Coming from someone who's owned both... I literally just upgraded from an SXT to an RT with the STP a few months ago after having the SXT for about 3 years. Even after getting the V8, I'm still an advocate for the V6 depending on what you want out of it. The V6 does have a good amount of power for the average daily driver and it looks great. I got so many compliments on the road when I had mine. Gas mileage was great. I used mine for the most part driving 50 miles a day to work. Even still when I stayed off the gas, I'd end up with around 29-30 highway mpg and about 20mpg on the street. I even took it to the track a few times. I will say that from a dig, especially in the 1/8th mile, you'll pull on an RT because the SXT is a few hundred pounds lighter and you hook better but once that V8 torque kicks in, it's gap city. lol. Stock, I has able to hit 14.5 quarter mile with a 5.8 0-60 time with the SXT. When I modded and 91 octane tuned mine(just bolt ons and exhaust), I was at 13.9 quarter mile at 5.2 seconds. With that said, the 5.7 is much different. First off the exhaust note is just beautiful and the increased torque makes a hell of a difference. It still has a very smooth ride but you don't feel that sort of laggy feel that the V6 has...when you press the gas, you're gone. You don't realize it until you sit behind the wheel of the RT. Alot of the time, I have to feather the pedal otherwise, my wheels chirp from a stop like crazy...which is why I said that the SXT will take an RT from a dig. MPG on the highway is usually around 27 if I'm taking it easy and on the street around 18-20. My best stock 0-60 was 4.7 seconds. I've taken the RT to the track as well. After adding the Hellcat airbox and high flow filter, exhaust and Hemifever 87 octane tune (because premium is getting expensive), I'm down to 4.4 seconds and with a 13.4 quarter mile. Sorry for the lengthy post. I hope that anyone debating on getting the 3.6 or the 5.7 reads this. There is a lot of enjoyment to be had from the V6. If it's your first car, first entry into Mopar or just a daily driver you won't be disappointed. Just try not to listen to the dickheads that say the V8 is better JUST because it's a V8. The Hemi is great but everyone might not want that at that point.

Just bought an SXT with the 3.6 V6.. Not only was it more affordable than the R/T an above, it is obviously more fuel cost efficient. It is my daily driver. I am not a super car/muscle car "enthusiast" either, but have ALWAYS thought the Challenger/Charger body styles new and old have always look INCREDIBLE and MEAN! It is a fun car to drive without draining the bank account in monthly payments and fuel costs. Highly recommend.

My first non V8 car in 50 years - A SXT with the track Pack option, ZF 8 Speed Transmission ( bigger brakes, 3.07 posi rear and stiffer suspension) I get 23 mpg and this car is fast, It waits for no body, I have let a couple of my friends drive it. They all thought it was a V8. I don't race it, It has great passing power on the highway and It has great pickup off the line. Jesse Deck fr tho 😂 honestly it’s best to not touch the exhaust on those v6’s. Stock exhaust sounds the best but some v6 owners just want sound so they mid muffler delete or god forbid straight pipe these v6 challengers. If you wanted sound then just spend the extra 4 grand and get a slightly used v8 🤷‍♂️. I too have a 2013 R/T, base model, Bright White, 6 speed. Bought it new in Nov '12 for $28,500 out the door. It is my "toy". Bought it as a retirement gift to myself. Love it and have no complaints! I don't thrash or abuse it. It has enough power to be fun to drive and I don't have to ever nail the throttle hard for power. Furthermore, it is very insurable at $65 mo for full coverage. For those that are concerned for fuel economy, I live in the country so my mileage is affected by a better balance between country and city, since I don't spend a lot of time in the city. I get a combined figure averaging 21-22 mpg. I have conducted fuel economy tests and these are my figures: Cruising on the highway @ 70 = 27 mpg, @65 = 28 mpg, @55 = 33 mpg. Engine rpm's at 70 mph in 6th gear = 1650-1700 rpms! I spent 3-4 months before purchase, just reflecting on what I was sure I wanted and I am very happy with mine. I was a Mustang/Cougar fan for decades, hopping them up and even building engines, but I always loved the looks of the '70 Challenger R/T.

@@toddlehman1 @Craig Àgreed! Back in the old days I think, there I was a 318 engine and also possibly a slant 6 available in the Challenger. I think the largest issue with the SXT and GT are that people think they are slow, and I think the reason is because the original 2009 Challenger SE with the 3.5l V6 was not a fast car (I won't say it's slow, but it's for sure not fast) and people still think of those cars when they think V6 Challenger. The SXT runs mid 14 second 1/4 miles, that's not bad for $30K and 4000lbs. Sure there is a Japanese V6 sedan that is a bit faster, but my Scat Pack is faster than those, so there is always a faster car. The SXT/GT is fast enough IMO. For a DD they are great cars.
@Fade2BlackSS
@Fade2BlackSS 4 жыл бұрын
Facts, the older model SE's were pretty bad. I think they only made around 240hp or something like that. The newer ones with the A8 and 3.07 gearing aren't bad at all. V6 muscle cars just get a bad rep all around though. Camaro and Mustang guys get it too.

After owning my V6 Chrysler 300 S for a year, I can confidently say I'd opt for the V6 every time. Currently pushing 349hp and 290lbs/ft with: 91 custom dyno tune, AFE Power intake, custom tube making use of the charger/challenger ram air hole in the airbox, ported hemi throttle body, PUG lower intake manifold, 8-hole fuel injectors from FWD Pentastars (atomizes better, unproven gains though), freer flowing dual exhaust using 2 27" glass packs and 2 12" vibrant resonators (for once this actually sounds good), and I swapped the rear end from a Scat Pack so I have a 3.09 LSD and respective axles. She scoots. I'm not even done yet! I can't wait to finish my list and get re-tuned and hit a drag strip/track, but what's next on the list is an Unorthodox Racing lightweight crank pulley that unfortunately is rarely available but makes a decent difference, alternator pulley as well but that's bottom of the list as it's expensive for maybe 1hp and 1-2lbs torque, high discharge ignition coils, bigger brakes cuz those are still stock for some reason, and eventually a supercharger. Likely RIPP, possibly Sprintex, undecided and it's at least 1-2 years away. As the list stands, without the super charger, I'm hoping for at MAX 370hp and 310lbs/ft. Each mod should scale the effectiveness of those before it, so that's my goal. I'm also ready to accept 360hp and 300lbs/ft. Supercharger WILL make my ultimate power goal, no higher than 480whp. I can't remember my torque limit, but the engine is strong however the transmission is the weakest link. I know of a youtuber that's broken 2 going higher than that. I know it was in the mid to high 500's but I'm playing it safe. Moral of the story is I get 31mpg and hurt people's feelings at the same time.

Couldn't agree more with your "solid, nice driving car" assessment. I have a 2016 Challenger SXT with 50,000 trouble free miles on it. And I've enjoyed putting every single one of those miles on. This car is absolutely the best long distance road runner I've ever owned. The Pentastar and 8 speed eat up the miles effortlessly, delivering 30+ hwy mpg, and I never get tired behind the wheel. Just an awesome, great looking, comfortable ride. As others here have mentioned, the Pentastar's 305 hp is more than most muscle cars had back in the day.
@MWRW
@MWRW 4 жыл бұрын
Even with 305hp, the car still feels slow pulling all that weight. I put some Firehawk Indy 500s on mine, and it NEVER slips, even under full throttle. Definitely could use a little more power.

PEOPLE TELL me all the time "u shoulda got a scat pack or hell-cat" where in the f can i justify spending all THAT extra MONEY for power u can't use on a daily drive? that dam sxt HAS enuff power and looks just as good without all that extra money for payments and let's not talk about insurance

Most of the people who talk down on v6's are former v6 owners who upgraded to v8's, or people who don't even know about these cars. If you look at it completely neutral, the v6 is not a bad car at all. Of course a v8 is faster and louder than a v6, but then there's also a bigger, faster, louder v8 than the one you have. As long as your car make you happy, that's all that really matters.

I rented an SXT challenger for a trip to Florida in 2018 which started a love affair for Dodge. A few weeks later I bought a Charger SXT and had it for 1.5 years until a kid hit us head on at about 60 mph. We walked away from it relatively unscathed. On the side of the highway my wife and I were like we gotta get another charger. It saved our lives undoubtedly. We bought an R/T charger in 2019 and then upgraded to a 2021 Scat pack widebody challenger and it has been amazing. Didn’t matter the trim level, they are all fun! Love your content racerx!

This is great! I have a 2019 Challenger V6 I bought a few months back, and it's actually my first muscle/mopar car (I came from a fiat 500). I love this car, and shove off those who say that "V8's are the real muscle cars"... yes, they may have more power than the V6, but the pentastar is a powerful engine within itself. Don't be discouraged when someone says that V6's suck. V6's are the perfect balance in looks, performance, and daily driving with good gas mileage despite being a muscle car. And with 305hp compared to 101hp (from the fiat), This SXT is the reason why I suddenly fell in love with Dodge, and the Challenger family. It can gunshow (to an extent), and is an excellent starter/affordable muscle car. The handling is surprisingly smooth too! It's ultimately up to you to decide if you should get, upgrade, mod, or buy something other than a V6, but these cars along with the bigger ones will remain timeless, and age pretty well.

I own a 2017 SXT Plus with Super Track Pack in Go Mango- essentially a fully loaded v6. Best car I ever had, truly love it and not an issue so far in 32k miles. Im a working class guy, and its my daily driver. Still get multiple compliments weekly from complete strangers. The leather interior is very attractive and the seats are super comfortable. Fuel economy is good, the 8.4 infotainment works fine. Ive had the car up to 136mph where it seemed to top out. Acceleration is fine for me especialy in sport mode. The car is simply drop dead gorgeous and to this day puts a smile on my face every single day. For a person in my position it was the right choice. Would I prefer the V8? Sure, but only in the sense that we always "want" more than what we have. Dont you think a 5.7 guy would prefer a scat. And after awhile doesnt the scat driver envy the hellcat??? And on and on... Considering that 90% of driving is under 45mph the V6, especially when well equipped, makes a compelling case... At any rate all of us MOPAR ppl should stay positive and support each other, happy driving!

Although I absolutely love my Hemi, and all the modern Hemi's for that matter, Dodge did an awesome job with the 3.6. I have the same engine in my Wrangler and it's a great motor! It might not have the snappy torque of it's bigger brothers, it's still decently powered and makes the car fun to drive. If you think about it, the entry level 305 hp V6 is making around what some of the high trim level muscle cars were making back in the day for power. A little lighter on torque, but none the less still impressive.

I feel like a lot of V8 fanboys forgot about how the same power the modern V6 is making was what V8's made back in the day if they actually knew that information and not go after the car they can barely drive or just feel they need to show off lol. I'm sure the aesthetics of having a V8 is nice, but I wouldn't personally own one by a long shot. I need reliability, but also enough speed for me to enjoy the ride.

Great review. I will share my personal experience. My wife currently drives a 18 SXT Plus (like you test drove but in silver) and I used to have a 13 RT Charger. Besides the obviously lovely V8 rumble the only real difference between the 2 for me was when you floored the gas at speed. The RT definitely pushed you back in the seat where the SXT doesn't. Off the line they honestly felt very similar. Now mine had the old trans and not the new 8sp so that definitely helped the V6 feel fast off the line. She is currently wanting to upgrade her car but it would have to be a ScatPack cause to me the RT just isn't enough of a difference to me to justify the price difference. Your review pretty much says the same thing but if someone doesn't need the power it's hard to beat the MPG the V6 gives you .

Excellent video, very accurate. I have owned the V-6, the R/T Hemi and my son owns a Scat Pack, so I have driven all three extensively. The V-6, before the Hemi was a nice ride, surprisingly quick and super dependable getting 32 mpg driving from NY to Florida. Drove the Scat Pack, as stated a really fast car, it thrilled me. But I wanted a bit less and I got the R/T and boy did I choose well. The R/T in my opinion is very fast, pulls like crazy upstairs sound awesome and handles really good. But unlike the Scat Pack, it has cylinder shut off at highway speed, takes mid grade fuel and gets 25 mpg. It is so much fun. My first advice, buy a Challenger, it is just the best car for the money out there including high end imports. Second advice, if you want a beast, get a Scat Pack. If you want a tamer beast buy the R/T it’s an 80% Scat Pack with some compelling differences for average performance drivers like me. You got it spot on in your review.

(Prefer my 73 Duster still) SXT -Better gas mileage -V6 longer longevity (HEMI crank shaft issues) -pretty cheap(cheaper than mustang and camaro) -8 speed automatic transmission - full rear passenger seating R/T -HEMI -economy mode available with VVT(4 cylinder while cruising) -better resale value - trim options for classic look(shaker, T/A) -more bang for you buck

I have the 300hp v-6 in my Chrysler 300C, and I added a K&N Typhoon air intake which really woke this engine up! The biggest gain was the throttle response and torque, not to mention the great sound ! My car sounds more like a V-8 yet still gets close to 31mpg on long road trips. I love my V6 Challenger so much. I got my Challenger back in July of 2019. I needed a better highway and city car because my 2007 Jeep Wrangler would death wobble above 60mph and driving a manual Jeep in city traffic was purely stressful, it truly belonged on rural roads and as an off roader. I wanted a V8 but coming from a Wrangler that makes 200hp, I knew I was going to end up killing myself getting behind the wheel plus the insurance for 21 year old me and repair costs would truly burn a hole in my wallet. You won't be winning any races but the 3.6 pentastar is still plenty for passing and highway on ramp power and is faster than most cars on the road. I always tell everyone who wants to join the muscle car community to start off with a V6 (with the exception if you know what you're doing) then work your way up.

I have the 3.6 pentastar in my two door, Chrysler 200 and it seems fairly comparable to the Challenger sxt. even thought The 2012 200 only gets 283hp it still has Plenty of power for the highway. It was the most powerful midsize sedan that year. Even The way the modern Challenger is styled like a '60s model with a plastic bumper instead of chrome, is the way the 2 door 200 is modeled after the '62 300. I think the 6 cylinder engine is the Goldilocks engine. When i go around corners in a 4 cylinder, i often get jolted by gear changes mid turn. In a 6, that usually never happens, And I'd chirp tires in an 8.

I've had my 2011 v6 since 2013 and love it. It has enough power to get out of it's own way and is plenty for me not to mention most people can't even tell the difference. Besides, I know what I would do with anything more and this keeps me honest.

I test drove an SXT because it was a lot cheaper than my SRT 392 and got way better mileage, and I was pleasantly surprised! It has more getup than people give it credit for and it sounds good for a V6. But I knew in my heart of hearts, that I would not be satisfied without that big rumbly V8 in my SRT 392

I usually get bored listing to people talk about cars and give up halfway through the video. You are great to listen to and love the comparisons and watch the whole video. I have a 2016 5.7 RT plus in New Zealand and love it. We have a lot more WRX turbos here. I actually drive a legacy daily. Almost and WRX STI 😆

At the end of the day get the Trim that is convenient for you. If you get a V6 people will be like “why not get a 5.7 it’s not that much more” if you get a 5.7 they will be like “why not get the scat” if you get a scat they will be like “you should’ve saved up for a hellcat” lol it goes on and on. I got a 2018 fully loaded RT and I love it. I put almost 15k likes in a year because I drive it to work and back. It’s not bad on gas tbh so that’s not a problem and I never had a problem with it.

Its depends what u want. If u want to actually RACE your car and go out on the weekends and race on the highway againsts fast cars then yes get a scatpack at least. If you just want something quick with plenty of power for daily driving get the 5.7. Id you ever wanted more power from your 5.7 just get full bolts and tune.

I have the 2018 GT Challenger. I love it, the power it puts out is enough for me without going into higher price. I've done 120mph and it was still a smooth ride not rough at all. Definitely enough get up and go without going to the V8. Have had a lot of fun in my baby and plan to continue having fun with it.
