One of the things I love about this band and others like The Devil Wears Prada and August Burns Red. They are religious themselves but don't try and force it down your throat. They allow you to interpret the music how you interpret it, not just how they do. They don't sit there and say "Follow Jesus and you'll be happy" Etc etc. Because they know that not all of their fans are religious but that there are fans that love them for the respect that the bands give their fans. He's sitting here talking about what this album meant to him and how it was strongly related to religion for him but then says He doesn't want this album to be seen as just that. That's just how it was for him. How you interpret it and connect with it is up to you. One of the many reasons I love and respect bands like this.

josh phillips RIGHT as soon as people hear the instrumentals they assume it's like satanic because they're too naive to actually pay attention to the message. but if it's something stupid like Justin Bieber or Katy Perry then all of a sudden they're a "musical genius" ha no not quite.

Me being a believer in God, I wish all Christians were like this.. and I don't mean.. Identical to Matty, I just mean understanding of other people's views. Christians come off as some of the most judgmental, close minded people there are and that's because of a lot of "Christians" that represent it.. and it Gives Christianity and God such a bad reputation. To know that there are people who aren't sure if God exists that get made fun of and judged by people who are telling them they're gonna burn in hell if they don't believe.. it sickens me.. I wish everyone could be more accepting of other people's beliefs and stop bashing on people just because a difference of opinion. I have more respect for Matty than most people out there.. he's a genuine guy.. and if you disagree, I'm sorry.. this is just my opinion.

Even though I don't believe in God or religion,Matty's words & their new album really did touch me and leave me in tears.I respect Matty so much for opening up & not shoving his religion down people's throats like most religious people do.One of the reasons why Matty is such a huge inspiration to me is because he's gone through so much, but managed to get through it.Memphis may fire gives me the strength & hope to get through the day

I respect that, I agree many of us tend to try to force our beliefs on others, I apologize for that, that was never the intention of our God. We seem to have lost the message and I have many friends that are atheist who I can have deep philosophical discussions with even though i'm christian. I understand where your coming from but I hope you don't believe we're all that way

I am so beyond proud of Matty. I've heard so many artists claim they're christian yet their music and lives haven't reflected that. I love how Matty is being bold with his faith. Being a Christian myself I totally know where he's coming from and I love that he had the courage to come out with his beliefs!

There's a lot of reason for admiring this guy, but the fact that he made this last record pretty much based on his faith in God, being in such a "scene" record label, is really something brave, and now this video. I take my hat off, a lot of "christian bands" out there should take his example and stop hiding their faith just to sell more.

Divinity was definitely a song written for someone like me, I can't explain how real and how precious our time here on earth is and how we're not alone in our suffering and whatever good we're trying to accomplish. That song helped me realize that, it was like a love song written by God and sung through Matty/Memphis May Fire. I hope it saves lives, mine's been touched and I'm grateful

I believe that Matty Mullins is the depiction of what a true Christian should look like. Because, although he is imperfect, he strives to be better and to reach out to others. His goal isn't fame and fortune, it's to help people. When people think of Christians, they shouldn't think of self-righteous, judgmental, hypocrites. They should think of people like Matty. Because he's a true Christian. Humble, honest, transparent, loving, willing to admit his flaws (because everyone has them), and uses his experiences and gifts for others. He's amazing.

I honestly don't see how anyone with an ounce of decency in their bones could hate this man. I have nothing but respect for Matty. And Matty Mullins deserved my respect when he put out the song "Beneath The Skin". Definitely my favorite song off the album, musically and lyrically. Keep writing music Matty, keep inspiring others! I'm a Christian and was raised in a church scene where this wasn't acceptable music, but to me this man is the one who inspires me to get help for anxiety, to be a better person through Christ, and to never lose Faith even in the darkest hours! This guy has showed me what a true Christian should act like and what true Christianity should look like! I realize now that the way I was raised with it being more about religion was wrong! It IS all about the gospel and Jesus Christ! Jesus is quickly becoming my everything! His solo album is what got me into his stuff. Mainly the "Normal Like You" song and Memphis May Fire's "Stay The Course"! Matty Mullins truly is a Godsend! Keep it up! If you can get through to this girl than I know you can get through to others! I'm a touch case to crack! God bless you and thank you Rise Records for allowing him to be original, inspiring, a blessing, and to express his Christianity! Love you guys! Keep inspiring people to be better and not listen to the negativity! Maybe someday I'll see you guys live!!! I would love nothing more than that! I've only ever been to a WinterJam concert so maybe someday I'll make you guys my second concert ever! How awesome would that be?! :) :) :)

This guy is one solid guy. He's doing exactly what he needs to be doing and that is being a role model to the next generation or anyone who struggles with anxiety, depression or anything like that. What Matty is trying to do, is just show these kids or show people that struggle with this, that there is an answer and that answer is God. Letting go of everything you struggle with or go through and just trusting that God will be there to pull you right out or as the song says "I won't fear the fall because I know that you'll be there to catch me." Matty is giving people hope and he is showing them in a way that isn't forceful, that trusting in God's love, and the love Jesus Christ poured out on the cross for us, is indeed the answer. That's what I respect about this guy. He shows you, but doesn't tell you. He ask's but doesn't force. He truly is a Christian following the footsteps of Christ, spreading his word and loving others by reaching out to them! ROCK ON MATTY!

So much more respect for the album now. I already enjoyed it and didn't mind at all the direction it was going in. I'm not religious even though on paper I'm catholic. I never thought Matty would ever try to shove religion down someones throat and I'm glad thats still how he is. He is one of the most sincere vocalists to date. I now have an understanbding as to why the lyrics were written the way we were. I respect faith and beleifs whatever they may be. Even though some songs have lyrics involving religious words (no other way to put it) I can now look back to this and think. I may not be able to relate to them 100% but I can find my own meaning bits and pieces but I will always look back to this video. Matty Cory Jake Kellen etc, They've all been there for us countless times with other albums. I think its our turn now. I'm gonna remember this everytime I listen to anything off their new album. This made me love the album more.

I see that this was published on March 17th 2014, I saw you guys live in concert on March 18th 2014. I got to meet you guys but the one thing I remember most about that concert was when Matty was standing up on that stage and he said "this is for all of you who have ever struggled with depression and anxiety, I want you to know that you're not alone." To this day the memory gives me chills, the words brought tears to my eyes and it meant the world to me. I've struggled with depression for years and your music has truly saved me, thank you.

I watched this video when it first came out, and now I'm watching it again. it has such a different meaning to me and it is so powerful, the words he is saying. they are literally God-breathed. and just look at this. I've read almost all the comments, and it's so mind blowing that everyone commenting, is encouraging other people who are also struggling. I've never seen so many people on any form of social media, be so loving and encouraging to one another, realizing that we are not alone. we go through these things, and we go through then. together. even the non-believers can feel how powerful this message is. Matty Mullins is truly a wonderful, God-fearing man, and I'm so proud to call him my role-model.

This made me cry. Matty and Tyler Carter's stories break my heart. They are two artists so far that I've seen come out with something like this that is real or appears real. It's like they took down the "frontman" label. Took away all the glamour and "coolness" of being in a band and have shown themselves for what they are. Human. Real people. Not just the guys who go on stage and make a shit ton of money.

Rayleigh Roe I have watched this a few times in the past year and every time I watch it I end up crying. I love Matty so much! He's such a great inspiration! He's what this generation needs! The Unconditional album seriously changed my life. I've never really been a very religious person, but I've always believed in God. This album changed my perspective on life and the way I treat people. I've always been a nice person, but we all make fun occasionally. I've stopped being so quick to judge others. We are all human and we all go through different things in life. We all deserve to be accepted and loved! I think if I ever get to meet the band I'll probably cry... I hate crying, but they've changed my life so much, more than they know.

I've never honestly believed in god and in grace and religion. Although Marty is talking about God and the love of Jesus I think that there is more behind all of what he is saying. I've always been a huge fan of memphis may fire and I have no problem with him talking about God, I just think that there is more behind what he is saying then just religion and he is absolutely right in saying that we are all here for a purpose and the true meaning of this record is to help people and he has always helped people. I may not BELEIVE in love or religion but I do BELEIVE in love and only the love of others and the love for yourself can pull you through your darkest times and I think that is something Marty can clearly present and has on Unconditional.

It's been a while since this album released. I was 14 when this came out and today I'm 22. I must say I'm not going through the best time in my life and my faith has grown weak. I was looking through the old songs I collected and found No Ordinary Love in the most likely 1000+ songs and that led me this video and made me break down in tears. I felt so alone but now I know I was running away from God. I realize now I don't have to go through my struggles alone and that God is always there with unconditional love. Thank you for bringing the spark back in my faith and brining hope to my current situation. Some how it feels like a mountain has been lifted off my shoulders just after watching this video and a prayer. God bless you guys and thank you for sharing your story.

I've struggled with depression and anxiety and I still struggle with anxiety but through all of it God is always with us; you don't have to go to church to be a Christian; all you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord, that He's real, that He loves you unconditionally. Living life with Him is amazing; He is always there to lead you and guide you and help you; He can take away your anxiety, your fear, etc!

Yes!! I love it. My marriage was at rock bottom. I struggled with Pornography and had an emotional affair. This has been going on for the majority of my marriage (5 years). We were ready for divorce, My wife left me several times, we "separated" for a little bit, but nothing legal. I was so sorry... just dying, sick to my stomach from being away, begging her to come back. One day I just break down in despair asking God to save me, I repented my sins to him. That next couple of days I ask my wife if I can meet to talk. the talk went very well! We then got back together but it was pretty on edge.... So we went and saw a Spiritual Marriage counselor and they gave us lots of thinking to do, well mainly me. So I started reading the Bible after that and as I would read it, things just started to make sense, everything was coming in clear now. From that point, my whole life changed. God Is Grace Love and Mercy! God Bless.

This was published two years ago on my birthday. That was nearly my last birthday. That year in June I attempted suicide and failed I then went through the struggle of therapy and psychologists suggesting ways to get better and was told I had clinical depression. I came back to God through this struggle and found a love that I hadn't felt in years. I struggle with the concept of love. My sister tried to murder me over the course of three years when we were young and this causes flashbacks and struggles with trust but God helps me. I was told this week that my chronic illness has no treatment and I have to suffer with the pain for the rest of my life even though I'm 16. I'm on antidepressants for my depressive states and sleep as my illness causes so much pain that I can't sleep without it. I wouldn't wish anyone to have to deal with any of these things but I thank God that I did because it is through these trials and struggles that I become stronger in Him and find purpose.

No you can't relate to "Christian" lyrics because you don't truly understand them. You have to get close to something to truly understand what it is. You understand the words, that is it. You don't understand what lays underneath them for the people who try to live their lives for Christ. They mean so much to Believers than they do to other people.

How has Satan deceived you so much? I can guarantee you that the one you serve is a liar and he is the father of lies, all he is doing to you is destroying you, he comes to kill, steal and destroy and that is what he wants to do to you. I can also guarantee you that one day no matter how much money, cars, girls you may have you still will not be satisfied. Im sorry if i offended you but sometimes the truth hurts. Come to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords Jesus Christ, satan and all of his demons are under his authority. He lost to Jesus when he died on the cross and then rose again three days later, the devil will be cast into the lake of fire at the end of time and he will be tormented there day and night forever and ever. If you ever have any questions you can ask me.

these guys should look up what true satanism is, and what its beliefs are literally its all about being free and being who you are and not being stuck in a cage and manipulated by a so-called "god" don't get me wrong i don't hate on any religion but i hate it when people think others don't know anything just because of their religion.

Kudos to Matty for sharing something so personal that could potentially bring so much hate. Especially in a mainstream band. I really hope that anyone watching this who doesn't agree with his beliefs can still take away the importance of what he is saying and understand that the record isn't about shoving his beliefs down your throats. But rather it is about sharing what has helped him though his toughest times. So be thankful for the gift he is given you. Even if you don't accept it

As a fan of Memphis May Fire that doesn't believe in religion I have SO much respect for Matty for everything he has said here. The point of religion is to have something to believe in, and Matty used what he believed in to bring him out of his dark time. Some people use music, others use religion. It is truly amazing to see someone I admire talk about his way of leading himself away from the darkness and despair of such horrible illnesses. The way he talks about religion is awe inspiring in itself. I have never believed in religion and I can still give him so much credit because he is leading the way for a lot of other religious people who feel in the dark to use whatever they believe to help them overcome their struggles or even speak out to get help for it. Matty Mullins has always inspired me and now I have so much more of an understanding for him and I love it so much. I'm glad he spoke out and used his dark times as a light for others.

"I would reach out to God and I wouldn't feel anything." A few years ago I was in the same position. I was in the same position some of you may have been in. I wanted to believe in God, to be saved and have proof that He was with me, but many times I could not muster up the faith to do so. I reached out to him, and expected him to do some magical thing, like make me glow with renewal or giant rainbows to loop over the sky with my decision. Piled on top of that I had unexpected bouts of depression, was bullied and once almost committed suicide. I fought with these trials and doubts until I was 13. I was at a Christian camp. It was on Tuesday night during evening service. They preached about survival, how we need God as our guide to survive. I'd been hurting for so long, I remember. Things started to make more sense. That there was a gift I was given. All I had to do was take it. During the invitation I bawled my eyes out on the alter and handed my life over to God. I do not believe that what Matty talks about is simply a "religious speech." Christianity is not just a religion. It's a relationship. The common denominator you see in all other religions is about YOU have to do to be good enough. In Christianity it's not all about what YOU have to do, it's about what HE did FOR you. All we have to do is acknowledge what he's done, and accept his gift. That is what Matty talks about. His relationship, his guide. That is what helped him overcome depression.

in response to anyone judging christian metal heads just for being metal heads: If you were a Christian, you'd look past all the stuff your accusing them and listen to the lyrics. If you were a Christian you wouldn't judge based and silly things like scream vocals, facial expressions and the rock on sign. Those mean nothing. The words are what counts. As a matter of fact, you wouldn't judge them at all. It’s not your place. They’re still praising god in their own way. Stop judging the surface and listen to the words for once. People look at metal heads, especially Christian ones, and judge them based on their clothes, their hairstyles, their piercings, and of course, their music. They refuse to actually take a look at what they think and are saying at point the finger when they didn’t do anything wrong. Christians aren’t supposed to judge people unless they are an ACTUAL judge that took and oath on the bible itself. God said to praise him. He didn’t say how, he just said to praise him in all that you do. Yet these Christians wale on Christian metal heads because of what they look or sound like. Modern Christians are under the impression that God is all fluff and flowers and if you believe in him there will be no pain or suffering in your life. I don’t mean to be rude, but that’s total bullcrap. Utter hogwash. God himself said we would endure the MOST pain of all peoples. Yet modern church “Christians” just LOVE to make it look like nothing will ever go wrong and deny it when people say that they suffer. “You’re going through a bad phase of your life you say? WELL SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT ACCEPTING JESUS” and “the only reason you’re in pain is because you’re not a Christian” Read the bible for yourself. You’ll see that there is no reason in heaven or on earth to judge people who listen to metal and who are Christians. You want to spread hope? There are plenty of metal bands with hopeful lyrics. But one of the reason there is Christian metal is to stop the watered down, meaningless, boxed in “Christian” music these days. Christina metal lyrics make us remember our hardships so we never forget who brought us out when we needed him. They ARE about hope. And they tell truths. From what I’ve seen AND experienced, the Christian metal heads are the most devout of all.

Well, it was just Matty because he wrote all the lyrics for this record. The rest of the band probably doesn't have enough to say make a video. People need to relax. Matty even says that he is not trying to force religion or god or Jesus down the fans throats. He is simply expressing himself and sharing his experiences. I am not a believer in any way shape or form. I consider myself an Atheist. But the fact that people do believe in a higher power doesn't make them a target for internet abuse. Each to their own. Let people be who they want to be. Matty put this so beautifully and I can't wait for the record to drop.
