Hi, Bangladeshi here! So Aloo Paratha is actually more of an Indian dish; it's actually most popular in Punjab province. For Bengalis, both Bangladeshi & Indian, most popular potato dishes are Aloo Bhorta and Aloor Dom. Latter is more popular in Bengal province in India. Bangladeshis love Aloo Bhorta(mashed potatoes mixed with green or dried red chili pepper, onion, mustard oil, and ghee) which is mainly eaten with plain rice. So we eat carbs with carbs! LOL

Well as a Bangladeshi for me 'Alo bhaji' is the main potato dish not 'Alo paratha' cause mostly every morning from lower to upper class people have their breakfast with 'alo bhaji and flat bread or alo bhaji and rice'.whatever It feels nice to see Bangladeshi dishes here.🥀🇧🇩

Bangladesh, India and Pakistan were one country not so long ago. So, calling dishes common in all three countries 'Indian' is just ignorant. I'm from Bangladesh and we have aloo parata, aloo pakora and aloor dum among hundreds of other varieties of potato dishes, just like India and Pakistan.

Can you pinpoint exactly where 'paratha' was 'invented'? The paratha we eat in Bangladesh are different to various degrees from what people eat in different parts of South Asia, Africa or in the Carribbean islands. Foods are created and adapted based on the culture it goes to. The Malaysian 'Chapati' is very different from the 'Chapati' eaten on a regular basis in East Asia, although both of them became integral part of their respective cultures through South Asian (mostly Gujarati) diasporas there. The Tanzanian Chapati is very similar to what we call in Bangladesh Parata. Chapati uses a different kind of flour and preparation style here. That doesn't make either versions any less authentic. Chapati is as Tanzanian as Pasta is Italian or Baklava is Syrian. As far as geography and the geopolitics of South Asia is concerned, the borders here were not very rigid until very recently (historical relativity). The ingredients and cooking methods we use throughout the region are quite similar. But you put a 'country' which itself has thousands of cultures within, the mother to all other cultures existing solely in or shared with it's neighbors. I hope you understand the difference between culture and country. India is a country, Indian is a constructed national identity. Within India, there are thousands of ethnicities who have their own cultures. I don't want to go to details with you on s KZbin comment section on this since it's a broad discussion: how culture develops to be associated with particular identities. Bottom line, calling anything with Turmeric and and yogurt Indian is simplistic at best and ignorant at worst.

Pudding and souse is traditionally made with sweet potatoes (the kind with white flesh and purple skin), not regular potatoes. People really only use regular potatoes if they couldn't get sweet potatoes, and add sugar to them.
