When I wake in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, I listen (don’t watch) to old medical lectures by Dr. Been. The tone and tempo of his voice puts me to sleep every time. Very soothing and reassuring.

I do the same thing. I was dreaming during one of the lectures and his cat started meowing loudly and I dreamt that he threw the cat out of the window like a football.

If I want to sleep, I watch Dr. Mobeen's covid videos, Dr. Jamunadas lectures and Dr. Jason Fung's diabetes lectures . It puts me to sleep. I like to hear all these 3.

I suffered from Insomnia for years, I stopped drinking, changed my diet and started taking a good multivitamin and melatonin, and worked on the way I handled stress, I couldn't really change all the stress in my life but the way I handled it, my perception of the things, and lastly kava tea and a relaxing scent helped

When you go to bed, close your eyes and walk around a place you know. It can be the inner city, a forest, as long as you know how it looks. Just "walk" around like you'd normally do and look at all the shops, statues, parks, etc. Imagine people around, playing, talking, walking. I give it like 10 mins and you're gone.

Basically you spoke of good sleep hygiene with some technics for relaxation. What the supplements and medications that can help when all else has failed. Perfect sleep hygiene for one month was great for sleep onset but not duration. Can not get back to sleep once awake.

Blood sugar dropping? Try a drink before bed of one tsp butter, one tsp coconut oil, one tsp honey, full fat milk heated up to simmer and blend together to make delicious frothy drink.

I use ear buds and the you tube 'black screen sleep music' nature sounds, music, solfeggios, and it has worked. Breathing is very important, as well as an evening wind down routine over a couple hours after a day. Brush your teeth, splash your face, have a comfortable bed. A half of a beer is a very good remedy too.

Watching news can cause sleep issues too! Gas prices, war.. horrible leadership.. if I don’t feel safe I definitely can’t sleep!

Do not nap!? Clearly Dr. Z isn’t old enough to comprehend aging. No matter what time I go to bed, I never sleep past 6:00 am. If I can’t focus on a task during the day from drowsiness, I take a 20 min nap. Then get back to work. Works like a charm. Usually I sleep 21:30 - 05:30. But now and again…

I totally agree. And who takes 2-3 hour naps besides babies?? I close my eyes for 30 minutes tops, always that amount, don't even set the clock (yup, my brain is trained for it!). After sleeping that little bit, my cognitive ability increases many times over. It's great and like you said, works like a charm.

I also get terrible nightmares. I not only get them, but when I finally wake up, I see flashing red, green, and white lights all over my room. It's a wild and crazy light show on top of a scary dream!

About dreams, I do believe they tell us things about ourselves, things our 'daytime' brain ignores. I know my dreams play out my deepest fears and my deepest wants and desires. On the other hand, trying to figure some of them out is an exercise in futility most of the time. I also think dreams help our brain deal with the ugly stuff we put into it. The news and many shows or movies are full of horrid images. One reason I stay off of Twitter these days. It's like we have to process the garbage our of our system or else we would all go mad. I know I would!

I have suffered from extreme insomnia from 2 days following my first pfizer jab on 4 Oct 1921. Sometimes I cannot sleep for 30 hours and then just sleep for a couple of hours. My normal and previous sleep pattern was between 1am and 8am. I also suffered from extreme fatigue for 9 days, I could not get out of bed. I still have the odd day of extreme fatigue. I have also developed vertigo with collapsing and at times it involves vomiting. I have also developed, post jab, migraine aurors but no pain. None of these adverse reactions have risked my life but I wonder about long term effects.

I had exactly the same reaction from the Pfizer vax. I also had wild dreams when I did actually get to sleep. It’s a neurological thing, but the medical people haven’t figured it out, so they just say it’s anxiety…..yet the pandemic had been around for a year and I had no insomnia until literally the night after the vaccine. The studies now showing the effect on the brain is at least some evidence that this virus and probably it’s vaccine can affect the brain

Cymbalta at 30mg helped with the sleep very quickly. I had pots symptoms. I was at least 13 episodes per hour previously and with the cymbalta I went down to the human average of 5 per hour according to 2 sleep studies. Cymbalta fixed the panic and anxiety as well. I've been speaking with a former drug rep. Said get bumped up to 60. He also said this was one of his best drugs in his bag and it was never complained to by the patients or doctors. Headed to my doctor now, will ask for a 60 mg dose. I will see if I am diagnosed with pots as well.

My son almost die from the 2 Pfizer in May and has had severe!! insomnia . No help from doctors. He had to go to 1 of these Psychologist ,1 drug after another they only work for days. How do you get a medical doctor to help?

@@uptick888 I committed out of frustration. The MD and Neurologist pass the buck on these cases to a unqualified phycologist.

@@superalien4781 I think so but he try’s to play it down. Sometimes he can barely function zombied out and digestive problems. He used to do cross fit now can’t exercise without getting exhausted.

My sleep has been totally the same since I had the vaccine and booster. I was lucky I guess. No issues at all.

@@Fair-to-Middling i think the vaccine or covid doesn't give sleep problems, they just make existing problems worse. if you have no problem whatsoever with sleep, making it a bit worse is still not a problem. if you have a problem that you're not really aware of because it is only minor, when it gets a bit worse it becomes evident.

I've not watched the whole video, so I don't know what this doctor is proposing or if it works, I only know what works for me practically after 75 years of life. I've never had too much trouble sleeping, but I know that when I have been unable to sleep there has been a reason and I'll list them before I tell you how I get to sleep, every night, within a couple of minutes. Firstly, don't overeat and don't eat within three hours of going to bed, this is critical. Secondly, don't drink anything within two hours of going to bed. Thirdly, try not to think too much before bedtime, read or watch something soothing. Fourthly don't sleep on the couch or nap before bedtime. Now, if you've done all of these things I have listed, you will have no trouble sleeping..............when you go to bed , get comfortable and then watch your thoughts. That's all you have to do, watch your thoughts go through your mind. Don't follow your thoughts, just watch them as if they belong to someone else, that's all you have to do, don't follow them.... next thing you know it will be the next day!

@@Mrjohnboy1965 Just watch the thoughts as if you are an observer, DON"T FOLLOW THEM, just watch them and let them go past. It takes a bit of practice.

At 75, you don't need to get up like 5 times and use the bathroom? Wow, wish I had your bladder. But then what would you do for one? I doubt you would want mine! 😃

@@Fair-to-Middling I practice yoga every morning for half an hour. There are many exercises that strengthen the bladder. Also don't drink anything two hours before bed, I VERY RARELY get up at night to use the bathroom. I used to, many years ago, but it's all about the bladder muscles and habit, it's pretty easy to control.

For me, Yogic breathing called "Anulom-Vilom" pranayam works 100% whenever unable to sleep.

I have maintenance insomnia. I have more light sleep than deep sleep. Only 23%deep sleep only.

DR. BEEN!!! FOR LOOFY SLEEPING PROBLEMS check out JACKSON GALAXY on KZbin he's a "CAT EXPERT" (had his own TV series) he has great solutions for resetting your cats circadian rhythms to your own. He explains getting your cat on a good eat play rest schedule. He suggests good toys to really exhaust your cat/like a baby, so they pass out when you pass out. Anyways LOOK HIM UP, my cat used to make things crash and boom in my house all night, then she would bring toys into my bed and get the zoomies all over my bed while I tried to sleep. NOW SHE SLEEPS QUIETLY at the bottom of the bed or on my chest all night. PRAYERS!

I am glad zoplicone has worked for you. FYI It is not meant to be taken for more than 2 weeks. Withdrawal symptoms are worse insomnia. Take 2 weeks to tapper off to reduce this effect. For me it stopped helping after one month. The side effect for me was severe memory issues then bounce back worse insomnia when i tried to quit.

My schedule is that I get to bed late, at about midnight, but I just can't sleep right away, as though wind down time is needed, and end up sleeping at 2 to 3am. Then every morning I'm tired and have problems waking as well as mood and energy issues throughout the day. Tried to sleeping early, as soon as I get to bed at 12am, and it doesn't work. Are there any suggestions in this?

Maybe you are not both cognitively and physically tired. I think that one makes sense to me. The days that I shovel snow AND exercise for 30 minutes really kick my butt and I sleep for a good 5 hour stretch the first time (then 2-3 hours more after that). I always fall right to sleep though, even after less exhaustive days, but I cheat with that. I take 2 mg melatonin and 1/2 a little blue pill from Costco (Sleep-Aid, also known as Unisom). Not saying you should do that. It's just what I have found to help me, both the exercise and my tiny little friends. 😉

@@timosaksala4797 Yes. My daughter started taking THC for chronic pain. She quit after a few attempts. Said it caused her anxiety and stomach issues. I was secretly glad about it since I have some pretty vivid memories of Potheads back in the 70's when I was in school. And yes, I've smoked it and also remember that it made me feel stupid and fatigued. I certainly don't need that and neither does she!

Yes sir. I was able to go off a couple of my meds for sleep and chronic pain that helped neither sufficiently after I got on medical. The pain relief isn't as consistent as the sleep aid, unfortunately, but it is much better than nothing or harmful drugs.

I tried everything natural, otc and rx for my insomnia and other parasomnias. The only thing that helps me consistently and without horrible side effects is 🍁🔥🌬

Was it really necessary for Dr. Ashkyan to go down the entire usual list of rituals people do before going to bed? Some professions are notorious for being condescending to people, Dr. being one of them because a) you have to be really, really smart and b) use vocabulary that may as well be Swahili. I can understand where their condescending attitude comes from but when the word ritual brings out your arrogance, without any discernible event before the fact that would give credibility to the over explanation of remedial words in the content of sarcasm, your condescension is built on a facade.
