The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) offered high school students and teachers a cost-free opportunity to learn about college experiences, internship insights, and financial aid on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, on Zoom. Moderated by nationally recognized student financial aid expert and CEE Board of Trustees member Mark Kantrowitz, this session provides valuable guidance for academic and career journeys.

Mark Kantrowitz, a 1984 alum of CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI), is an expert on student financial aid, scholarships, and student loans. His mission is to deliver practical information, advice and tools to students and their families for them to make informed decisions about planning and paying for college. He earned bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and philosophy from MIT and an M.S. degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a CEE Trustee and serves as Director of RSI. He is the author of books about scholarships and financial aid, including How to Appeal for More College Financial Aid, Twisdoms about Paying for College, Filing the FAFSA, Secrets to Winning a Scholarship, and Who Graduates from College? Who Doesn't?

Heather Hill is the Manager of CEE’s Teacher Enrichment Program. She received her BS degree in Biology from Fort Valley State University and earned her MS degree in Molecular Biology from Georgia State University. She explored her love of education as a high school science teacher. She taught biology, anatomy and physiology, research, and became gifted certified. She taught anatomy and physiology at Georgia State University. Heather later became a Biological Scientist for the state of Florida. While there, she strengthened her laboratory skills and worked on COVID-19 research.
Devin Simmons is the Manager of CEE’s STEM Lyceums program. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from George Mason University in 2018 and a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2021. He has a passion for highlighting the numerous career paths that STEM education can lead to by showcasing the real-world applications of STEM and sharing success stories of individuals who have forged exciting careers in these fields.
