Erica Durance (Smallville, Saving Hope) joins me this week to share the anxiety and stress of going behind the scenes working in casting to in front of the camera on Smallville.
Erica opens up on the different ways that she’s felt that she didn’t belong both in her personal and professional life.
We also get into her thoughts and experience with postpartum, different tools to overcome anxiety, and her opinions on the Arrowverse.

@@daqueda1577 no. Clark does show interest to chole but even that feels like producers wanting to spice things up inbetween clark and lana drama. In fact, my second pick is Alicia Baker (the teleporting girl) and I'd love it if she had ended up with Clark. But no, not Chloe.
@L18ola

@@ahmetrefikeryilmaz4432 they made Lana poison because it was a throwback to the pilot, where Clark couldn’t approach her either because of the necklace. They even bring up the necklace in the episode. Clark dusted himself off and moved on. He literally had the legion ring in the barn which they showed him using an episode after. That’s either on purpose or a major plot hole. They gave this arc to Kristin kreuk as a send off, because she wanted her character going out as a hero.

Up until Michael playing Lex, I never liked Lex in comics or Superman movies. Lex was always just a really cheesy villain to me. Smallville was the first time I saw more sides to Lex, and my favorite episodes have Lex in them. I don't know what Michael thinks of that role overall, but for me, it was amazing. I STILL tell people to go watch his Lex Luthor because it was just so damn good. When you had Lex and Clark in scenes together, that's when you saw the heart of the show.

Lois Lane the character was so incredibly influential in my life, esp early Lois in seasons 4-6, in helping me find my own sense of style and humor, and start being comfortable in my own skin -- and now, seeing the actress behind the character, I feel she's even more awesome, and is exactly the kind of person I wish I could have a friend. I kind of grew up with her from being a student to a young working woman at the same time as her on the show so she reminds me of good old times ! I really loved her badass side, as a girl she was just a cool role model for me as I was studying journalism too. Erica Durance is an amazing actress I wish we could see her more on screen, we don't hear much about her on mainstream medias maybe it's her choice but I'm really glad you bring her on your podcast, I just saw her name I clicked right away 🤣 and it's 3 am in France right now 😁 love your podcast by the way !

This was my favorite interview yet. I binged all of Smallville just now, and have a small void in my heart now that it's over. I remember watching it a bit as a kid but had no idea it went beyond Clark's High School years. I'm so glad I got to watch them all...almost 10 years later but still such a good show. The casting for that show was superb. Especially Erica, her Lois was the best portrayal yet, and she is so so beautiful. It makes me sad that she felt like an outsider and didn't feel as attractive as Tom and Kristen when first starting the show. Because she was definitely on their level (or above in my opinion). P.S. since I just watched it and it's fresh in my head, I do believe her first lines were when she was driving a car, talking about quitting smoking to herself and then sees Clark naked in a field. (They probably could have found a better way to introduce her but it worked in it's own humorous way). And Michael, not to be creepy, but if anyone could make bald Lex look good, it's you. You should give yourself more credit, because there's a reason people rate you as their favorite Lex Luthor, and it's not just the acting. You made that look your bitch. Love you, dude. I'm so glad I found this podcast, but I like the videos better because you can see your faces. P.S. I can't believe Erica is 42 she looks the same as when she played Lois! Can't say the same for Tom W.

This is the amazing thing about human nature - Erica Durance is still so beautiful, and she nailed Lois Lane in Smallville. Yet to hear that she basically didn't think she was good enough or attractive enough to be on the show compared to Tom and Kristen. I mean you have so many regular people out there that think they're so special just because of how they look or personality they have. Then you have Erica who is beautiful and basically a complete package and she basically doesn't get it. I like her and appreciate her role even more in Smallville from this podcast.

The reason you can easily recall bad memories is because it’s your brain protecting you from feeling that way again... sort of like a defense mechanism. This was one of my favorite interviews. You really talked about everything, and there was so much substance. Most interviews, they ask all the same questions over and over. When you follow a specific artist, you start to get bored watching their interviews because you already know what’s going to be asked, and what they’re going to answer. Thank you both for being so open and honest. I love you, I love Smallville, and I love this podcast! Keep up the awesome work! ❤️

"Thanks Lois. You know, there's nothing more valuable than the savvy political advice of a muffin peddling college dropout. Speaking of do you have banana blueberry today?" Watching you two spar on Smallville was a treat. Thanks for the interview!

Wow, Michael and Erica literally hit exactly how I feel with anxiety as well. I feel everything needs to be done on the list or at work and if I don't get it completed, I freak out. Thank you for addressing this issue and for bring this situation to light even more! Thank you also Michael and Erica for being the best version of Lex and Lois!

You evidently won’t see this comment, but I would like to say that smallville has become really important part in hard period of my life. I started to watch the series when my farther left me. My mother was trying to earn money for living, we didn’t have our own house. It could turn around to be one of the awful time, but there were some elements which made everything better. One of those things is the story of two friends struggling with problems in family. You and Tom were an example and inspiration. Thank you very much for such remarkable depiction of the character

I'm only 12 minutes into this and Erica you're absolutely amazing. The stuff you're mentioning about feeling anxious and keeping busy is so relatable as a woman and a mother. I so admire this because it makes you human like me and others who go through these thoughts on a daily basis 💜💜💜

I'm actually shocked that Michael Rosenbaum and Erica Durance never received an Emmy Award for Smallville and were never casted in alot of action, drama, and comedy movies!

When smallville started it was a story of Clark growing up and his character ark into being the man of steel. But several seasons in his personality was set and it was just about getting the experience and confidence to become that person. The second half of the show even if it didn't always revolve around her really was about Lois's Character Ark in becoming the person she needed to be to be Superman's mate and I don't think anyone could have potrayed it better than Erica did. She was amazing on the show and while I was already in love with the show before she joined, and with the way she started I wasn't sure if I was going to like her as Lois. She honestly was the heart of the second half of the show.

Really wish they’d do a Smallville 2.0 - but have it be Clark & Lois raising their daughters and dealing with the parenting stresses that Martha & Jonathan experienced. Lex and his political career could be highlighted, different DC characters could come and go. A whole new generation but keeping us OG Smallville fans happy too 🥰
