Thought I was the only one crazy enough to stick my phone down there with a selfie stick. Except I do it when the tank is at operating level lol. We do inspections without pumping the tank. In my experience the tank will deteriorate/crack above the sewage level. But I can see the benefit of pumping them just to be sure.

Years ago there wasn't great technology to inspect and record what the inside of a tank looked like, a very important piece of information.Your inside-the-tank videos are worh a thousand words. Next time my tank gets pumped I'll do the same as you.

One question I'm always asking myself: Why are the "manholes" in us-saptictanks that small? It would be easy to build those holes a little bigger, so that if an inspection is necessary, a person could enter the tank essily to do inspections or repairs or to get items back which had been flushed through the toilet ...

Can't speak for him, but I've dug up thousands of tanks here in IL and never hit a gas line. More common here to cut underground cable/internet lines. Of course they put them right over the septic tanks lol.

Depends on your area, if it's an area with a lot of septic tanks. Then it's easy money. But many cities and towns are connected to a main sewer line.

I work for a septic company, though am pretty new. But they’ve told me and the customers at the job sites I’ve been at that they are not worth it. Some yeast/sugar can be used here and there but it’s not super necessary. The rid-x stuff though (from what I’ve been told) is a waste of money
