Same here. Already stumbled upon John Mitchell before because of his Nostalgia Factory cover, but apparently didn't pay enough attention to the rest of his discography. Already blown away by several other songs, including "Inside this Machine" and "How Bright is the Sun?"

this is one of those “once in a lifetime” tunes that will haunt you forever. everything about this is near perfect and polished. amazing structure, amazing vocals, amazing concept and amazing lyrics. if steven wilson felt so compelled to cover this, then one just knows it is going to be something very special. which of course it is. hope you read this and if so, thank you john mitchell - this is truly a wonderful masterpiece and it has profoundly touched me

It has indeed. I never listened to any of John Mitchell's work and now I'm like addicted. What a singer, what a guitarist and melodist. His voice reminds me so much of Peter Gabriel. But this track in particular goes deep in my head and my heart. Just today I've played it like 10+ times :-)

Saw John Mitchell live with ARENA two years ago. His guitar playing was THE highlight of the show! Absolutely admirable - although he doesn't like RUSH (and I'm a huge fan). Maybe explains his facial expression when I made a photo with him - I was wearing my Clockwork Angels tour shirt that day. 😉

Life is a reflection of time and consciousness...our moments are very brief, yet long lasting at the same time...death is but a dream within a dream as are our moments here on earth. You can never lose a loved one so long as you remember those special moments…they are always with you in mind thought and spirit. Great video / song, very well done. Will share with my network and add to the World United Music blog playlists.

I believe that SW used JM's original recorded tracks (with permission) as the starting point for his version - there's no point trying to recreate perfection.
@lordlucan19693 жыл бұрын
@@ianf-barker5552 i think you are correct because the two are virtually identical apart from wilson's shoegazer guitar solo and a few additional bits in the background - its a perfect piece - nearly everything about it is just great. Cant believe its three years old and it never made an impact - thats a crime
