I'll definitely post an update if I find a solution. I'm thinking the next step needs to be the removable glass lens and to just wipe it down intermittently. Possibly some kind of demisting spray might work, but probably not. It's also a bit frustrating that these items don't work in harmony with each other. So, with the removable lens I can't use the shoe mount or the normal rubber lens cover. 😵‍💫

@ExploitPublic ahh..sorry you didn't see my video before buying. I would say that I'm still happy I have the glass lens for the protection side of things, but the fogging is really frustrating. From what I gather the removable glass lens also has this excessive stitch line issue that the removable plastic lens has. I'm disappointed that I bought 2x sticky lenses and the removable plastic lens, because the plastic scratches so easily and the light distortion is significant. The plastic lenses downgrade the footage much more than the glass lens. So, if protection is a concern, the glass lens at least is better than the plastic lens. If only we could easily remove the original lenses...

@motogirlthailand 7 ай бұрын
Hi. From research, the Premium lens guard seems to have the same stitch line issue that the plastic lens guard has, so I decided not to buy it. There are also some comments from others on this video stating the same, sadly. The only reason I would buy the premium lens guard is if I was using the underwater case and needed to easily switch between the two for different situations. Currently the best option seems to be the glass sticky lens. I've also been using a fogging spray and so far that seems to be working. However, Rainy Season is over, so I'm not in very foggy situations at the moment.

@@motogirlthailand The other option is to apply the guards in a room with very dry air so there is zero moisture in between the lenses. Also, keeping the device’s temperature the same outside. The last option is trying some anti-fog liquid.
@motogirlthailand
@motogirlthailand 9 ай бұрын
Thanks Brad. Good tips and the anti-fog liquid is a great suggestion. I will give that a shot and see how it goes. Later on I plan to buy the removable glass lens to try it out, (also because I would like to be able to use my underwater case at some point, which unfortunately doesn't work with the sticky lenses). I will put together an update video comparing both the glass sticky lens and the removable glass lens, and update if the anti-fog liquid does the trick or not, too. I love riding into mountains and during the early morning to beat the heat, so there is always some precipitation or moisture. It will be sad if footage is constantly affected on my rides, and I really would prefer not to keep stopping to check. What I like about action cameras is that you can just press record and enjoy the ride, forgetting about the camera for a while. It's been a bit frustrating to realise that my front footage is consistently foggy. Love the camera and the large screen is just fantastic, but this side of things is a bit frustrating and I don't trust myself enough to use the camera without any protective lens (I am notoriously bad at keeping my stuff from getting damaged in some way). Sorry for a wall of text. Thanks for the anti-fog tip and I will be sure to mention you in the update video later.

Just throwing this idea out there...I also wrote insta360 about this. Hoping someone smarter than me can figure out the details and let the rest of know how they did it or sell it. How about making a lens film that would be shaped like a contact lens that can be "stuck" to the lens. Like a screen protector for a cell phone, but with a concave surface where it adheres to the lens. This would remove the fogging issue since there is no air between the film and the lens. And when they get scratched they can be removed and replaced.
@motogirlthailand
@motogirlthailand 6 ай бұрын
Hmm...i would be concerned that if the camera is dropped, the original lens would still get chipped. The lens guard leaves a gap, so less chance of that happening imo. I *think* I found a reasonable solution to the lens fogging. I just finished the edit a few hours ago. It's here, if helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5K2nXl8m96niacsi=ajAQV2mIalhEgaNn

Hi. Yes. I saw it and did consider it. However, people have said it adds quite a bit more weight to the camera, which is worrying if using with a unipod/selfie stick. @19ab59
@19ab59 5 ай бұрын
Hi MotoGirl, well the reason for considering a metal cage is because my previous X2 broke at the bottom where the tripod mount is located. A metal cage has it's own tripod mount so that's my reason. It does add more weight that's true but don't want this to happen again. I did consider buying the X3 but for €180 less I bought a X2 again. I'll buy the sticky less guards because the premium don't go with a metal cage. As long as Inst360 doesn't come with a model with changeable lenses will have to deal with this problem I'm afraid. @@motogirlthailand

I think what matters most is how much vapor is inside the lens guard so you need to install it in a very dry place.
@motogirlthailand
@motogirlthailand 9 ай бұрын
I imagine, like me, that most people apply these lenses very carefully, in dry environments. Ensuring that the lens is sealed. The fogging ONLY happens when they are exposed to moisture in the air AFTER being carefully placed on and sealed, unfortunately. If only it was just a case of vapour in the lens guard during install, because that would be easy to rectify. Sadly, that isn't the case. Thank you for your suggestion, though! 🙏😊

To the author: it was necessary to paste the protection on the lenses in dry and cold air so that condensation did not occur between the lenses and the protection. It is hot and humid in Thailand: if you put on protection during the day, then overnight, by morning, the air under the protection cools down and can give dew.

@@motogirlthailand It's easier for you, you don't have negative temperatures, so even installing protection at +30 degrees C will not lead to fog at +15 (probably). @user-kw4lm3nr3h the point of me creating the fog solution video was because I was experiencing fog. In mountains such as Doi Inthanon it can reach temperatures around -5 C in Thailand. Temperatures can fluctuate from humid to dry, wet to dry, dusty and so forth, all in the space of a day's ride. Indeed, I'm not dealing with -20 C, so I do not have direct experience of using the 360 in those much lower temperatures. However, I am originally from Scotland and I do personally know people who have found my tip useful in those lower temperatures. Very sorry if doesn't work for you, though. Hi. Currently the only acceptable option imo is the premium lens guard (not the removable one - which gives too much of a stitch line). To help with fogging I've been using a defog spray (for specticals and moto visors). It seems to help reduce the fogging. Rainy Season has ended here in Thailand now and its Cool Season, so it's hard to test the fogging currently. I'll be doing some early morning mountain rides and maybe one or two mountains will have the right conditions to see if the defogging spray is succeeding. Currently, footage is looking OK for me with the premium lenses.

Apologies for a late reply. Personally I prefer the glass premium lens.

That looks really great. I wonder what the stitch line is like and if it's possible to get here in Thailand without paying excessive import tax. Do you use this case? If, so, is it performing well? Thanks, I'll look into it. I've never seen this case before.

Actually..I'm seeing a comment that the stitch line is pronounced and that heat displacement isn't so good :( ahh ..and the lenses aren't glass, that's a deal breaker for me, sadly. Ty though

do not buy premium guard. it will fog up too, really bad. I have installed it on my x2

Sorry about your experience. The premium glass guard has been pretty good for me, so far. All of the lenses tend to fog, but did find a fog solution, though: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5K2nXl8m96niacsi=WW0NOV0j-CvfS9eS

The x4 absolutely must have easy user replaceable lenses. This current design is old and bad.

Designing the unit the way they did is a really poor manufacturing choice. It could have very easily been removable and still water resistant. They are really just looking to maximize their repair profits. A big finger to the customers.

Agree. It makes zero sense! Especially as many have reported that its not particularly waterproof either. I'd rather buy a waterproof protector and use it only when needed and then use the camera without a lens guard, if removable lenses were available.

You can’t remove the lens because they don’t have an idea how to build one, every 360 cam either.
