Airline Passenger Criticized Fat Shamer on Flight

A woman allegedly fat shamed passengers on an airplane earlier this month and was reportedly thrown off the flight due to her rhetoric toward them. It happened before takeoff on a United Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Newark, New Jersey, on New Year's Day. Norma Rodgers, an oncology nurse, was seated next to the woman who was fat shaming her and her travel companion. “I'm stuck, but at least they'll keep me warm,” the woman could be heard saying in a video Rodgers recorded of the incident. #InsideEdition

It’s a touchy situation….once a man was in the gate I was waiting in and he was so big he could barely walk, I’d say he weighed about 800 lbs. The rude lady may have felt she had to be rude or they wouldn't move her. I never would treat people that way, though. Nah it's not understandable, she was petulant and gross and needed to be removed. Flights have removed people for less, they can remove someone who verbally abused other passengers. She could have easily flagged down a flight attendant and politely asked, but they weren't even encroaching on her space, shes just a brat who is used to throwing tantrums to get her way and uses their weight as an excuse to vent her frustrations. I experienced a similar situation to hers when I traveled to NYC on Southwest Airline last summer. Being even a slender Asian man, I felt extremely uncomfortable and somewhat suffocated when I was seated between two very fat passengers on either side. Thankfully, a flight attendant noticed my distress and assisted me. I can empathize with her; it must have been tough, especially if she was not feeling well physically at the time.

The couple should have sat together and let her have either the aisle seat or window. She was really wrong to verbally attack them but come on people, how much can be packed into those seats. That was a long flight too. I have sat by big people too and they just keep getting bigger and it is uncomfortable when they spill over onto you. Push yourself away from the table more often.
