It looked tacky to me as well. Half an acre of gold leaf? A leopard print staircase? Rose petals? Fairly basic amenities save for private butler? Not hating at all this would be a great experience for people willing to drop a couple grand on a vacation where they take picture of themselves on this luxurious vacation in Dubai. However I don’t believe the majority of wealthy people meant to be associated with this kind of hotel would actually want to stay there. It’s almost like a caricature of luxury. I expect a little more taste if I am spending $$$$ on a hotel room.

Got to visit here back in 2015. While I didn't stay at the Burj, we did a dinner and afternoon tea here and as everyone says, the details are just nuts. Gorgeous and bold and an unafraid use of colors and patterns and whimsical designs. If you can afford the tours or meals let alone staying here, I'd highly recommend it.

I went there wayyy back in 2000, (I was just a kid), one of our relatives (no he was not staying in the hotel) invited us for lunch at Al Muntaha on 27th (54th) floor. I remember the view of the sea from the top, the ultra fast elevator, and i remember the ultra luxury cusine the burj had to offer including the caviar, the seafood, and on tops, dessert sprinkled with 24K gold flakes.

We stayed at the Movenpick at Ibn Batutta. It's a 5 star hotel. It was so beautiful and it surpassed our needs and expectations. It was only $70 dollars a night. Dubai definitely has higher expectations of luxury than anywhere else.

I sleep pretty well on a tempurpedic mattress with plenty of pillows, but the best wake-up in all my 49 years was after the night I spent in a modest hotel in Scotland some 20 years ago. I woke up feeling refreshed and luxurious; I just did not want to push aside those comforters and I stretched the wait as long as I could. I mentioned this unusual feeling of comfort to our tour guide, and she explained about the eiderdown feathers. I've always chosen feather pillows for my own bed, but eiderdown-stuffed blankets must be rare in America.

I spent 3 weeks here on two different occasions and it is the best hotel in Dubai and probably in the whole world. It is amazing. I flew there on a helicopter the first time and went there by rolls Royce the second time and I kind of like the helicopter better because you can see the whole city
