Like what you see? If you want to buy one of these, or anything else for that matter, here's my amazon associate link for it: amzn.to/3JVUZFX Thanks once again to Colin for funding this camera! Something I forgot to mention is that I strongly suspect that this camera actually does most of its processing in-camera, as opposed to simply doing a capture, compress, and stream over USB as most web cams do. I think this is how they're getting such a dramatic improvement despite being USB2 - by actually processing the image like a smartphone does. This likely contributes to the price as well.

Another nicely informative video - thank you Graham. I've had this camera for a few months now and note a party trick that isn't immediately obvious and some issues with the Windows software, depending on what you use it for. The good is that the camera can be used effectively on a non-Windows device, such as a YoloBox Pro. In fact at a push, its the only camera you need to have with the YoloBox. Even the Insta360 Link's tracking functionality works for example. You mentioned that you didn't really note what HDR was doing. The HDR functionality works best if you have blown-out lighting. If for instance you have a window behind you and its very bright outside, HDR mode will attempt a sort of backlight function. Meaning that it tries to expose both the foreground (you) and some of the background. The not so good is if you use sleep mode or hibernate on your machine. The windows software will lose settings. You'll find you are in manual focus instead of autofocus, white balance will no longer be in auto and the camera sliders will all be at the far left. Likewise, unless you have the Windows App running, when you start-up the likes of MS Teams, you'll see your background but without you. Its like a magicians trick whilst the camera 'wakes-up' and you suddenly appear in front of the background, with what seems like a long wait. But its worse than that Jim... If you have multiple cameras of different types, you may find that MS Teams has selected the wrong camera as it hasn't seen the 'connected' Insta360 Link device (because the damned thing is off, in its stupid 'privacy mode'). The general way of correcting this is to unplug and reconnect the camera and make sure you are using the Insta360 Link software, but with preview switched-off.

Very nice, I don't have a use for it ... but I still want one! One thing I noticed, in the 4K tests you seemed to loose lip synch, I assume because of the 30 fps.
@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
Yea I noticed it was a bit wonky in editing, but Vegas was _really_ struggling with the 4k content (my editing workflow is horridly inefficient, long story) so it was hard to fix. Considering it was like, 60 seconds I opted to just let it slide. The scene where I've got two 4k cropped streams and my face cam in the top-right was exporting at about 0.5fps 😅

The gimbal and the ability to be able to set up camera positions and use a stream deck, plus the added features and video quality, seems worth it to me. I would likely use it for the same thing you're going to use it for as well as some potential b-roll shots. You could place this on slider and track an object for cheap. The ability to do this with an SLR would cost more just for a motorized head, plus the cost of the camera and lens. Plus... the form factor is nice. Nothing come close to the compact nature of this. I think I'm convinced on getting one of these.

Well, I recently bought a Panasonic Lumix G7 outfit for $600+ and I must admit it has so many settings that I am still fiddling with it and so far I am not impressed with its video quality. I think this web camera seems to sell for less than $300 in the US on amazon and seems like a better fit for my needs doing KZbin videos similar to what you do. I wish I had seen this video a few weeks ago...

The whiteboard features might be valuable for the workbench, placing the stickers for the camera focus so you know what your shot limits are and depending on how the autofocus goes might be useful to keep track of items in movement. Really great cam and the 150-200 for the gimbal can be well worth it but still plenty happy with the Brio I picked up not long ago although like you said this is objectively the better product.

So when you always talked about you were still finding the best way to review products and you reminded us to expect some experimentation on your part in terms of the what the product reviews would look like. And what your saying Graham with this video is that this is the fruit of your labour so to speak.

Kind of, this was a very off-the-cuff review, as I wanted to get it done before I procrastinated and it became another video in the 'this has become an obligation not an interest' pile. But also smashing videos out without over-thinking them is a big hurdle for me to get past with reviews, so it's a good thing.

@@Adamant_IT The fact you started with a new intro animation and music, combined with your confidence in knowing what makes a good webcam tick, it just oozes quality my friend, it oozes. Great review. With regards to the relative qualities of the recordings I first noticed your spectacles - specifically the stairstepping present on the Brio - then the clarity of zip and tag on your jumper of the Insta360. I was intrigued by the capability of having multiple devices but I wonder how the tracking will cope? Or say you want one camera in whiteboard mode and another tracking you. Here's hoping their next version does 4k 60 fps, hopefully with a larger sensor. Keep up the good work.
@NebukadV Жыл бұрын
Since you brought up the USB 2.0 topic again, think of it this way: USB 2.0 has a throughput of 480 MBit/s. For reference, KZbin's 4k30 suggested bitrate is around 40 MBit/s. So even USB 2 provides TWELVE TIMES the bitrate you need for this sort of stuff. For 1080p30 it's just 12 MBit/s, so yeah ... On the other hand, uncompressed 4k30 Video would give you about 6 GBit/s of data, 1080p60 about 3 GBit/s. So that is an amount of data, you could send over USB 3 (USB 3.1 Gen 2 for the 4k stream). But this is not an amount of data, that you want to constanly be going though your IO, Memory, etc.
@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
Yea I've been thinking about this, but can't reconcile it. Other high-end cameras tout USB3 as enabling higher quality - for example, the BRIO won't do 1080p60 on a USB2 port, but it will on USB3... hence why I've been assuming there's a bottleneck there. Either way, the Link being USB2 proves that more intelligent compression/streaming of video is all you need.

11:38 The Logitech was fast to focus on your face, but that was because your face was already in focus before you removed the circuit board. It was not able to focus on the circuit board at all and that make this comparison not fair. Maybe you where too close to the camera and that was the reason it failed to focus?

Does it have motion sensor that detects movement and turns on computer left on sleep or standby and record the sensed motion/intruder?
@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
It doesn't, no. This isn't intended to use as a 'surveillance camera'. It would be interesting to see it connected to a system for that, but it doesn't have the functionality to detect and start/stop on its own.

@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
Tbh, size of the sensor really doesn't mean a lot. The Elgato also has a 1/2" sensor, and it's garbage compared to this camera. I guess it does increase the potential for a good picture, but it's not a sure thing.

@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
Not specifically, but this video involved a lot of speaking directly at the camera (and by extension, directly at the mic) which makes a big difference to quality. Usually I'm looking down at the desk, which diminishes the audio pickup a bit. It's always a balance between having the mic as close as possible, but not having it in the way where it'll constantly get knocked.

seen a review on this on Techseed channel a few days back. No doubt its impressive but the price is extreme. Certainly good for streamers or peeps that use Webcams alot but for the rest of us i think there needs to be a significant price drop before im in the market for it

Yea not worth it unless you're a content creator or you need to seriously impress people in a conference call IMHO. Home users and streamers, just get a BRIO if you want a premium web cam, it's still a very good camera by web cam standards.

I have exactly one type C connection on the back of my pc. I get super pissed when I get type c to type c connectors. I end up on amazon either buying another type c to normal usb cable or buy an adapter. I love the idea of a universal connector but until motherboard manufacturers start putting more than one type on the back of a board It is so much hot expensive garbage.
@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
That's why I liked the inclusion of the adaptor. Defaults to the newer port, but includes an adaptor if you don't have a spare Type-C port.

they could have quite easily included a 2 meter cable with it for the price you pay
@Adamant_IT Жыл бұрын
Yea I would've liked to see that. But then if you're a content creator, you're probably going to want something even bigger anyway. Both my main cameras have 5m and 3m thick braided cables, because they're mounted on mic stands that I move around - it's not reasonable to include the kind of cable I'd actually want in the box.
