Once more unto the breach, dear friends. The Ukraine offensive was launched on Sunday June 4th 2023 on at least four sectors at the same time. This is a massive effort to breach Russian defenses along the over 1,000 km long front line. Ukraine aims to retake their territory and drive a wedge between Russia’s Land bridge in the south.
But was this an overly ambitious and unrealistic goal?
Well If you’re rooting for Russia, your view of the offensive so far is likely that Ukrainian forces' assault has slammed into an impenetrable Russian wall. You’ll point to Russian figures that Ukraine has lost 7,000 soldiers and 160 tanks and 360 armored vehicles destroyed including viral videos of destroyed fancy western vehicles.
2 Bros 1 Bunker Podcast:
• Woke Military is Worse...
Written by: Chris Cappy
Edited by: Maksym
If you’re rooting for Ukraine you likely believe the full counter offensive has yet to begin and only 1/4th of the 9 to 12 assault brigades have even been committed to the fight. You Probably think this movement will take time and look less like a sweeping victory and more like a creeping one.
I’m going to parse through the front line reports and try to look past the fog of war and look past the propaganda on both sides to see if we can get a better sense of what is really happening. We’ll look at NATO documents that I found that detail western breaching theory tactics and citrine. I want to see if it can give us some hints it might give us about how the offensive is progressing so far.

Once more unto the breach dear friends. Soldiers on both sides are currently living through one of the worst and most dangerous parts of the war. Today we take a look at NATO Breaching theory that was designed in the 1980s specifically to defeat hardened soviet defensive lines. However, those tactics were created with air power in mind...If you're interested check out our new podcast the 2 Bros 1 Bunker Podcast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXbReGqlqshonbs

I remember my uncle (a retired CSM as well as Vietnam & ODS Veteran) once told me that Desert Storm spoiled Americans into thinking all wars are or should be little video game conflicts that wrap up in about 72 hours. In the real world, conflicts against two fairly evenly matched armies look a lot like this...a chess match that test the competency and will of units from the brigade level all the way down to the squad and team level. Basically who is more competent in using the terrain to their advantage, shaping the battlefield, and exploiting the enemy's weaknesses. And lastly...who wants it more. Who has the will to fight through the misery and death to finally achieve their goal. So for these reasons, IMHO the AFU is doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing right now.

Excellent comments, I would also add that the Russian Army has had an entire winter to build a defense in depth and despite Russians lackluster abilities in some areas they are generally pretty competent at building defensive positions. These positions are going to take a longer time for the Ukrainian military to break through, especially since Ukraine isn't going to needlessly throw their most well trained soldiers into a meat grinder to try to manufacture a larger victory or reinforce failure. It's also important to remember that sometimes it's possible to do everything right and still lose, the loss of the Bradley's and Leopard's were certainly not a perfectly executed retreat but even when things go well it's still possible to lose. Say for example, in the Battle of 73 Easting, everyone talks about how brilliant the then Captain McMaster and his tank and Bradley crews were but people tend to forget one Bradley was also lost to enemy fire. In war, you can have a dominant victory, you can have a technological advantage, you can have the element of surprise, but all of the advantages mean nothing to those soldiers' families if just one enemy squad gets a good shot off. Sadly that is the nature of warfare and people are quick to forget that every piece of ground won, frequently required men or women to lose their lives to take it.

Biggest problem with a normal NATO breakthrough is that this is not a NATO army, regardless of current equipment. When the US punched into Iraq we established air dominance and crushed armor. Ukraine cannot make large equipment and troop concentrations due to Russian Air superiority, as well as being outgunned in artillery (not to mention mines). Unfortunately it will probably be more attritional until a breaking point of lack of artillery support and breaking air superiority. Unless they get F-16s soon, the pace of reclaiming territory will be slow.
@Rimasta1

@@Rimasta1 they definitely have air superiority, not air dominance. Superiority means more assets available, and Russias are mostly attack helicopters which specialize in tanks and armor. Dominance is taking out planes on the runways and elimination of air defense as well. Russia has superiority, but can't advance with it due to layered air defense. If Ukraine gets the 16s they can establish superiority, but won't be able to establish air dominance because Russia has air bases in nearby oblasts and neighboring Belarus. It's part of the reason you are seeing more helicopters downed lately and use of glide bombs to extend range from air defenses.
@AHalz
@AHalz Жыл бұрын
What makes you think F-16s will do any good? Especially against S-300 and S-400 layered defense, and when Russian AWACS can detect Ukrainian planes from hundreds of miles away? This is the same saying as ‘these Western tanks will break the Russian lines.’ And these tanks are now burning. Those F-16s will be shot down well before they can establish any type of air superiority.
@tallest4eva
@tallest4eva Жыл бұрын
F-16s wouldn't grant Ukraine air superiority magically. It would just make the air contest more balanced. Air superiority means suppressing enemy aircraft and anti-air assets (including shoulder-fired anti-air). Honestly, I doubt air superiority can be achieved by Ukraine this close to Russia.

From an old retired combat engineer, any breaching efforts will need to be focused on specific objectives along several axis of advance. Shaping of the battlefield through massive artillery, air support use and deception will be critical. A Point of penetration will be identified and will be the focus in that sector. The engineers must be prepared to conduct several breaches in depth and that will eat up a huge amount of equipment and munitions. A few destroyed Bradlie's are not indicative of any serious breaching effort. These are small probes at best. The entire "front" will need to be engaged while the respective points of penetration are executed. Air power will need to be engaged for success. God Bless them All.

Was watching a documentary on the pig war and noted how long it took for official replies (in this case the general in question got away with rackless aggression because he knew it would take 12 weeks to get a response from his commanders) and how much individual power it gave a general at the time. In this offensive however there isn’t much fog, because as said earlier; it’s entirely one-sided. Then imagine you are a Ukrainian on the ground knowing the real situation and you see a fake; it would demoralize you because you know you’re being lied to (because you know the reality). @@RUTHLESSambition5 Anybody who thinks if you have a certain opinion that that dictates who you're "rooting for" is a tool in my book. I think more honest coverage of this war would have portrayed it as a struggle and uphill battle for Ukraine from the get-go, because it is. Give them all the tech you want, fighting a war against a country with the wealth of natural resources and population that Russia has, right on their doorstep no less, is nearly impossible with Ukraine's manpower and resources. Russia is literally operating from their own soil and have direct access to the battlefield from their soil. He even insinuates in this video that it's possible that Ukraine may have had an "ace up their sleeve" and didn't send in all of their troops at the time of making this video - no, they didn't and no one living in reality thought that. Ukraine has a massive manpower issue and the demographic collapse that is going to follow this war in Ukraine is going to be staggering; they've lost an entire generation of young men. You also never see anyone cheerleading for Ukraine also showing the videos or reports covering the Ukrainians shelling their own neighborhoods or forcing people with severe medical conditions, or people who are just too old, into conscription. You only hear about it when Russia does and I think it's a crime no matter the side. I'm rooting for civilians when it comes to any war and both sides have committed atrocities against civilians of both countries, but Ukraine gets a pass because they're on our team all of a sudden, even though five years ago all the US/Western media said about Ukraine was they have a big nazi problem and an even bigger corruption problem. With Overlord, we had the entire Soviet army on our side (their offensive started June 21, 1944 and it remains the greatest defeat suffered by any army in history). If the German panzer divisions deployed against the Soviets in the East had instead been available in the West, we’d have gotten pushed into the English Channel. We also had total air superiority. The Ukrainians have none of that. Just some loaned western equipment and a few months training. There’s simply no comparing the combat power of the combined forces of the USA, Soviet Union and Britain circa 1944 with the meager forces (by comparison) that the Ukrainians have available.

A battalion is around 30 tanks while a brigade is about 100 tanks. Ukraine is likely using the battalion-sized Task Force/Battle Groups initially designed for recon, which explains the BFV with a T-64. by definition and according to standard TO&E, if a brigade has only 30 tanks, it is a mec/mot infantry brigade with two to five infantry battalions and an attached tank battalion with 30 tanks using the old Soviet-style TO&E of 9 to 10 tanks per each of three companies and not the western 12 to 16 tanks per company. Nonetheless, this ratio of 1 tank to five infantry bats prevents COF, is inefficient, wasteful, and is not at all good for offensive operations. I have to call total BS on this. Furthermore, it's very unlikely Ukraine is broadcasting to the Russians how they are organizing their bats into brigade-sized Battle Groups for recon and breaching operations before a major offensive begins, Comrade wannabe, please do your homework.

Fascinatingly, American football is a decent metaphor. Sometimes there's passing plays that go the distance, sometimes making the goal is a brutal struggle that slowly moves the ball forward. And sometimes the ball just can't get moved and the other side begins their counterassualf. But unlike football, where time is limited, warfare ends when one side or the other exhausts their resources and their men.

This war only makes the German war on the Eastern Front in WW2, more amazing. The distance and the speed that both sides covered was amazing. Huge sweeping Panzer thrusts, then the USSR, attacking at just the right time. No one can mass enough firepower without the other side seeing in. Satellites and drones make that impossible. One side will have to develop the means to break the link in communications of the drones. Just as in WW1, the aircraft were sent up to attack recon planes from the other side. They will have to make Hunter-Killer drones. Using AI drones released in mass with the assignment to destroy other drones. Maybe using lazers or microwave weapons to take out the drones.

Why Ukraine by definition cannot win the war. Population stats 2023 🇺🇦 Ukraine - 42,945,347 🇷🇺 Russian Federation - 144,444,359 Russia's economy now is better then before the war, and improving. The country now is on a war footing. Production of shells, missiles, armor is on a 24/7 cycle Every day about 1300 Russian men volunteer for the armed forces Russia has vast, almost limitless natural resources. More then half of the world's countries, especially the socalled Global South, do not condemn Russia's military operations in Ukraine. Therefore do not sanction Russia economically and politically. Last but not least, Russia is a nuclear super power. With an edge with respect to hypersonic weapons and ICBM's like the Sarmat-2.
