February 5, 2015 was the day FunHaus was announced. It was my birthday in my freshman year of college. After the Inside Gaming crew left Machinima, I remember being ecstatic at the news of the new channel. To this day, it's the best random-coincidence birthday present I've ever had. Thank you Bruce and Lawrence for man years of laughs there, and for keeping the spirit alive here with Inside Games. I only wish FunHaus could have been a better work environment for the talented people there. -B

During the decline of RT, I found Funhaus and remembered Inside Gaming, and just got such a magical flashback that never seemed to end. Took a lot for me to come to terms that it all would eventually crumble. But I’m glad it happened at all.

Hearing Bruce say that RT was just a continuation of what he saw happen at G4 and Machinima kinda kills me. Cause I adored G4 and Machinima. I loved Rooster Teeth. I loved Screwattack. And all those companies are now gone. Because of bullshit corporate mergers. Who destroyed them from the top. It's wild to think about. With the industry currently downsizing on a massive scale. Maybe it's time to start small independent media companies. There's a wealth of talent out there. And all these early organizations are either fading to obscurity or dying all together.

There were SO many better series' than Demo Disk. Demo Disk I imagine was fairly easy to make into a good video, just my guess, being a random grab bag, sparking creativity no matter what you pulled out. Every week a different flavor of game. Mostly all one offs, with little investment. I applaud the series' from games which no one's ever heard of ,which they managed to keep entertaining from episode to episode. Continuing series' which stayed consistently engrossing and kept your attention.

Sounds like you're saying that since he was "happily accepting" his paychecks (or I'm assuming, continuing to work there for as long as he did) any complaints or grievances he had were likely his own fault.

If the content had been generating views, it wouldn't have gotten shut down. This includes FH. Every single major fall in viewership coincided with a core cast member leaving, and in FH case, the downward trajectory started when Bruce left and got worse with each new departure.

Gotta remember Bernie and such were already rich before they started RT. And nobody starts a company to get by, they wanted to get richer. For me, the real principle is "resources, bigger budgets ain't everything". Some of the funniest stuff was done with very little, it required creativity and that's what made it relatable too, people could see themselves doing it. The fun was within reach. It was a bunch of numbskulls just messing around. But dreaming big, while fun and great reminds me of a phrase in our culture, "remember me when you hit it big". It infers with success that perspective changes and things get lost in the mix. That ain't Rooster Teeth's fault though, the corporate overlords likely couldn't relate and understand outside of business models.

"I wish I can remember it more fondly" I feel like Lawrence's quote is definitely how I feel about the news. I grew up with Rooster Teeth, it was one of the earliest video game related media that I had watched and made me laugh. Rage Quit, Achievement Hunter, Red vs. Blue, it made primary and high school a better time, and it made my brother and I bond over Michael screaming or Geoff laughing at Gavin's stupidity over headlight fluid. But now, I can't really look back at the things I loved because when I look back, what I see or hear are either people who were poorly treated by the company or people who were part of the problem. A lot of them are unfortunately unavoidable in the videos I used to remember fondly. I do certainly hope the awesome creators, designers, coders, animators, editors, basically everyone at Rooster Teeth who was with them at the end get work and soon. They deserve it. They didn't deserve to be laid off this abruptly.

What ultimately was the nail in the coffin was what these two kept glossing over. At least to me. The pay walling of content. Removing content from KZbin, the very content that made them famous and made the icons. I don’t know if it is because they didn’t want to show how far they came or what, but restricting content to the main website, in an attempt to make more money, had the INVERSE effect of losing them money.

If RoosterTeeth could've pulled out much earlier from WB, they could've pulled a CollegeHumor and resurrected as Dropout, where they have infinitely more creative freedom. Though Dropout had to let a substantial amount of their CollegeHumor staff go, with good faith and good shoulders at the helm with Sam Reich, someone I would think Burnie Burns is like to RT, Dropout has been able to bring back those people back with their bounce back. But alas, I guess that's not happening. I have little love for core RT aside from a few people and RT animation, but I do love the Funhaus folks. Rooster Teeth was an undeniable pillar for myself as a teen. There are a handful of things that truly were the spark for my own creative spirit and aspirations. Rooster Teeth was absolutely one of them. But you guys hit the nail on the head. After November 2014, things changed. The acquisition gave so many opportunities to so many people, but it was clear that the soul of RT was slowly eroding away. Even after I stopped keeping up with RT content circa late 2015, and cut it cold turkey by 2016, I always wished for RT to succeed. To hopefully be the pillar of joy and inspiration for the next generation. It's sadly, like Burnie said, very unsurprising. For all the good they might provide, and hard work they can reward, corporate acquisitions seem to always lead to the death of beloved internet entities. Was that way for ScrewAttack, GameTrailers, Homestuck, and countless others. Those with the capital and resources, seem to rarely understand or even care for what they acquire. I can only hope we'll all be able to keep our good memories of them and their work long after they've been shut down.

I started drifting away around 2016 and it became a chore for me to keep up with them. Then it was around 2020 when I had enough. They got so bad all around. The last connection I had and hope with them was the RT podcast but they killed that too. It turned into a “let’s inject our political opinions every chance we get” and there was no flow. It felt like everyone was always trying to outdo each other and be the one. Gus would try to keep it on track and change subjects like about a Spiderman movie or something and one of them would somehow twist that into “get vaxxed and fuck trump” thing for no reason. And I’m not anti vaccine or pro trump but it got so fucking old and annoying I remember I kept track for 5 podcasts of how many times they would inject random political or woke opinions for no reason. Each episode had like a combined 20-30 minutes of random tangents. I unfollowed the show and searched for any relation channel on KZbin and unsubbed. They drifted so far away and instead of pause and fix things they thought “let’s make another podcast and another show that’s watered down” They over saturated their content and spread their efforts too thin and felt the current events trend was going to keep them relevant for a few years longer. When I stopped following them in 2020 I honestly felt my life got better. Like a weight was lifted as I finally let that part of my life go. I was into them since day 1 of their old channels and RvB. So when I cut them off it felt cathartic and good for me. Kind of like they addicted friend you help for so long then finally just cut off from your life because they refuse help or to get better.

@duckattak You hit the nail on the head. They turned me from an avid fan and supporter to someone who occasionally perused to someone who actively looked forward to the downfall because of their hatred for their supporters with differing viewpoints, including those who didn’t treat them as infallible and worship them (is it any wonder how the Ryan situation came to be when that is the type of culture and fanbase they promote and cultivate?). They got full of themselves. They thought the money and acclaim made them untouchable. They tied themselves to their politics and, when the ship started sinking, doubled down over and over again until the bank bled dry, all the while blaming everyone else and never taking a second look at themselves (or changing their tune). Regulation gameplay has been the only real semblance of a return to what made them great in years, too little too late. I’ve got no empathy for the people who contributed to the downfall. That includes people far down the totem pole. It wasn’t all due to the decisions up at the top, but was also due to the actions of those near the bottom as well. What the personalities chose to say and do of their own volition. The edits that were made. The activism. The moderation and censorship of the fanbase as well as videos. Etc. Etc. Etc. Same people doing the same things even separate from the company. No sympathy. They made their bed too. A handful I still enjoy watching and will support, but the decent video is rare these days.

I'm a little late on the news but I got very emotional seeing those clips from Funhaus through the video. I'm from Brazil, and I started watching you guys in 2015, right on my first year of high school here and I had just moved from another town and was at my worst, very very lonesome and depressed, although at the time I didn't even realise it. You guys were, through Funhaus and now Inside Games, a very important part of my cultural life, I've learned the English language through you all, I've learned american culture through you all and really I can't thank you all enough. I am now 24, just finishing Law school and working on becoming a diplomat for my country, and I wouldn't know how to write this message if I hadn't learned English throgh watching all the videos. Hope to meet you all someday, even though I'm miles away. Thank you for everything.

Not to take anything away from the great work i grew up watching, but timing really helped them. I remember early Lets Play videos looking like they underperformed when they got less than 10 million videos. 10 mil views on daily lets play videos! Thats why those swings for movies and higher production shows made sense when you had that kind of stable income. Also why acquisition seemed to make sense even though that still required some rosey rosey glasses. Demontization and competition made that business model a relic of its time and early success.

My RT memory is I saw Funhaus live once, and looking back that day was so memorable. First my friend got married in the morning, that friend passed away a few years ago and I'm happy I didn't miss her wedding. I then rushed on a boltbus down to Seattle from Vancouver with my bf at the time to catch Dude Soup live (might have been one of the firsts? I remember talking to Lawrence about how it was a great show and that they did a good job, I also remember being awestruck how pretty his partner was). My bf was not happy I was taking pictures with all of you but hey, we broke up years later but I still have the pictures from that day. So thank you for making that day even better. I'm glad you two are still making content together and I hope the rest of the team can find something they love to do with less pressure.

RvB started the year I graduated highschool. It was such amazing timing as I was a late teen to have such a perfect show like that. It reminded me of playing games with my friends. As the years went on I started to outgrow RT. I like the achievement hunter, but even that started to feel a little juvenile. I'd occasionally check on what RT was up to but I figured they weren't really making shows for my anymore. Then Funhaus came along. Right as I was "aging out" of RT, here comes this group of people that so PERFECTLY related to me and me. I've re-watched almost every single FH video from the beginning until Lawrence and Bruce left. I just want to say that period is such an amazing time capsule for me, and I appreciate everything you guys did during that time.

Whats so crazy is that these media companies never realized that they owned a built in a competitor to KZbin. Maybe a necessary restructuring or rebranding but RT website could have been a curated internet video creator platform. In a constant KZbin ad battle of ads needing KZbin but not wanting the unhinged parts of it, Warner bros had a site that could offer free content with built in advertisements for RTFirst, HBOMax shows, and they just didn't know how to package it

As much as this sucks for employees, the reality is that it wouldn't have happened if the content had been drawing an audience, and this includes FH. Funhaus lost to the tune of 80-85% of it's viewerbase, and it all coincided with core cast members leaving. That's not a coincidence. All of the other explanations like the WFH phase are frankly mental gymnastics to avoid the obvious answer.
