USS Wasp, I served as flight deck corpsman early 92 until my honorable discharge in Nov 93. Did the Shellback initiation on that deck when we crossed equator during operations off the coast of Somalia summer 93.

Most of those were the Hornet. My uncle was a helicopter crewman and helped pick up the skylab 3 and 4 and apollo 14 missions when he was in the Navy.

When she says surgery she actually understated the medical capabilities of the Wasp. The ship has EIGHT operating rooms. My father served on the Wasp when he was in the Navy and has very fond memories of his time aboard.

6 Operating rooms, 64 bed with 600 bed overflow (using troop berthing just forward of main medical) full medical laboratory etc. The 2nd most capable medical facility afloat besides the Mercy class hospital ships!

my dad served on the USS Wasp 2 times in his career. He was 19 the first time as a Diesel worker and he just finished his second time in June. He was the Chief Engineer. The Wasp was his final ship. I could not be more proud of him

I served on the WASP, SAR det retired rescue swimmer. If you look in the video you’ll see the helicopter on the flight deck you can barely make out BR on the tail with a little octopus HC-8 which turned into HSC-28 outta Norfolk Va!

Damn, a lot of respect for rescue swimmers. Excuse my ignorance, but were you a detachment from the Coast Guard or do PJs perform rescue swimmer roles as well? Massive respect either way, I used to watch Coast Guard rescue swimmers practice all the time here in Rhode Island as a kid and my dad did a ton of work with the PJs, heard a lot of stories.

have you ever seen the tv documentary called, Battle 360? 10 episodes about the USS Enterprise CV(N)-6. also has many interviews with former Sailors. if you like history, you're going to love this tv series. one of the places you can watch it at is tubi I once visited a WW2 sub. wow, you gain another level of respect for everyone who served aboard them. my closet is bigger than the captain's cabin

You should look up footage of her flooding out and spitting out hovercraft. It's cool to get in close to shore but they don't even have to. The LHD class originally started as a helicopter carrier but has evolved into so so much more. Truly fantastic value for tax dollars.

My son was the NGLO OFFICER for the 1-12 out of Hawaii (simperfi) he got to go on board the USS WASP when they went to ROCKET MANS FRONT DOOR. the boots I am now wearing were worn on that flight deck on that day. DANG IT BOY!!!! GO NAVY and US MARINES. ❤❤❤
