Natalee was from Mountain Brook Alabama, I grew up in Vestavia Hills Alabama right next door. I was in third grade when all this happened. I remember for the first 3 or 4 years I heard about this case on a daily basis. Anytime a new development happened or an anniversary came around there would always be local reports whether or not there were national ones. For most of my life the name Natalee Holloway has lived rent-free in my head. I've always wondered what really happened to her and if she and I had ever cross paths even just for a second before all this happened. Van Der Sloot has lied many times, but I'm hoping now he's just gotten tired of all the games and just decided to tell the truth. Hopefully this brings some kind of closure to Natalee's family and if Natalee exists somewhere out there hopefully she's at peace. Edit: After hearing his actual confession, I do believe this is him actually admitting to killing her, but the way in which it happened sounds like another lie. What he is saying leaves no explanation for why she wasn't found. If what he's saying is true she would have been. Personally I think the evidence implied by the emails they were looking into tell a more realistic version of events.

He has lied so much I really doubt his story. Someone would have spotted a body that close to the beach. But as long as her loved ones have closure. That is all that matters.

I don’t understand why he can’t have the same done to him. Eye for an eye.

Dude killed her because he couldn’t deal with his feelings of rejection. Guys, you have to be in tune and control your emotions 😅

I believe the first part , but I don’t believe he went out a few feet in the water and let her go . Didn’t his dad and him take her out on a boat , and confirmed it in a text ? I’m glad her mom got the closure. What a burden to carry for 18 years . What a release

I fell like he's lieing just to get a deal, there is way more to it

The moment I saw his and his father's smirking faces on the news 18 years ago, I knew he did it and his dad helped him cover it up. I hope Joran van der Sloot never sees a day of freedom again. Too bad his father isn't alive to be imprisoned as an accessory. I also think Deepak and Satish Kalpoe knew more than we will ever know, or they admitted to.

We all knew 18 years ago that he did it, the proof just wasn't there. I don't believe he pushed her into the ocean.

Who knows if he’s telling the truth. That’s not the story he gave to a guy that was undercover and befriended him to ask him about it.

People who can’t control their emotions really shouldn’t free roam in the society

This guy is a compulsive liar. He probably still didn't tell the truth. He is a dangerous serial killer.

at this point it’s just a mockery when that “thing” issued an apology. in the beginning how can we even know if he’s being honest after leading the case on saying yes no yes no over and over all these nearly DECADES whether or not he did it? please ladies be careful first off never EVER go alone with someone new no matter WHAT and always be polite as possible, never know what’s going on in their head

I remember being in middle school and hearing about her disappearance. So sad she missed out on so much and will never live to her full potential because an immature boy couldn’t take no for an answer. I wish she was traveling with her family and not alone. May he rot.

Just horrific hearing what happened to that poor girl. However, I'm happy that her family, especially her mother finally knows the truth.
