I feel so bad for what they went through. If they hadn't created the podcast about OTH I'd still think they hated the show. That makes it easier for us fans to still support it and rewatch it. They have good memories too despite Mark.

That's exactly how I've felt! The show meant so much to me when I was in HS and when I heard of all the horrible things ***** did I got so upset and felt like I couldn't rewatch it or it somehow had to mean less now because I adore these women so much (they're literally part of the reason the show meant so much to me) and I felt so terrible for what they had to go through. It felt really nice to listen to the podcast and listen to their actual stories and that despite it all they had good memories on it.

@@annarother7085 That sentence where you talk about what it meant to you growing up, that's probably the other big reason they'll always love the show aside from the bond they had with their fellow cast and crew. They know their show helped a generation of kids realize they weren't alone in their struggle to grow up and come of age. The fan support gave them strength through their experiences working with that asshole the same way the show helped you as a kid.

For me the weirdest thing is, I only started watching the show early last year, and then not long after I saw all this shit come up, and it was weird watching it at the same time as knowing what happened to them in real life. So glad these guys are getting exposed. Sad to think there's been so many victims of this shit for so long in the industry.

He didn't want them to be comparing notes about him - what he's done to who, etc. Classic psychopathic and abuser behavior. I am rewatching One Tree Hill not for him but for the cast and crew. I am rewatching because it got me through tough times in my life and revisiting these characters heals me somehow.

The older shows have this cozy feeling about them. I only started watching the show early last year. I've re-watched other old shows for that cozy feeling, like Charmed and Gilmore Girls. Or maybe it's just because they remind us of times when we were young watching the shows.

Sophia has such a beautiful fascinating and emotive voice. Her acting through voice alone always really impressed me. The way it breaks at points used to literally move me to tears, her use of tone… She’s still as stunning as she was like fifteen years ago when I was watching the show- She always seems to genuine and sweet. not in Hollywood but i seen it first hand on a ultra small indie film i sadly produced. the director and writer really came off as a creep and only was fixated on the sexual aspects of the film. the man actor was almost naked for 90 percent of the film maybe 95 percent and it was really sexual in nature. it felt like his own personal sexual fantasy and i got really uncomfortable. and i ended the business relationship as quickly as i could. but i remember the actress actually saying she doesn't think she wants her family to see it especially her grand mother due to the sexual nature. its really hard you're so passionate you wanna make it in the industry and you almost feel forced to do things outside of your comfort level for that chance that this is the one that will get you notice. cant even imagine what those women faced and men as well but more so the women. alot of people say why didnt they just quit or talked out sooner and its not that simple. we need more people like Sophia Bush to stand up and fight this. so many people stay quiet cause they wanna make it so they dont sell it they keep their heads down and take it. another show she was in Chicago PD she talked about the harsh working conditions and some of the male people on the show and she left. even though the show was hugely popular and im sure she was making decent money from it she took the high ground and put her foot down and left.

@@alycia4668 Maybe the actresses kept quiet because of the additional abuse they would get from the public at large. Women too often get called liars even when accusing someone of ill repute. I loved one tree hill, but when I started watching the show back in 2009 I was the same age as the main characters, but I always thought it was weird how Peyton a 15/16/17? year-old came out of Nathans shower in a towel and said Hi to Mr. Scott. Like I thought a lot of the show overly sexualised teens - essentially children - and really normalised that kind of behaviour. And then to years later hear that Hilary felt weird about those scenes as well ...

As someone who watched the show in my teens and early 20s, when I would visit TelevisionWithoutPity boards at the time, everyone there knew Mark Schwahn was super creepy even without knowing the details. @lucashenderson2775
@lucashenderson2775 3 жыл бұрын
Yup. Which is why Hilarie left the show the first chance she got, after Season 6. One of the stories I heard was that they shot an episode in Texas because a town had won a contest where they'd shoot an episode there and in the car on the way back to Wilmington after landing, he forced himself on her and that was one of the breaking point incidents that pushed her to leave. There was another thing I heard that Danneel was harassed so badly to the point that when there was a time where Supernatural was on hiatus but OTH was still filming, Jensen lived with her for a month until he had to go back to Vancouver for Supernatural and nearly got into a fight with Mark because of Mark's behavior. Also, Danneel agreed to return in Season 7 for the Rachel and Dan getting married storyline because she saw that she would work in a lot of scenes with Paul Johansson and Paul was known on set for being protective of the women and confronting Mark multiple times about his behavior publicly towards the women of the cast and crew, and felt safe with him as a result.

I liked the stories and the performances given by the actors combined with the sports aspect. It's heart breaking to learn that Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Lenz, and Hilarie Burton and all the women on the show had to deal with Mark Schwann and his abusive behavior. They didn't deserve that at all. I think it's great that they can be open with their experiences to share what happened and help others. Interesting though, I feel like the things Sophia points out are disgusting and abhorrent (like pitting the actresses against each other, or putting up their underwear photos in his office) but they would be hard to prosecute. Incidentally, OTH was initially (and intentionally) created by Schwahn to be told from a male perspective (the two sons fighting for their father's affections, etc.) and ALL the females were supposed to always be, to use an old word for it, "sidepieces" and generally unimportant to the main subject(s) at hand. Ironically, it wasn't until Sophia's character was the breakout that OTH became a success (in the classic, pre social media sense)...and it's additionally ironic that Sophia would reference Friends, because that show didn't become (in my humble and modest opinion) until Lisa Kudrow's character became the breakout there. And...I feel there is more than a little bit of Brooke in Phoebe (and vice versa), plus both actresses respectively have always been supportive of their castmates both on and off screen, and NEVER thought of themselves as the star of their shows.

There's such a huge problem with the fact that these assaults haven't resulted in criminal prosecution. This is so frustrating and sad to hear. I remember watching the first episode of OTH (ultimately I was a fan and watched the whole series), and it felt off. I was a huge Dawson's Creek fan and I just felt like there was a weird over-sexualized vibe immediately. Not that that makes it ok, it doesn't, but it's a whole other level of creepiness to do this to principal cast members. No one, in a position of authority, should consider their employees their personal "dating pool". The creepiness can go both ways. I haven't watched OTH since it first aired and now, I don't even know or think I could watch it now knowing how gross and terrible the creator was. I do remember thinking back then that it seemed the women were pit against each other (like Hilary, Sophia, and Danneel would be in magazines and Joy wasn't) and I thought that might be a hit to one's confidence or esteem or be ostracizing. The absolute brightside of that show for me was Brooke's character development and Haley & Nathan's relationship. The school shooting and aftermath episodes were poignant too. I really hated/disliked Lucas/ Lucas & Peyton's relationship. I never liked how he treated the women in his life and yet he was always looked at as if he was the heroic character. In my perfect world, Peyton might've ended up with Jake (I say might because who knows if they would've stayed together but they would've been together way longer than what happened in the show) Now with some time away and how society talks more about toxic relationships, he definitely seems like an example of a culture of men behind the scenes writing the stories.
