Insta360 GO3 Has Some Big Issues & Solutions

Insta360 GO3 has some substantial issues, which impact the video & audio quality.
Sharing my experience and the solutions I have.
The biggest issue is the magnetic mount but the solution is pretty easy.

A few points... 1. The latest firmware version is actually 1.0.15 not 1.0.9... they are slowly rolling It out (I got it nearly 2 weeks ago) and it fixes the playback issue and improves the audio sync. I'm surprised more don't have it yet (some others also report having it on forums but not the majority) so maybe they discovered an issue and stopped the rollout. I haven't had an issue with it. 2. The audio sync can immediately be improved/resolved by only exporting a small number of freeform videos at one time in the app or Insta360 Studio... the problem seems worse when exporting over 4 or 5 clips at one time. If you do it one at a time the issue seems totally gone. 3. My magnetic pivot clip does not vibrate like that, or click when trying to rock it. It seems there is a manufacturing issue with some of them.

Insta360 customer support is really great, they will replace my cam because of the magnetic mount issue. The other 2 problems can be most probably solved with the next fw. @@wheelxtech it's the exact same list as the 1.0.15 I had but now listed as 1.0.20... "1. Fixed the occasional problem where the preview on the Action Pod stuttered after the camera connected to the app. 2. Optimized the image quality in FreeFrame Video Mode. 3. Resolved the aspect ratio error when shooting some scenes. 4. Optimized the stability of Video Mode at 50fps. 5. Improved system stability and user experience."

Hi Arthur, Problem Nr. 2 & 3 can be solved by a FW Update, there is already one rolled out actually today in Europe , I will make a video for sure about the improvements. The issue with the magnetic mount is easy to solve as you have seen. If 2.7k is enough for you , you can go for it or watch my other comparison video with DJI OA3 & Go Pro 11 (DJI will bring out soon the Action 4, I would not pick that). It depends on your use cases actually which action cam is right for you.

My current Insta360 GO2 action camera is great, though it does overheat easily even indoors. I liked your examples of cycling down the grassy hill showcasing the stabilization quality.

I have already seen renderings of third party finger mounts which have those rubber pads preinstalled and I was curious why. Thanks for pointing this out, guess I'll wait for the third party mounts to become available, instead of buying the insta360 one at a premium price.

I think the gopro fingers/1/4-20 mount already has the rubber pads. It mentions somewhere its designed for more action-y purposes.

thanks for the video. Indeed there are few issues, but the worst is the video audio sync. I’ve been recording using the freeframe. Does using video mode solves the issue?

it did at least when I use other modes than free frame mode.before update in every mode I had the issue but not every time, sometimes I had records without sync issue

Actually they dont suggest the pivot stand for action use. You can find another option - quick release mount for action use and it is well fixed without noises

Hi @phchan2219, thanks for your comment. Without action pot there is no issue as I mentioned in the video but the battery life is significantly less. The mount issue is not a big deal for me actually, it's not nice to have it for the price I paid, the other 2 issues are much more distracting. I've the latest fw since 2 days and the problems are still there. I'm working on a video about it.

yes unfortunately I still have the issues. You can check my latest video, fw update did not help as well. If you are lucky, you will not have these issues accept quick release shakiness, this is hw related problem but easy to solve. A lot of users are reporting that they have none of these issues.have fun with your cam ✌🏻

the magnet thing is only wobbly on the action pod, the camera is not wobbling at all

Hi @askme1245 after fw updates it got better but I think this is a hw related issue, can not be solved 100% via fw update, unfortunately I have no solution

So 1st issue could be solved with a cut section of a rubber band placed between camera & mount. 👍🏻

actually audio sync issue and library sometimes not available issue is present also in my X2 lately :/

This actually could be solved via FW Update, I don't know why it's not happening. Great, innovative products actually.

@@wheelxtechit is annoying but I actually started to record sound on separate resorder sometime ago - it was game changer for me and audio quality improved significantly, actually even more :D but still syncing in post is easier when audio recorded in camera is alligned with the picture - because one can use auto sync button and it takes 0,3 sec. hope they fix it soon

background music is too loud and i think not needed. particularly when you present mount rattling sound issue.

I think its a mixed bag... ALL GO3 cameras are made in China at the same factory... its luck of the draw if you get a defective mount.

I have issues with connecting the camera from the insta360 app on my phone. Somehow the GO 3 wifi network just didn’t appeared on my phone, hence the insta app is refusing to connect to the camera. But my laptop able to see the GO 3 wifi network. I’ve tried several phones, none of them can see the GO 3 wifi. So temporary solution is to use the action pod to view my recorded video, or to use the USB C cable provided to view the recorded video on my laptop. There’s no way I can see through my insta360 app on my phone. It’s quite frustrating as I’ve tried everything including reset factory. If anyone has similar issues ?

rubber fix - looks like not only fixes shake noise issue but also minimised video artifacts caused by shake!!

@@wheelxtech don't diminish your findings, fixes, these are valuable ones. Believe or not showing up youself that way won't help anuone, especially you... I don' regard your fix as not worthy and don't care if someone fix it better. First ofall, you first reported this issue and believe me I watched many 'sponsored' reviews showing only positives. You not only showed this issue up but also presented the fix, and tested it. This is real standing out from the crowd. This brings value, at least to me. Knowing what you found can help me and others to decide if thie issue is significant to us or not. That is why your video is more caluable to me than dozens of others that showing details based on specs sheet not actual real life usage.thank you for that. I have Go2 (the previous version), I was wondering shoudl I upgrade. For me this docking box is badly designed. Go2 when put into its small docking box was fully covered - here we have lens not covered by any protection. I used to put Go2 into my jeans pocket, bag or anywhere. with Go3 I'd worry about scratching the lens or having it dirty within seconds. Your findings and actually no improvement of video quality saved me some money :D
