Kids are not told that war is more than defense and anti-terrorism and when they're in the recruitment office, those officers LIE to them. The US military even conducted dangerous experiments on unknowing soldiers. Lyndon B Johnson's administration sent more and more men to Vietnam mainly to delay their unavoidable shame. They prohibit abortion, keep the college fees unbearable, so there are millions of young men desperate enough to join the military. HOW DARE YOU say that they're deciding for themselves? Look, I'm not a recruiter or anything, just a normal guy. But maybe I can change your opinion on this. Is the Army eSports team an effective or morally just recruitment tactic? Perhaps not. Is the Army anything like video games? Hell no. But I will say that when I was in a low point in my life, the Army helped me get back on track and provided me with food, shelter, steady pay, fitness, free school, and a strong sense of belonging and satisfaction for my work. When in garrison, it's a normal 9-5 job with one month of PTO per year plus holidays. Sure, five years ago when I was a brand new private I had to do shitty gruntwork, get yelled at, and go on long deployments. It comes with the territory. But in hindsight, it made me a stronger person who more strongly appreciates the things I've been given. Not everyone in the military has it the same as I do, but most days I return from work in one of my two very nice cars to a home that is paid for, a wife that is financially supported, cook dinner with food bought at a discount, do college schoolwork that I get paid extra to do, and watch movies and play games on not one, but *gasp* two 32" monitors. And when I leave the Army, I'll have relevant job experience in my field and a security clearance that can land me 100k+ per year salary. When people say the U.S. has the greatest military on earth, this is a big reason why. It's not just the fancy jets, ships, and guns. It's the quality of life, training, and support that each soldier gets. Can the government do a better job at supporting our veterans? Sure, but we are already light years ahead of other countries in terms of support for our service members. Ultimately this is the goal of the US Army eSports team. Their mission is to get young people to understand that serving your country is not all about shooting guns and killing terrorists. It's building a successful life for yourself through training, education, and financial stability. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

gamers are proven to have a advantage over the typical civilian, a Ukrainian tanker driving a Bradley recently took out a T90 using methods he learned in a video game, for those who don't know, a Bradley is a predominately a infantry transport, a T90 is one of Russia's largest/advanced tanks. he took out their optics, he knew exactly where to hit from playing a tank sim, bohemia interactive (i think) are commissioned by the military to produce accurate simulations for training purposes, I always had a theory that the government pushes these games to our youth to subliminally train them in tactics and perhaps even desensitize them.
