That Charger we restored was a '68 RT 440 #s Matching had beening sitting out in a field in Luling Texas for 6 years before he got a hold of it. Body was in fairly good shape thanks to the dry heat. The engine was not so good, sounds to me like you have no clue what your talking about. It was a great find and some good times. I find avarage cost a of a restorable car can run from 18k-2k. Anything higher pretty much needs no work or very rare.

I just saw two coming home tonight. Both of the owners know each other and cruise around town voguing. One is Black on black with black rims, its mean. The other one is Orange on black with black rims it is clean. The challenger even though built by Chrysler is one of the best looking American cars i have seen in a while. If I could afford it right now and it came with a manual I would probably buy one. Enjoy this car because the muscle car may not be around in a couple of years.

OH YOU DID? I went there in APRIL. You should have been there. I now just go to VIR every once in awhile with my brothers. When I can't make it to the track I just go to Shenandoah Valley and have some family fun. I have a MR2, my brother has a Z, and my other brother has a E46 M3. All track cars and we have so much fun. I guess it has alot to do with culture. I personally find drag to get monotonous, but if you like it by all means. you've been a respectful debater so you've earned my respect.

I think the only problem with the car is the size. I mean 4,100 lbs for a modern car and it's not a suv? Still makes me wonder though what you could do to the performance numbers with some weight reduction.

That was my point... my comment was in a response to a guy who said that the Challenger is for people that make 7 figures and they drive it while their chauffeur is on vacation. My point was that those people would probably be laughed at if they buy it. This car is actually for the nostalgic people who crave the muscle-car years and the memories associated with them, but that time is long gone. US Automakers are just not following the market.

Hey you guys from the US. First of all this Challenger kicks ass! Even if the gas price is climbing up its still much lower than in Europe. In my country the gas price is about 6.813 $/gallon. If the americans stop buying US-Cars because of the gas price I just cannot understand you. I personally drive on of your cars (a Trans Am) which makes 26miles/gallon in a country in which the gas price is twice as high as in the US. And I'm a student.

esp. w/ gas prices sky-rocketing. I'm not so sure I wanna drive a 5.0 Stang too much now. prob. gonna be a Sunday driver/track car and I'll be stickin w/ the fuel-efficient car for everyday driving. well-worth the occasional yet painful gas fill-up though

It true 440 get way up there and are rare, but youll still have a hard time spending more then 40k for a field/garage car. Then turn around and sell it for 75+ heck i just found a few seconds ago a 440 coronet for 27k for and all it needs is a road trip and interior work needs an A/C replacement thats gonna be difficult, might just need to convert it. Alot of people fall for the 383 still too.

I understand that drag isn't easy, I am just saying that if you are competing in a track race it is even harder. Have you ever driven in any SCCA events or something like it? When trying to compete whether formal or informal on a track it is much harder. heel toeing to get every single inch you can get, trying to hit your braking points, pushing you car right to the point of adhesion without over pushing it is much harder than drag racing. Also in drag it's only about 10 seconds of hard racing.

amen to that. The hemi design was actualy developed to get better fuel econemy. Old muscle cars got bad gas milage because they where carburated. The new Challenger gets less then amazizng gas milage because it weighs too much. If you put the 6.1 hemi v8 into the prius's body, the v8 would get better gas milage than the hybrid prius system could ever hope to achieve.

A lot of Brits do drive French cars, in fact nearly everyone in the UK drives a car from any other country in Europe except Britain! I drive Italian personally. Not many Brit makes left now, the ones that do still exist are awesomely fast, like the Ascari A10. BTW Koenigsegg CCX has a 4.7 litre engine yet produces 1018 BHP, imagine what they could do with an 8 litre!

@Stuurm
@Stuurm 16 жыл бұрын
The R/T will provide decent modern power with decent MPG, and have room for personal modification for increased power, if the driver is into that sort of thing. Not to mention, with the SE, you still get a real decent amount of HP with good MPG to drive daily, at a good price. People constantly compare the Challenger as a whole based off the SRT, to lesser cars on the market such as Mustang V6, or baseline Camaros. That is just silly.

I can do most of the weilding/sheet metal fabercation out of my garage... cant paint that metal though. I also cant Chrome dip it. and that can be like 40% of the Labour cost there. I can't believe the thing weighs almost as much as a Ford Explorer. And people said the GTO was heavy at 3,725 lbs.! I still love the Challenger even though it is on the hefty side and it isn't quite as qick as the 05-06 GTO. Heck, after my '04 GTO was broken in I got it to run 0-60 in 5 sec. flat. That said, the Challenger looks to be a much better overall car than the GTO.

Yea, i am talking about a completely differnt car. Not talking about my freinds Charger anymore. And yes i am talking a complete restoration of all the things that need replacing. A DIY restoration is going to be as camparable and differnt as the indivdual that does it. As much of a restoration as it would take to match the times of the new car. I dont send away to a mech when i have the know how and tools to DIY. Things i would need a mech for are axial replacement suspention bal and rep.

Not because of the awd, because of the HICAS 4ws, awd will just make you under steer. You wouldn't know though because you've probably never driven a fast car before. Hell drive a slow ass STI around a skid pad and try to say that it keeps a good skid pad because of its awd.
@98kikic
@98kikic 16 жыл бұрын
And i am not talking Super Rare Cars. Where talking about for a 440 6-pack with #s matching. A fully restored i have seen go for 75-135K but a field car never heard such a thing weither its 383 or the 440. You can also cut cost by knowing how to wield and sheet metal fabercation electronics... assembly is easy time consuming but easy. The less you rely on a mech the less the cost will be.

They did a great job but its too heavy. Either the HP needs to be bumped up to 450-475 hp with at least 450+ f/lbs of torque or they need to shave 300-400lbs off the car. A 1970 GTO 455 had 490+ f/lbs and it weighed 3600 lbs. Sounds like the powerband kicks in toward the end of the 1/4 mile since it will run 13.2's. The car should do much better with the 6 speed. Would love to see the times on the 2009 model with 6 speed.
@ozpowermo
@ozpowermo 16 жыл бұрын
The reduction of weight increases performance, we all know that's true, but the actual amount of horsepower that the engine outputs will be unchanged. When you increase the weight you don't decrease your engine's power, but you increase the amount of weight it has to push, thus decreased the performance; If your engine is sitting in a 3000 lbs or in a 4000 lbs car it still makes the same AMOUNT of horsepower. As you pointed out, getting the weight to move is a different story.

Seriously, i have been looking for a good chance to get a restorable car for about 2 years now. I have seen many field/garage cars go by Coronet Superbee's are the most expinsive i have looked for so far 20k avarage but when i look for big block Challangers and Chargers the price drops. The charger was bought for half of what my freind payed for it the OO wanted to restore it but couldnt afford the parts and time. As far as my view on it, its not more then 40k to restore a old Challanger.

Challenger is 4100 pounds :p But I would imagine, like any other Mopar it will be easy to cut that down with simple stuff like air intake and new plugs and exhaust. I have a feeling this is being built more for the driving experience rather than actual numbers, much like it's not a remake of the original but an evolution of it.
