Maybe brett should point out that the American swimmers were tested on average 6 tests per swimmers compared to Chinese swimmers at 21 per swimmers at the Paris Olympics. Also that USADA had allowed american swimmers who were caught doping to continue swimming for years on the pretext of " under cover " so that the cheat could squeal on other offenders. And this is done without informing WADA. Another point worth noting are how many of the American and Australian swimmers are declared asthmatic or having heart disease etc.. so that they can continue to take banned substances to enhance their performance without fear of beingtested positive and compare the % with the % of the general population suffering from these same diseases. Brett, an interview by you with WADA on the illegal action of USADA would make for a fair and interesting test of your objectivity and CREDIBILTY in reporting. Remember, your viewers will not tolerate hypocrites.
@samsun013 ай бұрын
The biggest news is that GOD is on China's side now. And this signals the end of the hegemony. Good riddance! Another way of saying this is, the USA just ain't getting the 'lucky breaks' it used to get in the previous decades, not in competive sport or in any other competition with the Chinese (economy, technology, military, etc). The fact that the Chinese were tested so many times was due to the American's complaints on the Chinese but this turned out to benefit the Chinese as it removed any doubt that the Chinese were cheating. AND this is made worse by the fact that the US female swim team had purple faces and ONE OF THE SWIMMER was ethnic Chinese. So they can't blame it on genetics or make up crazy excuses (which mainstream media seems to do all the time these days). Americans are now generally regarded as cheaters. And they have the tendency of pre-empting, starting a fight first. So accusing the Chinese of cheating but not providing any evidence. If I can't win by cheating with steriods, there is no way in hell the Chinese coulda won! If the US had just shut it and been less of sore losers, their hypocrisy wouldn't have been as evident to the world.

For those are doubt about Pan Zhan Le or any other Chinese swimmers still: Since no western media or youtuber will tell you the full story of what happened in 2021 which lead to all this fury and shameless clown behavior of those western commentators(especially US and Germany) in live Olympic swimming commenting, and also shameless comments and behavior from some British/Australia/French/US swimmer after the competition, even they were Gold medalists and WR holder, but they are not NOW! Here it goes: >> In 2021 China swimming association held a national gathering, meet of all swimmers in competitive level in a single city. While the swimmers were there, the Chinese Anti Doping Agency (CHINADA) tested all the swimmers 3 times during the duration of the event. They found 23 swimmers with trace amounts of TMZ in 1 of their 3 tests. They promptly started an investigation which determined that the reason only 1 of their 3 tests were positive was because all 23 of these swimmers were staying at the same hotel. Then they checked the kitchen and found trace amounts of TMZ in the meat, in the kitchen counter top and vent hood. All this were reported to WADA. Then WADA did 2 separate investigations of their own which confirmed what was found by CHINADA. So to recap, 1) it was not WADA that did the test but CHINADA, if China wanted to cover it up, they simply could have not reported it at all. No one would be the wiser. 2). CHINADA has the obligation to report to WADA of any doping doubt about own swimmer, but there is no obligation for CHINADA to report any doubt cases as news to the public! Even CHINADA did publish to public the report, who will give a shit? CHINADA can report whatever they want, who will believe? 3). WADA will investigate and give report to public. 4) The TMZ found was trace amounts and only in their blood test after that meal, their initial blood tests were also completely clear. 5) Pan Zanle was not amongst those 23 swimmers. This whole thing was not an issue until Pan had this wonderful and legendary performance in 100 Freestyle swimming in Paris Olympic 2024. Some Western media/people, their brain could not handle the Legendary moment they just saw. Some sore losers just want to make a stink, based on jealous/arrogant/racism, not based on Fact! 6). Even USADA got US congress involved (not sure why since they don't have jurisdiction). Just so everyone will be clear who WADA favors. US pays 10% of WADA budget annually. WADA is based in Canada, has not a single member from China. And, WADA has given last few years, 66% of all Therapeutic Use Exemptions to just 3 countries, USA, France and Australia. Just happens these 3 countries have the most swimming medals. And, all the top US and French swimmer including Leon had severe facial flushing at the end of their race that is a clear side effect of bronchodilators. 7) Most doping tested swim team in Paris Olympic 2024 was China, that is fact but racism! 6-7 times more than US/Austrilia/Canada/France. And all Chinese Swimmers are clean! 8). Shameful western propaganda, discredit really make some western people/athletes looked like brainless brainwashed clown, who believe whatever their TV/Media/News show to them! Really SAD! From WADA and this is where we can find fact: www.wada-ama.org/en/search?q=China%2023&sort-by=relevance and what a ironic and hypocritical USADA: www.wada-ama.org/en/news/wada-statement-reuters-story-exposing-usada-scheme-contravention-world-anti-doping-code
@someone50023 ай бұрын
The biggest takeaway from the WADA report was that they didn't necessarily need to confirm the source of the food contamination. Instead from lab analyses and consultation with even the TMZ manufacturer, they concluded the trace amounts detected and the variable amounts from negative to low positive over the 3 consecutive days of testing the swimmers were not consistent to deliberate doping practices. Further the miniscule trace detected was not at a level of boosting performance, but more of incidental of environmental exposure. To seal WADA's conclusions, only the swimmers that stayed at the same hotel tested positive while other Chinese swimmers at another hotel were negative. WADA didn't have to confirm where and how the food contamination occurred, as it was trivial to the substance of the other evidence proven by lab analyses, which were corroborated by an independent review by a Swedish counsel. Both World Aquatics and IAT also reviewed the procedures and didn't find anything worth appealing. But to USADA with the world revolving around its USA-centric perspective, none of it was satisfactory. Yet, we soon learn, USADA has its own loose procedures of not notifying WADA of positive test results, even though it's accepted that positive tests are published only when the athletes are not cleared. Otherwise, innocent athletes should not be outed (same rule that USADA applies for its own athletes - evidently regardless of innocence or guilt). Hypocrisy at its best! And watch USADA play with words to flip the table. Yes, I wish everyone parroting the so-called New York Times hit piece would stop claiming the swimmers were busted during the Tokyo Olympics. Instead the swimmers were gathered for a national meet (NOT international, so the US Congress can get out of here with the nonsense of some clause of an anti-doping act that it can prosecute outside its jurisdiction - which is the reason the IOC is threatening to pull Olympics from the USA for overreach). What I find more problematic is the institutionalized doping via "Therapeutic Use Exemptions," which Michael Phelps proclaimed to have suffered from asthma and ADHD (even while he indulged illegally in a (state - athletics or not) banned drug at the time, marijuana in South Carolina - albeit out-of-competiton *wink, wink*, as if his recreational use was a one-off *wink* *wink* or his DUIs; the man wasn't *that* law-abiding, where he could have killed innocent victims with his drunk driving, coming from Mr. No Second Chances). Let there be transparency! And stop being so darn self-righteous with a glass house.

Next round Sun Yang will be able to compete again, now the world has realized what actually happened to Sun back then when he was banned. About the waves Pan mentioned in an interview where he said "he was hit by one wave so hard in his first relay that he felt he almost paused in the pool", yet he still broke the Olympic record with a 46.92s. And in the 100m final he felt there was no waves for him, he said that's because he was in the lead all the time. "If I'm fast enough, I won't be affected by waves." Regarding the balance of how to plan 100m freestyle, he said in an early interview that for 2 years his plan has always been to swim hard in the 50m and hold on to that momentum in the second 50m. I'm not sure how his endurance backed that up but this strategy stands out of the saving energy in the first 50 and comming back with a late surge strategy applied by Chalmers and Popovici.

Ok, I found some underwater of Pan. My thinking is a few things other than the obvious strong kick throughout Very fast catch which allows the catch to be delayed. This increases effective body length in the water and increase hull speed. This delays and reduces drag from detrimental rising on plane. Frontal area needs to be studied. By staying low with good posture and possibly smaller chest diameter, the drag force due to frontal area goes down. Perfection of technique.

@someone50023 ай бұрын
I'm sure Brett is biting at the bit to sit Pan down for an interview to probe the mind of someone warp speed ahead of the curve. Pan apparently can speak English, as he spoke to Chalmers in English (gushing how much Chalmers was his idol ... though also rubbing it in that he just beat his idol lol). I don't know how fluent he is, but he can certainly rely on a translator to express more complicated thoughts. He also did a promotion video for a Chinese event (or was it China tourism?) in English. Pan doesn't mince words (kudos) and he is forthright, while standing his ground (counter to the stereotype that Asians are meek and submissive, so they can be easily bullied but not on his watch) - as he felt the world of pressure on him (whether of his own nation or all the haphazard accusations unfurled from the NY Times hit piece, with USADA fomenting the flames). He does seem level-headed and mature beyond his years (to withstand all the virulent slagging on him and his teammates and still outperform, when many athletes would crumble, including the likes of Midori Ito of Japan in figure skating who didn't live up to the expectations in her Olympics). So, would Pan turn the other cheek to such disrespect? He might, but why do Brett a favor? (Yeah, I would be petty about it. Ha.)

Coach Hawke: Given what you said about ppl you know & how much knowledge you have with regard to swimming… it indeed makes you look even worse in this case. May I educate you a little with facts & stats here: 1. Pan already owned the previous WR before he hit water in Paris @46’80 2. Pan had swam more ‘sub-47 100M’ than any human in history (6x incl. the relay 2 nights ago) 3. Almost all the finalists have PB’s under 46’ (or just around 47’) 4. If any of these other finalists swam anything close to their PB’s, then Pan would’ve won by a fingernail, or may have even lost. 5. It’s well known Pan is prone to the effect of waves in tight competitions… the fact that he’d gotten out to a big lead going out & coming back explained why he was able to pull away further towards the end in smooth water. 6. Pan was NEVER tested positive in ALL his swims. NEVER 7. If Pan was in fact doped… you think the Chinese team would ONLY dope this one guy so he can set a world record❓🙄 You very well know they’ve underperformed as a team in these Olympics… so you think don’t want more golds, or the 🥇winners in the other events were just ‘CLEAN super humans’ who just happen to beat all the ‘doped’ Chinese swimmers❓❓❓🙄 I thought the Western world ppl embraces the legal Maxim “Innocent until proven guilty”… obvious this is not the case here with you & those who side with you here. Guys! I am extremely supportive of Pan, but the comments are crazy. I am obviously against the current discrimination with doping accusations towards Chinese team, especially since they were tested so much. However the people here saying Brett isn't an expert or not acknowledging him as a good swimmer is just insane. He was in 2 Olympics, has 7 (!!!) World cup/championship medals. Was a national record holder in 50 free for Australia. And later was a coach for many years. He is definitely much more professional and experienced from both coaching and first-hand perspectives. Yes, almost everybody agrees that accusing of doping is bad. But again, the result is crazy, and a lot of people may have had this urge when such a thing happens. And this especially can be a thing when you are deeply knowledgeable in the event. Like if someone comes and runs a 9.4 now. The most surprised will be those who are the most professional in this and have been figuring it out for 10-20+ years. After the record going down by only -0.06, -0.05 etc. seconds for many years, ripping -0.40 is insane. So, to sum it up, accusing was incorrect, but using this to say Brett is not a professional or not a great swimmer or forgetting that he has been providing so much value and interesting interviews is just stupid, guys. Keep going, Brett, love your videos! And also, Pan interview that came out where he says before the Olympics he can go much faster than 46.80 and happy he beat the record by only a little that time just shows you one more thing. That something really was not right with the swim. That generally you don't go from 46.80 to 46.40. You just don't. And it's insane for this reason. And got such a reaction. But Pan interview now explains it all. He just didn't do the best he could previously to give a smoke-screen as he himself said. I am sure after seeing this interview it would all come to place.

Now 12 years later, Ye still swims competitively, participating in several events in Paris Olympics. But nobody talks about her anymore because she could not get medals at any event. It's weird how some commenters don't understand why the doping questions won't go away. More than three decades of systematic doping is the reason why. Nobody is apologizing for raising questions about it, and it has absolutely nothing to do with jealousy, nationalism or racism. It is a perfectly legitimate reaction to a nation that has demonstrated over an extended period of time that it is not interested in playing fairly.
