Insta360 One R Solution For Corrupted Camera01 File On SD Card

A solution for repeated Windows Explorer crash caused by corrupted Insta360 One R Thumbnails in Camera01 file on SD card.
To be more precise this method allows access to your recorded files on the SD card after the One R creates corrupted thumbnails.
This leads to both the phone app (iphone confirmed only) and Windows Explorer to crash repeatedly with trying to view the files if thumbnails are enabled.
Due to the corrupt factor being only the thumbnails, it is possible to work around this by altering the viewing properties for the file from the Camera01 file properties gui accessed via the right click menu.
Sorry no solution for phone app users, however Mac users might be able to try a similar trick.
I have no affiliation with Insta360 apart from being an unhappy owner of a One R with a fogging module. The above issue is likely related to the latest firmwares ( At time of this release I am using v1.1.30 ).
Update: Can confirm that this will work on the file whilst still on the card. However, you will still have to set any folder you transfer the files into to display for documents or Windows Explorer will still crash. Also yea this has happened three times now.

@@macslife Man, you saved the day! I keep video files on my computer in a video folder with sub folders for each camera, then sub folders for date and location of each shoot. I had a sub folder labeled 'test' in my Insta360 folder and somehow got one of the corrupted files in it. That prevented me from accessing anything in the Insta360 folder. I remembered your video, watched it again, and changed the properties of the Insta360 folder. That allowed me to at least see the sub folders. When I clicked to delete the 'test' folder however, everything shut down again. But - I was at least able to go back and copy my good folders under Insta360 to another location, then delete the entire old Insta360 folder and the corrupted file. What a PITA! It hasn't happened much, but seems like only when I record video with different resolutions or frame rates. I got the 1 inch mod yesterday and had been using the 4k mod earlier in the day. I added files with the 1 inch mod to the same card, then went in to view - crashed. I didn't do your trick, but right clicked on the DCIM folder on the card, and sent the folder to a thumb drive. From there I was able to view the files with the Insta Studio software and transfer them to that 'test' folder. Today I was out testing the 1 inch with 24p and 30p and the card crashed. It's not the card because I've recorded successfully on it with both the 360 and 4k mods. I later recorded just 30p with no crashing, so basically I don't know wtf is going on.

Is this still a problem???? Come on Insta360! Sorry Toms, I don't have experience with Mac bud but id wager its a similar process. Find the file settings from the mac equivalent of the Windows explorer side bar and make the file display its content without thumbnails. Good luck! Can you please let me know if that works too and i will add it to the description.

That is not good news. Guess you have yourself a new issue there. Honestly blown away there are still these kinds of issues. I stopped using my One R for important work a while ago. Too many issues with it.

@@macslife yeah after many failed attempts i finally contacted insta 360 support team and they chatted with me ensuring the camera is fine, but still the issue lasted. Later the told me to send it back to them which is in Hongkong. Well i live in India. I'm pretty satisfied with their services.
