that man is Leyland Braun. he was my senior drill instructor. 5ft2 of pure intimidation. this man is a staff sergeant now and he has played such a big part of my life. I graduated bootcamp on 8/8/14. fairly recently. this man trained me to work for everything I aspire to be. he made me want to be better than just good enough. the world has its standards, but this man trained me to go above and beyond the standard. to be the best marine I can be. I will try my best to model my life after this man. he has truly changed my life. If I never see you again SSGT I want you to know that you are my role model. like my father, you are my hero. I will do my best. and I will break myself off to be the best. because I know that that is better than any thankyou I could give you.

A great tribute - I can tell you love and respect SSGT Braun (what a name, right?!). His character has already been passed-on in you in your pursuit of excellence. It is that kind of pursuit that will keep this country going - no talk, just do! Keep it up, Mr. Conte - we're rooting for you!

Marc Conte Two degrees from Rutgers University, a job that pays over 120k , 23 years in the military E1 to E7 then a Direct commission and now a Captain. Straight Ds and one F my senior year in high school was even arrested a week before I left for PI. Besides what will be the birth of my son this coming September, SEP 25, 1992 stands as the proudest moment in my life. I still remember all three of my DIs I know there names and where they were from. I feel the same way about them Marc, they had a very positive influence on me. When ever I am at a low point I can still hear their voices saying ' Don't give Up' My wife 's is an MD and she has told me she knows when the Marine comes out. I am in the Army reserve but I will remain a Marine for life. Semper Fi!!

Too many people think that 100% yelling and screaming and being a hardass is the best way. Sometimes, it's a quiet voice that imparts compassion that gets through. Nothing is ever 100% this way or that way. Adapt and overcome like this SSGT does.

Facts, i am from a land, a group of people, a group of ethnicity that is to not much of value. However, by the grace of God i was looked upon and brought to this country(long story short) but God granted me his grace and helped me fly on his wings of mercy and today i am able to be in the US Army. I don't take that for granted the processed it took me to be in the Army, now that i am, i am thankful and appreciate that. I'm not necessarily respected but ain't nobody care about that. Most importantly God's eyes are on me and I will do great things by his grace and serve the United States and whomever are placed in my path.

i agree with u , that some kids are spoiled and that they will never grow up until they almost fail completely , i am a 14 year old boy who one day will become a united states air force fighter pilot , yes i am spoiled and disrespectful at times but something im not is lazy , expect it done for me , or undisciplined understand that not all kids are like that and like me w are willing to work to accomplish dreams , we might be a little unconventional but does it matter if it achieves the same result

+Miles miller Cristopher Lie (since you want to become an actor, I think you know who he is...) was a soldier during WWI and WWII he didn't fought in the frontline, but London was bombed multiple times in front of his eyes. Also most people don't get PTSD, there is a risk, but most people don't get it. And there are other ways to serve your country, you don't have to be a front line soldier (I don't know about the Marines since I am not American but I am sure in the US armed forces there are communication officers, cookers and so on...) Also if you want to serve your country you don't have to join USMC or the any other branch of the armed forces, There are probably a lot of ways to serve your Country :)

salg i believe you are saying its not about that, however, that too would be the antithesis of what means to be apart of this nation, as this nation has something that allows people to say that, called the bill of rights, and according to it, we have the right to say that, we [citizens] dont have the right to forcefully get them off of our country but we can say it however we want

Weird how that turns right? For weeks you wished a piano would fall on these guys. Then literally overnight it switches. You start to understand these are some of the hardest working and incredible people not just in the Marines, but in the country. Inspirational. Theres nobody like them, and their sacrafice is just .....theres a reason the country and world respects the Marines. Guys like this are the gatekeepers. Most dont understand the weight of that during recruit training. I remember after pickup, that black friday chaos. As I passed out I thought this is a show. They couldn't keep this up for 3 months. Boy was I wrong. In 3 months and some change I only saw 2 fleeting glimpses of them turning away to smile. Even after getting our ega...it never stopped. The insults and disparaging remarks dropped a bit. But theyd go you just earned yourself a seat at the table. Now you need to earn a reason for you being there. I really just love those guys. They never let off and did a hey were all Marines, were buddies now. For every difficult and miserable thing we did, it became more and more clear that these guys wanted us to succeed.

My NJROTC Asst Instructor was one of these men, he made men out of men and showed women what they can do to be better then men. He was the "father" figure so many seek, even those who had strong fathers in their lives. Even after 25-30+ years, his students still looked up to him, and most said he was the foundation of their success.

I can relate to this. Didn't have as hard as a childhood, but my parents were divorced and we grew up poor. I had dreams though, so worked hard in school to get a good scholarship. Did a few years before also losing ambition, joined the Army, came back with strong values, work ethic, and renewed dreams.

The dislikes are the people that have been brought up by their parents to believe that life and happiness are owed to them thanks to our present Gov't officials and education. They are poor little people that have no idea what actual hard work is. I was not a Marine but in the USN. And I will tell you we need more people like this young man to teach out children today. God bless him!

Hey that's wassup Braun. Had to watch that once I recognized you bro. We were in Career Course together back in 2013. Nice speech man. That motivated me to want to get back on those footprints. Keep up the good work out there in PI.

I listen to this at least twice a week. Why? Because I'm in the process of joining the military (not USMC), and whenever some shit comes up and I feel like I won't make it, this motivates the hell out of me.

If you want it bad enough, and if you work hard enough, you truly can achieve anything. Or at the very least, pave the way for others for them to succeed.
