense in Notre Dame, Look at where Notre Dame is now they are playing for the national championship. You got to be fair with Jayden Maiava and give 1 full year, summer and fall with the starters and to clean up his mistakes. What quarter back in College or the NFL that doesn't throw interceptions or sometimes fumbles the ball. Jayden Maiava played also well against the number 2 defense in Nebraska and a very very good defense in UCLA and he played exceptional against Notre Dame even if he threw 2 interceptions. Jayden Maiava will become a great quarter back under the Lincoln Riley offense. USC Trojan fan since the mid 80s and 90s, Fight On!
