Two birdwatchers expected a quiet vacation taking photos of tropical wildlife, so nothing prepared them for the nightmare they experienced in Mexico. Aaron Payzant and Logan Howard were driving from Indiana to Cancun. They were on a back road looking for birds to photograph when out of nowhere, a truck raced past, and gunmen lept out and approached the car. Luckily for the Americans, the gunmen reassured them that they weren’t in danger, but warned them not to go further down the road.

Mexicans have a right to their land and their nation. They can run it how they see fit. If killing you and/or scaring you by pointing guns at your face is how they do it, and you have a problem with that... Then don't go there. That simple. But beware, Mexico is how it is because their nation is a representation of their psyche. Import them, and you'll get the same here.

even if you have a family member I wouldn't recommend it, and I'm Mexican. This guy is the nephew of a friend, (I say guy but he was like 15). He's from Chicago and went to visit family near the city my mom is from. He stayed with some family members, but I guess some family were too excited and it became known that the dude was gonna arrive there from the US. Well, he got there and was fine for a few days, but then he got kidnapped when he was with his family shopping and got shoved into a car to who knows where. Then the kidnappers called his family from Mexico and demanded his family in the US give them a few thousand dollars in a few days or they would kill him. Thankfully the dude's family was able to get the money rly fast and they were able to get him back. The same thing happened but to this other lady in my mom's town except her kid was 4. Tbh it could've been someone that knew the dude's family and planned to kidnap him.

My family from Sinaloa, and every village have people called punteros, they’re gunmen watching who comes in and out, of course this is all drug cartel related. If they see a car they don’t recognize or is suspicious they’ll stop you and question you. Honestly I’m glad they didn’t drive off, that would have sent the wrong message. Tourists really need to be careful. They honestly need to know the area they’re going into.

Cartels don't want to kill or kidnap tourists but if they find out where the main cartel attraction is, they would have to kill the tourist. The reason is that the Mexican economy heavily relies from tourists and if they keep killing tourists, the Mexican economy would cripple, same with the Cartels economy. They most likely got the tourists to get out of there as quickly as possible to avoid death.

My best advise for tourists in these situations is to keep your cool, state that you’re a foreign tourist (make sure you include your country of origin), be honest and answer every question they ask you… most of the time these criminals just want to know that you’re not a threat to their territory and will either let you go through or make you go back. Try to stay off of back unpaved roads unless you know where you going. Unfortunately this is also true for most city dweller Mexicans as well.

If Mexico got rid of their corrupt government, Mexico would be an economic powerhouse.

Honestly I’m glad you guys made it out safe. Those gunned men didn’t seem to mean any harm. They just pull over people to check them. Where I’m from we call them comunitarios, they “protect” the people. But please next time fly there,Stay safe !

@Blixy-_- Man without fail, every time someone makes a claim, no matter how small, there is always somebody who won't believe it on KZbin

@Blixy-_- But you don't need to disbelieve either 😭 dude, it doesn't hurt to believe them. What's the worst that can happen. If you believe a liar with these, they don't receive anything and you aren't hurt. If you don't believe somebody who's telling the truth, it can hurt them Of courses, with this kind of claim, it wouldn't hurt them even if you didn't believe it, but for bigger things, like rape, calling a victim who experienced it a liar can be soul shattering. Basically, to sum it up, why shouldn't you believe it? What harm would happen?
