@SquareNoggin5 ай бұрын
@@nedisahonkey Herrera's leagues ahead of the typical congressman frankly, but that's a low bar these days. I don't know if you've noticed, but elected representatives in Canada and the US these days are some of the most braindead among us. Thomas Massie made an interesting (albeit obvious) observation about congressman in his recent (excellent) interview with Tucker Carlson - politicians tend to be people who really like to be liked. So regardless of the principles they may get into politics standing on, once they get to the higher echelons of their district or state's political cliques, and then after that the cliques of Washington, they very often end up conforming to the status quo of those social groups. If for no other reason than they want to be invited to parties and have people to hang out with. It sounds silly but it also makes perfect sense. This is why I think there's actually great value in electing a youtuber/social media personality like Herrera - and populists in general, Trumpiam figures if you will. To the point that I'd sooner vote for a popular outsider like Herrera who's political vision is vaguely like mine, or at least overlaps a fair amount - rathee than vote for a candidate who 100% perfectly articulates the purest form of the political ideology I think is true and just, but who is a nobody and will have to rely on his party's political machines to gain traction, and who will have to make new friends at the top. Particularly since any candidate who does share a political vision with me will necessarily be very unpopular with and likely to be bullied by the entrenched political establishment. The social media populist types also like to be liked (clearly) - but they also already have a vast social clique and status within it, they have a fanbase/audience/supporters that are distinct from the entrenched political machines, and they could conceivably piss off and become anathema to all the people in Washington or in the political class of their state and still have a network of people to fall back on and feel accepted by. So even if you set aside policies and party politics and such - I think it's dumb to dismiss figures who've become popular in social media as potential political candidates. They've actually demonstrated that they are very good at doing exactly what politicians mostly do - be liked by lots of people. And if they've uploaded a million videos and posts and such - it's pretty straightforward to get a sense of the sort of person they are. Given that gun policies are a relevant and controversial political issue in the US, it really makes perfect sense that an online community like guntube would annoint on if it's own as a representative to send to congress and lobby for the interests that the sort of people who enjoy that content have. As much as there's a lot of phoniness and nonsense on social media - I think if we're going to continue to try and make this representative democracy work, more elected representatives should probably be coming more from various social media communities - rather than continuously just getting lawyers from the same handful of ivy league schools. Not only is being a politician not actually that intellectually challenging or complicated (it's much more a test of character than it is a test of wisdom or expertise) - but the ivy league lawyers aren't nearly as impressive these days as they may have been historically. It's a very progressive liberal thing to view legislating as something we need "experts" to do. It's not, the people accredited by our modern institutions aren't especially learned and lack genuine expertise anyways, and to think that way is frankly to reject the notion that the people have a role to play in so-called self-governing in the first place. In short, Herrera is exactly the sort of guy we should be electing to congress, and I think that even if you don't agree with his politics there's good reason to prefer him over a cookie cutter manufactured ivy league lawyer.

A youtuber didn't lie and throw Brandon under the bus? Whaaaat.
@KaelynSmith-bc9ww6 ай бұрын
can you explain how boy boy “threw brandon under the bus?” he said he was an incredibly nice person. all he did was show off the goofiness, and to an natural extent, the mania of american gun culture. he offered a counter perspective from a darker side that the right wing is not willing to address at all, in the slightest, unless the solution is more guns. but he didn’t do character assassination on brandon, that’s just absurd, the only person he evens slightly called out was donut, because he’s an ex-cop who regularly defends cops shooting unarmed people. if you cut that kind of propaganda, you’re kind of an asshole, and that’s coming from someone who watched his sovereign citizen bingo streams and shit back in the day.
@minecraftsteve25046 ай бұрын
@@KaelynSmith-bc9ww This video itself literally explains one of the biggest issues. BB went out of their way to set up and paint Brandon in a light (like with his usage of weapons used in the yugoslavian war, or the child targets that they claimed was Brandon's decision when it wasn't) Do you have reading comprehension?
@KaelynSmith-bc9ww6 ай бұрын
@@minecraftsteve2504 went back and watched both i did a thing and boy boy’s videos. there was never any time that they insinuated the child targets were brandon’s idea, im not sure where he got that braindead idea or why he said it on that podcast. they pull them out and say “i thought the gun guys would stop us when we pulled out the child targets” it was a little tongue and cheek joke about them not caring about school shootings, but they never said they were brandon’s idea. timestamp is 10:10, they pull them out and it’s clear that the gun guys are surprised and it was something pre-planned by i did a thing. so yeah, after rewatching all three videos and miscellaneous podcast clips, it kinda just seems like brandon went back on being chill with them in order to cut some actual beef. he left a kind comment on boy boy’s video (so his opinion after fully watching it) about not being taken out of context. kinda just seems like he’s going back on that now to create drama around this video.
