Thanks! This is actually a really basic test. I need to do more soon, it’s a fun camera. Trying to figure out how to get the best from it. I like the actual 360 VR stuff, but I find myself reframing and rendering different “flat” (I guess) conventional shots from the 360 source. I especially like making these really wide aspect panoramas. The source resolution needs to be higher, which is there with the higher end professional cameras, but these little consumer level cameras are improving with every generation.

how did you come with this almost 360 kind of frame where almost all part are sharp?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It's actually just about 180 degrees I think, or less. It's been a long time since I did this one, so hard for me to remember. I rendered the 360 video files from the Insta360 One X camera to equirectangular video files in the Insta360 Studio desktop software. Then I used Fusion in DaVinci Resolve to create a composite of two identical video clips, aligned at the edge so they are seamless. Then I made a crop of a smaller section out of the composite for the exact framing I wanted. It was a bit of a process, but it worked in the end.

Hi, did you use DaVinci or 3dlut creator? And main question- what log profile did you use when convert to rec 709? I didn’t find insta log) or you just matched it with color checker?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No lut. I used DaVinci Resolve and just color corrected manually to Rec.709 using the color checker and the scopes in Resolve.

Thanks for video!!! Is the HDR mode better than LOG color grading?
@RichLackey

That’s an excellent question! I don’t know because I haven’t tested the difference. It would be a good test though.

The purpuose of Log is to underexpose/ettr/expose for highlights, in this mode -1EV should be propobly good setting.

There is a way to correct the colors using the app? Because saturation and beautiful setting are not doing a good job =\
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t know of any tools to color correct properly in the app, I think most average users don’t really bother at all. For those who want serious color correction, it’s going to be in professional desktop software.

Wow what a difference nice! Does the original video quality look sharper then what we see right here on your youtube video?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 5 жыл бұрын
The original from the camera looks about the same sharpness. The camera records a full 360 degree field of view at 5.7K resolution. This is a bit less than a 180 degree section out of the original 360 scaled down to full HD.

Ok looks ok but it could look better.. :) Full 360 with 4k and 60fps would be crazy! And what about pictures? Do they also have the same quality as this video right here? Thanks
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it could be better. I’d like to test the Insta360 Pro at some point. 8K, better dynamic range but out of my price level.

Just checked it out looks great its also out of my price level. And the pictures from the Insta 360 one x look the same as the footage we see in this video here?
@RichLackey

Photo resolution is 6080 x 3040 so should be pretty good depending on how you want to use it.

hey is it better to film with log turned on? Have you compared with and without and how the end result is? Have you had problems with banding in the colors for example in the sky?
@RichLackey
@RichLackey 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Svend, that's an excellent question. In this test I didn't have banding issues in log, but it can easily happen with 8-bit footage. I haven't compared grading log vs non log yet. That's a good idea to do this though, I will add this to my list of things to test. I should be able to shoot again in the coming few weeks. I'll post something here for sure.

The log mode video color corrects better than I thought it would. Are you shooting log with your Insta360 One X? I’d be interested to know how you are color grading your footage.

@@RichLackey its in the mail i haven't got it yet just looking at new videos and how it works with all the modes i'd try using a lut i you have adobe
@RichLackey

That’s a good idea. I haven’t looked for any correction luts for it yet. I did this manually, using the X-Rite chart for reference but I actually think a simple lut could work just fine.
