This is our second Insikerator. The first time it went "bad" and made the humming noise, I called the manufacturer because it was only 3 months out of warranty. They did they right thing and replaced it at no charge. This time, with the instructions you provided (mainly the 6mm allen wrench tip) I was able to fix it myself in no time and save myself the aggravation......THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! My 18-month-old Insinkerator stopped working and water was standing in the device. Excess water was pouring out from "somewhere" onto the kitchen floor. I unplugged the compactor and made sure no debris. I removed all the PVC pipes. No blockage. Then I noticed water wasn't going through JUST the compactor. Toilet plunger resolved that... but the compactor still only hummed. Entered a few keywords here and found this video. I wondered why there was an Allen Wrench under the sink - not realizing it's used to turn the gears and clear what's jamming it. You just saved me at LEAST $200 (parts a plumber WOULD have sold me + labor). I'm in Dallas but hope my story gets you some business. Again... THANK YOU!!

+C Chavez Note: mine seemed "fine" from inside. I was able to spin the disposal "blades" manually with my hand. I had to use the wrench to actually unjam what was jammed.

This video just saved me a ton of money. I came back from a trip and was stressed to find out that my dispoal wasn't working. I was worried I'd have to call our trusted, but pricey plumber. I followed the instructions and it worked! My disposal did have it's power out, so I had to restart it from the breaker first, but the un-tightening and re-tightening is what finally got it cranking again. Thanks so much!!

It worked! Thanks. We recently had friends over and someone pulled off the tab from a beer can and left it in the can. When we rinsed the can (for recycling), the tab went down the drain into the disposal. Turning the mechanism for several rotations released the chewed up remnants. I had to reach into the disposal to remove them but now we are back in business.

Super helpful! I'd found a few other troubleshooting references and one of them was bold enough to say that if I had a humming disposal and no grinding that the motor was damage and the whole thing needed to be replaced! How absurd! This was one of the easiest repairs ever, you guys are awesome

Thank you so much. This helped me fix my issue in 5 minutes. When i first looked in I couldn't see anything. The unit was dead but I pressed the reset button after-which the devise started humming but not working. On your advice I used the wrench which I was unaware to do. I heard something clinking and then saw a small stone in there!!! After I cleared that it works a dream. Thanks Guys!!.
