Nice Q&A. Regarding Advaita, Vyasacharya and Shankaracharya in Brahmasutra Bhashya cut down ritualistic and meditative (upasana) practices. Here is the logic. If after lot of practice you get Moksha that means liberation is not here and now, it is in space and time, implying it is impermanent and open for destruction, not worthy of our reverence. Then the opponent will ask is it not the same with knowledge that after lot of studying you will get liberation. Shankara says no, you are already free, right here, right now. All the knowledge will do is remove the ignorance that you are bound. Once the ignorance is gone it will be not that I was ignorant and now I am free, it will be that I was always free, ever free. But yes as the speakers mentioned all practice help in building up the mind for knowledge.

I've heard it phrased "There is no path but only a fool doesn't follow it".
