Nice to see someone at these events who can actually grab the car by the scruff of the neck and drive it.

First race I attended was F5000 at Laguna Seca in 1970. My buddy and I were 15 and took his dad's car (no DLs) to the race. I knew then that being a race car driver was my destiny.
@carsandwhisky20024 жыл бұрын
Seriously fast car. f5000 is just awesome when you consider that it’s nearly as fast as 70s F1 for a fraction of the cost.

Man, with all the amateurs, this is crazier than Daytona, Craig! Frickin' scary in all these expensive vintage race cars! I was happy to see you start to put it down when you cleared the backmarkers. Nice work, kid. Give our best to Bud and Biz, and Kirt. (and thanks for posting this, Leah!)

We were at Seattle International Raceway at the vintage races back in the 1990's. About 10 of us were standing around a F5000 waiting to hear it start. Oh, it started alright.....and nearly blew both of my ear drums out! My ears rang for the rest of the day...LOL! Good times at SIR!!!!

I used to go to Riverside Raceway frequently. The Formula 5000 or Formula A's were my favorites. Great sound and scary fast.

For me this paints the problem of most historic racing stateside. Some epic race cars but only a few of them pushed hard. Compared this to most races at the Goodwood Revival, with front line and current racers pushing them often quicker than in era and it's a palpable difference in 'racing'. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Man that car was visually so much faster than the others. He had so much more corner speed and braking. Lots of mobile safety cones for him to pass. Almost didn't get one lap with any rhythm as he was blocked by cars he was nearly crashing into they were so slow.
@ded3eat2 жыл бұрын
That's mostly driver. There's typically 2 or 3 people in each race that actually drive historic cars near their potential.
@definitelyjustcj4148 Жыл бұрын
@@ded3eat exactly. I see historic races and then you see actual races in the past and you quickly find out who is actually driving to full potential and who isn't.

Very nice drive .. no dangerous moves ..well thought out racecraft..why did you start in the rear of the field? Did you suffer a mechanical or didn’t qualify at all? Another 10 minutes would’ve been great he might’ve been able to mix it up with the front fast guys .

My grandfather, Taylor Spurlock raced these in the 70’s. He said it was a Lola chassis with a Chevy motor. From memory, I thought he said it was called formula 4 or Can am. His team was sponsored by the Panamanian dictator. If anyone has any information on this, please reply
