The story I heard is that Stu agreed not to da any other promoting but his son was promoting matches after the deal so Vince and the lawyers used that as a pretext supposedly.

Vince agreed to pay that if Stu agreed not to run Stampede as competition in those towns. That was literally the biggest point of the agreement. Stu agreed, because he was retired. Literally, the easiest money he would ever get. But Bruce went behind his back, revived Stampede and ran it against Vince, because he was desperate for money. So, Vince was able to renege on the deal.

Basically the deal got called off due to (I think) Bruce Hart promoting some local matches. After this they tried to bring back stampede wrestling but they had lost a lot of talent and the bloom was off the rose.

OK, what kind of deal did Stu Hart broker if WWF was able to say "we are gonna pay you 750K for this" and they end up stiffing him and not giving him a penny? There has to be more to that...why didnt Stu sue? Seems easy enough, they said they'd pay X amount, they've paid none. Or did Stu get taken for a ride by trusting people? They said they didnt because Bret would have lost his new job....Bret just said he didnt really wanna wrestle anymore and I think you'd figure out you werent getting paid pretty quick, so makes no sense. Bret didnt get any kind of push til late 85-into 86. Their reasoning makes no sense.

The worst part about the Hitman LJN was by that time Toys R Us stopped having as big of a section of figures. I remember it got hard to find wrestlers at that point. I was able to order an Ax but couldnt get Smash and so on. The last ones i remember buying in a store was Hacksaw and One Man Gang. Those were the days. Thanks Bret for adding to my awesome childhood!

Correction for Bret: tirst six figures were: Hulk Hogan, Iron Sheik, Big John Studd, Andre the Giant, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka. Sargeant Slaughter had left the WWF at this point because of his huge deal with Hasbro and GI Joe. He made more with Hasbro of course and wrestled for the AWA and other promotions on the side.

I still have some of those original figures from back in the day. I had the British Bulldogs and yes The Hart Foundation, up until the beginning of this year. I sold Bret Hart figure in very good condition on Ebay for a pretty penny. If I hadn't lost their tag team belts they would have sold for a lot more! Sorry you missed out on the huge royalty cheques Bret but those figures were a huge part of my childhood. I was sad to let them go, but they had sat in a box for years....

From what I've heard Stu Hart was an honest promoter. The American territory guys were a lot more mafia-style carnies with their hustling and scheming and unethical practices. Probably the worst example of Vince buying a territory and poaching the wrestlers and just flat-out ripping him off on compensation. A powerful, shrewd snake from New York vs an honest Canadian old-timer. No chance. I heard from Bret later that Stu was just more concerned about his sons and other wrestlers having jobs with the new empire, and not about himself.

I must have done my mother's head in with asking for the Bret Hart wrestling figure until she finally gave in. I had a wcw ring but near enough every wwf figure. he had a 3 minute match to do and somehow managed to fuck it up by slamming the guy too close to Dynamite in the corner .. then went back and slammed the guy again to try to fix it , and after the second slam the guy was STILL to close .. then Dynamite just had to drop straight down for the headbutt in the corner , instead of flying across the ring into it , which would have been a big deal .. this is exactly what Bret said happened and why Vince probably didnt say shit .. if i brought a guy in for a tryout that had been working for 6 years already , and teamed him up with his friend he'd already worked with several times over the years , and he ruined an easy finish by putting a guy in the wrong spot TWO FUCKING TIMES STRAIGHT , id ignore him also .. because if i had to acknowledge him , id be forced to say "how do you mess up a finish that was that simple ?"
