I have an old boy scout kit that is all steel (tin plated I think) and I love it. I also have an aluminum kit with holes in it. 100% a good idea to make a viable boy scout kit, looking forward to it!

Absolutely YES on the Boy Scout kit! I have a couple of these that my nephew and I use to take in the woods back in the day. I was actually going to suggest this very thing to you as another modern reproduction in the Pathfinder line. Almost every component for a COMPLETE cook set is represented in this set: Pan Pot Plate Cup😃 A Pathfinder version would be awesome and a best seller. Do it PLEASE😃

Definate yes on the boy scout kit. I'd be happy with either a thick carbon steel, or a stainless like your folding skillet. As long as it's heavy enough to not be tipped over by the handle. A problem most of the scout kits have. One thing I'd love, is measurement markings on the cup. Very handy.

My first time seeing a kit like this. If it were made to the same specs and quality as the rest of your gear I think it would be an amazing addition. I'd certainly have one, as soon as they reach the UK of course.

I think car campers will absolutely buy the boy scout set. I would even get one to use for day hikes or fishing/hunting camp. I would suggest to improve on the screw it is little and likely to get dropped and lost. If hot tent campers like myself dropped it in the snow it might be lost forever. The foldable skillet is awesome I will be getting one when they come in. Thanks for the hard work and dedication.

That takes me back...I had a Palco mess kit in the same style along with the canteen that was shaped like a UFO both with the thin green fabric covers..made a lot of terrible meals in those as a kid...🤣

I've used my 10" Pathfinder skillet with folding handle so much, I can't get the outside bottom clean anymore without a bunch of scrubbing. I love the depth of that skillet, especially for deep frying food. I have one of those thin stainless kits with the plastic cup that I got at a yard sale in new condition, years ago. It could definitely use an upgrade, as the stainless is so thin that pretty much anything you cook in it burns.

The Boy Scout kit is iconic. Updating it would be very cool. If somehow the foldable handle you have on your pan could be used to hold and snap lock the kit together. It might be more practical than the original removable handle. Having a carbon pan would really nice as well. Although just reproducing the original would also be cool. I will have to get one of your carbon pans. Thanks for sharing.

I have a vintage BSA Kit with the carbon skillet. It is a fantastic cooking pan. I think it would be awesome to see a PF brand Scout Style Kit. I also cannot wait for the carbon skillet to arrive! It would make a great item to use in a new episode of Pathfinder Outdoor Kitchen!! 😃

Just my thoughts. I dont think its for everyone. Many of your products are very versatile and I own a lot of them. Ive used many items daily for many years and other items just a few times a month. I think that item shines for home use, bushcrafting type camps and other family fun adventures. I dont see backpackers, and hikers using it as much as lots of your other products. With that said, I have four kids and we spend a lot of time outdoors so I would buy it to add to my gear just because of family needs. Im not sure if others feel the same. Btw: when I was homeless and then lived in a barn for 3 years I used only pathfinder gear and because of the quality and durability I was very comfortable and rather came to enjoy the peace and freedom of living simply. As you once said, "smoothing it" not roughing it. Thanks Dave for everything or should I call you Brother 😉👍

I have one of the aluminum boyscout cooksets, and a cheap stainless mess kit from Walmart. I'd love to get my hands on an all stainless set thats actually usable. The steel in the ozark trail stuff is so thin that ad it heats it practically jumps when it expands. viability wise i am definitely your target audience for this piece.

The Boy Scout kit in stainless would be great. Myself, I'd put a great deal of thought into redesigning and improving the handle attachment system, to make it more durable and to increase it's durability.

Looks like a very versatile and complete cook set for such a slim form factor, and none of the components are a compromise with an atypical shape/size like you see with most cook sets. I would definitely buy this. Maybe if the pan was carbon steel and the bowl was stainless steel you'd have the most versatility?

Great idea, Dave! The BSA cook set I used in the early ‘70s was flimsy aluminum, so your stainless set would be a boon to campers both young and old. I will purchase one when they launch. Always great videos. Blessings to you and your family.

I like the folding handle carbon skillet, Like the idea of improving the boyscout mess kit too! You kinda have to pick rather you want to take a skillet or pot so the ability to have all of that nesting together. Given that it has a pot and a skillet though I think I'd put a plastic cup in it so you can drink hot coffee without melting your lips and taste buds.

Love the idea of a stainless steel Boy Scout mess kit with a usable frying pan, but I think it would be even better with a carbon steel frypan. A friend of mine had one that was given to him by his grandfather and it worked wonderfully.

I have a couple folding handle skillets. One of them has a lid. One of my unique items is an oven cooking bag in a small metal pill case. The bag can be used to carry water, and I can also boil water in the bag.

It seems like a great cook set, I've never had the opportunity to use one and with usable examples being rare, this is the only way I will get to use a cook set like this and that seems like a great way to get in touch with the past. The generation of people who used the original should have their traditions and spirit continue to inspire us to commune with nature and fellowship with generations of outdoorsmen, and that's a pretty cool thing for pots and pans to inspire. If it's in the cards I would be happy to own one. Thank you Mr. Canterbury, Pathfinder School, and Self-Reliance Outfitters for understanding the importance of those lessons and for continuing to push people to remember. All of humanity is an unbroken chain of outdoorsmen and we need to remember that.

Dave,Yes that Boy Scout Cook Kit is absolutely Viable .In my Young 20's a lot just like that made by ? Whom I can't remember,but At that time frame I was Poor.It was not expensive and I cooked hundreds of meals with that over a Sterno stove. Fact: America 's standard of Living going into 3 Rd World Status.For Kids leaving Home (16-19 ) yr olds Its a Start.

Id prefer the skillet in the mess kit be carbon while the rest of the kit is stainless. Going along with the "Inspired by the past." , I think it would a be neat throwback to have your old stick figure with a spear logo stamped on something!

Carbon steel is legit! Don't skimp on the handle, please Dave. Those handles on the old skillets are the perfect length! I always burn my hand over the fire trying to work with a short "ultralight" handle.

Thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts. After almost 50 years of experience in survival situations. From the young ages in scouts to war time service and the vacation camping. Few containers fit all situations. In most cases, these thin pots and pans can be replaced with a simple sheet of aluminum foil. Obviously, they lose the value of being cleaned and reused over and over again. A complete roll of foil can be folded and stored very small. Taken put and formed into any size or shape. The scouts camping kits are great for most adventures. The military gear would be my second choice.

I like the versatility of that boyscout kit. I would prefer it with the new carbon steel folding handle skillet that you are releasing. Another cool idea would be a perforated lid and baking rack for some of your bush pots. It would allow them to be used like baking inserts sold for crockpots.

Sometimes when packing in a bushpot, cup, bowl, and skillet don’t go with me because of the sheer bulk. I pick one or two cooking tools that will do at best ok with all I plan to cook. The Boy Scout mess kit would be a game changer in reducing that bulk, and if it was a carbon steel skillet I’d never need to carry anything else.

I agree that the BSA style mess kit would be great. A simple self contained system is hard to beat. As a former scout and scoutmaster this brings back fond memories and I think it would sell great as the quality would be better than what is currently on the market today.

Dave, I also had a similar boyscout cookset and loved it, of course I would buy one of your creations if you decide to make these, I would like to see a frypan that is more robust as you mentioned, the pot I would like it with batwing handles and perhaps a pour spout, the cup again with batwing handles, perhaps a special cutlery set, and a carry bag…ty Dave..

Yes, I always loved using the old boyscout kit as a kid. I have one from Walmart, and yes it is thin steel. The pan worped the first time I used it. I think it would make a great addition to the cup and bottle set!

I had a set back in the 80's, with the BSA emblem on it as well as their nesting silverware set. They were lost unfortunately but no one makes anything even comparable to that anymore. I actually can't believe you haven't made this yet. I think it's definitely viable if set at a good price. It worked really well and has everything a scout or anyone else would need either in a mess hall or campfire side to prepare and eat almost meals. It's meant to be portable and usable for cooking. I really wouldn't even mind the plastic measuring cup that came with it, similar to the kuksa you have already. Go for it!!!!
