I love how they set it up so the audience has to read George Sanders's straight face to interpret or imagine what's going on in his character's mind as he watches Inspector Clouseau's clumsiness with such patience.

Its fun if youre 60+. People were talking about these movies when i was a kid but i was never able to see why they thought it was so great. Some other things from the 60ies i really like, for example Star Trek and Waylon Jennings, but this and The Beatles, just No.

@@pflaffik even though i have to admit many of todays 7 sec youtube-tik tok videos can be extreamly funny.. so i can understand how young people today can find a 90 minute OLD film with just a few dry humor scenes boring. but for us that grew up in the 1960s without tv, and movies ONLY 3 - 4 days a year from a person driving around to villages in northern norway with a projector and a few film rolls, it was fun!!! NO MATTER IF SOME OF THE MOVIES WASNT FULL OF CONSTANT ACTION.. For example as a kid i didnt understand dry english humor. but as a grownup having some life experience i love it.

Peter Sellers said in an interview, that he based the accent on a real life French concierge, who he met in a hotel. He took the guys accent and made it part of the character.

It sucks that you can't find these movies unless you look for them anymore. It's obviously because how they depict Kato and the Asian jokes. They've been effectively canceled by our PC culture. Peter Sellers is my favorite physical comedian. Gone, but not forgotten. Followed by Belushi, Farley, and Curly Howard. Only the Good Die Young.

There's no way, no way, that ANYONE could be as bumbling as Inspector Clouseau. He could take a simple situation and turn it into a hysterical disaster without even trying. You couldn't help laughing even though you knew what was coming up.

Yes, I agree, he was really something else. Whatever he was doing, even the easiest thing in the world, he managed to turn it into a complete disaster. "Merde"! But what a team they were, Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards, this is comedy, the closest you can get to slapstick, comedy, like Chaplin did, earlier.

This isn't actually a "Pink Panther" movie, however a precursor that established the Clouseau character titled "A shot in the dark". I think it is actually the best on of them all. A classical European ",Who done it". Wealthy aristocrat with staff with the ending and interviewing all in the large"room". I think the first Pink Panther loosely follows this one.

My Dad was a big fan of the Goon Show on british radio in the 50s which really made Sellers' name along with Spike Milligan another great comedian. Harry Secombe was also a member of that marvellous team. I've heard clips from that show and they were very zany. Agree with the comments about Peter Sellers. One of the greats of British comedy no question about that.
