I've read some comments that this is not PoS at all, but the lyrics of the song and the other 2 singles relate to each other. Those songs reflect the struggle of a person that is not "normal" to strive and be accepted in the society, that over and over tries to normalize them with medication and therapy so they fit the "standards". In a musical level, Daniel and the band might be going in a different direction with the electronic sounds, but that is what prog music is, doesn't it? I am gonna wait to hear the full album first when it's released and then make up my mind if I like it or not. PoS never disappoints anyway hehe.

I've never been a fan of electronic music. When the song started I thought: "I'm not gonna like this. This is way too electronic for me". Then I continued listening and I couldn't but love the song. There's just something about this song (and all the songs released so far) that hits me hard. Even though I don't like rap or hip hop very much, and I don't like electronic music, and I enjoy guitars as much as the next guy (I play guitar myself), this and the other songs reach me so effortlessly. But music has always been like this: It's not about the pieces, it's about how you put them together, and Daniel and the guys are masters at this craft.

Having listened to PoS for the better part of two decades, I can say that much of their work has been a grower for me. It takes time to process their songs and concepts, for sure. It was most definitely a grower for me. I get choked up when listening to this album but can't quite put a finger on exactly why. The power of music is sometimes inexplicable. Although one line in particular is clear and it brings me to tears: "And outside there's a world on fire, and you're still debating, while the flames run higher and higher, incinerating..." For me it symbolizes the terrible fires in the Amazon, Australia and the west coast of the US burning billions of animals to death. I can't even type that without tearing up. :(

Now, I've heard all the album, and I just feel how perfectly this song fits as the title song for such a masterpiece. Mindblowing
@jorgemendoncajunior69614 жыл бұрын
I think that there is an interesting problem in fans' judgment of the quality of an artist's new work. Consider positive reactions, first. When fans react positively to a piece of art by an artist they like, it is really difficult to distinguish what is due to the work and what is due to their affective connection with the artist. I mean, would these fans saying this song is awesome have similar reaction listening to this song played by another band? I know I wouldn't. Consider the negative reactions, now. When fans dislike a piece of artists they like, chances are that this is not only due to a genuine reaction to the work, but the frustration that follows from the artist's creation not filling their expectations. I would say that most fans of PoS prefer Remedy Lane and Perfect Element style over Scarsick, for example. Here we see a very Scarsick vibe, and we can react negatively precisely for the unmatch between our expectations, which could be problematic, for it is kinda putting a limitation over the artists' creative process (think about Kiss, for example, that has been doing the exact same thing since the 19th century - they are pretty much restricted by their fans in this sense). Anyway, I don't know whether we are ever free to evaluate a piece of art independently from these arbitrary dispositions towards the artists, but, certainly, there is a tradeoff between doing what your fans want and following your creativity freely. I think PoS just allow their 'creativity' to flow freely, assuming their fans would be elevated enough to acknowledge the merits of doing so. Personally, I appreciate their artistic freedom. But I can't avoid the frustration listening to something so far from that which has made me love PoS.
@giuliocaroletti4 жыл бұрын
Interesting thougths and ideas, and I agree with your theoretical approach. Personally, though I love the first era of PoS like anybody else, I liked "Scarsick" very much. Not the "Road Salt" albums; but I liked "In the passing light of day" well enough. More than the style or arrangements, what I feel is a bit lacking is cool melodic ideas that can lift the song. At first listen, at least. In general I am an album type and not a single type, so I prefer to be immersed in an album atmosphere, where I can get in tune, in resonance with the music at some point, it generally helps to enjoy things I am not so used to.
@SamBrem764 жыл бұрын
I agree with both of you. And I can't say I really appreciate the 3 singles from this new album. I find they give in many of their characteristic traits trying to be more and more peculiar album by album. This sounds not always so good to my ears. I abandoned PoS after Remedy Lane (I bought the albums but I gave up after 5 or 6 listenings). I really appreciate In the passing light of day instead. I don't know but I'm still hoping there's more than electronic and hip-hop in this last album but every new single they publish my hopes waver

That's a very nice way of saying that this is trash and borderline unlistenable. Everyone wants to use the "artistic" augment, and that's fine, to each his own. But this borders on active trolling, which is a vibe I've gotten from PoS in the past. It's the type of arrogant pseudointellectual crap that Gildenlow has been putting out for years. When I was an emotional college kid it hit me, but it's just boring now, and there's very little going on musically to hold me. Harmonically it's simplistic, the over reliance on programming has been done, and the instrumentation doesn't show any mastery even though I know they have it.
@giuliocaroletti4 жыл бұрын
@@DCJayhawk57 I think your opinion is marred by being too angry at PoS. It's not trash and not unlistenable, this track definitely has no 'dangerous', 'avantgarde' or 'violent' edge. It's fairly unoffensive, in fact, melodically simple and not so intriguing, that's all. The other two tracks are better, although they are far from being exceptional, but I wouldn't say they are bad at all. Posturing and trolling from PoS has been there from day 1, like from a lot of prog/prog metal bands. It's when substance lacks behind the form that the trouble arises. Here, the form is not so bad or uninteresting, but strong melodies and hooks are missing - and solos, but that might just be me.

When you own a brand and have musicians at your disposal who know you well as you are and thus respect you, you can take your band to the direction you want. Do they think that Daniel doesn't know the music business? He owns the PoS brand, and if he wants to implement trap as a resource he would do it and still have good taste. And I think he was aware that most of the purists of the genre would not like the direction this album took. Still he did. that's having an open mind

What a masterpiece. So many well thought and perfected details with outstanding musicality and feeling. Also virtuoso singing. Congratulations for continuously evolving and doing what is exciting to you!

Not to mention, the production on this song.. most of the time when metal bands try to pull off electronic stuff it is garbage cuz they don’t know how to mix and produce it.. this shit is super well written and produced

C'est leur meilleur album depuis Be. Original, abouti, prog et métal. Rien à battre des coms qui chouinent c'était mieux avant : restez sur votre parking et laissez nous apprécier l'inventivité. Their best album since Be. Unusual, accomplished, prog and metal. Nothing to do with the 'good old days" comments below : stay on you're parking spot and let us appreciate creativity.

Best music video I've seen where everyone is socially distant and wearing masks.
